*Sigh* - scared I overpaid.

I think the most important thing here is you seem happy with what you saw and are fully content with your purchase! It's far better then before when you were stuck with a mediocre stone and over paying

Well, it is an improvement over the last one, and if it made you say wow, that is a good thing.

HI:

Is this bait and switch?

cheers--Sharon

At least it is a GIA stone, DS. That means a lot.

Sooo happy that you found a stone you are happy with. This stone is definitely an improvement over the last in ti's specs- color- clarity- and cut- and it's GIA certified.

I am so glad you found something that makes you say wow- and that you could truly see the difference in this stone against the one you had prior.

Yes, it is better. I just wasted time and energy posting a cheat-sheet to make the replacement shopping easier. That's what  was for.

DS, if you have any asscher cheat sheets feel free to post for me and I will adhere to it! I am so getting myself an asscher! :naughty:

DS: Actually I was so pleased when I saw you posted that cheat sheet -- I'd been wanting to make one up and I just cut, pasted and saved yours on my desktop. Oh and no worries, I *will* use it! Thank you!

How exciting! :appl: I love asschers! My cheat sheet for asschers is to just call Good Old Gold and tell them your preferences for price, size, color, etc. and let them call in a few! Jon knows what a good asscher is!

I'm going to save your cheat sheet, DS! I'll definitely refer back to it. My fall back cheat sheet is totally just to get in touch with GOG, too! I can't wait for my upgrade. :naughty:

To the OP, I'm glad you got a diamond that you feel better about, and we'd love to see pictures when you have them!

Sorry DS lol, I did appreciate the help though. And I did actually use your advice to an extent - I made sure I got a stone that was at least close to the numbers you posted. Most of all, while I couldn't afford an "excellent" cut GIA stone, I picked the "very good" over the "good" even though it meant a big price jump. That was thanks to your advice.

Here is the GIA #: 15674564

well I think it is an improvement but it seems like you could have done much better. But if you are happy then that is all that matters!

:( how so?

this one does not look GREAT from the numbers. it does look better though. If you have an opportunity I would go back and ask to see some of the excellent cut Js that were suggested in this thread (I believe there was one GIA Ex and one GIA VG that scored well on HCA). Compare them to this one in different lighting conditions (not just the sparkly jewelry store lights that make everything look sparkly) and see what you think. The best thing to do is go with what your eyes prefer but you should make sure your eyes have seen all of the options :)

But really, we are being spoil sports. No poster owes us to follow our suggestions to the letter, much as I would like them to :rodent: . I do think the OP improved his choice. Not as much as we might have liked to see, but the stone he has now is worlds better than the one he started with. A good outcome overall.

No, no one has any obligation to follow our advice as well meaning as it is. It is very sad when people come here after purchasing a poor stone and cannot return or exchange. But in this case, since an exchange was at least possible, I had the hope that the OP would embrace the info and go for excellent cut on the second try. I just can't recommend very good cut when excellent is already such a broad category. But certainly, going from a bad stone to a decent one is better than nothing!

themarked, I do hope you will come back and post pictures of the ring! I am glad you were able to exchange to something you are happy with because at the end of the day, that's what really matters :))

I will say "ditto" to that, and I will add that I am sure your girlfriend will be so thrilled with the proposal and adore whatever ring you give her!

Thanks, I definitely will post pictures as soon as I get some good ones (with a good camera). Pics from my iPhone won't do it justice ;)
I should be able to post some pics by the weekend.

And again, while I didn't follow everyon'e advice word for word, I definitely used the advice in picking the diamond. Sure, maybe I could have done better, but when I saw this diamond I knew it was the one - a different feeling from the last one. And the reason I saw it was because of some of the advice here. I saw another one that I liked, and would have purchased - it was a GIA stone (I asked to only see GIA this time), SI2, H colour, good cut. I wanted at least a very good cut because of the advice I received here. Excellent would have been nice, but after I saw the diamond they brought out when I requested a better cut, I was thrilled (not so thrilled to shell out additional $$ though haha).

If the OP is happy with his stone and loves it, that's all that matters! We can't make anyone buy something.

Themarked, congrats on your purchase! You sound thrilled! Please post pics of your new diamond when you can!!

themarked, I am sooo glad you were able to upgrade from the first stone. I'm not a pro, but even I could see, that first stone was pretty bad. Your girlfriend will be thrilled with her new ring. 1.01 is a wonderful size. (It would look great with a thin band, so that the stone will pop, too much metal overpowers the stone, to me) I think you did well. You got the best you could, with the budget at hand. Congrats on your purchase. I can't wait to see photos!

So, I know it's been a while and I promised photos a long time ago, but I simply was unable to get my hands on a GOOD camera. So, here are pics with a crappy camera lol. Thanks again for all your advice and help. She said yes and loves the ring :) - had to get it sized down to a 4.75, which is still too big, but any smaller and it doesn't pass her knuckle. Any advice? lol

congratulations! you could get sizing beads added to the ring.

also it looks like the diamond may be set a little high? but if that's how she likes to wear it then no problem :)

I'm so happy for you that you exchanged your stone for that one and that you feel better. I was proposed to with a half carat uncertified G/SI1/fine cut diamond, so you should not feel badly. We're still happily married after 10+ years.
