Hi everyone, :wavey: I am really enjoying this thread. I fear I am officially hooked on this stone! I have been eyeing up cabochon stones like this at around £3000! :eek2:

images.jpeg-11.jpg

Then went onto Etsy and searched for a more affordable option and found this!

Call it an early mothers day present. :mrgreen2:The spessartite measures 12x10mm and it is set in silver with 18ct gold accents. What does everyone think of cabochon spessartites?

I love a cabochon spessartite!

Thank you!
I should have mentioned to @T L that I also purchased an orangy-pink spinel at the same time, so there’s a possibility I received a discount on the spess due to also purchasing the spinel. I didn’t ask though, so I’m not certain about that.
Here’s the spess in different lighting than above looking a bit more yellow-orange, along with my new spinel :))

Thank you :)). I need to stop buying stones so I can afford to set the ones I already have!

What a beautiful ring! The color of your spess is so stunning!
I know it must look even better IRL because, you are right, they are hard to photograph.

Where did upyou buy the solitaire? I love it!

Here is my new spess ring with pink sapphires. Made to also wear as an echo to my spess and pink spinel bracelet. It is around 4.5 carats, Portuguese cut, Nambian, very clean and a pure Sunkist orange color. I’ve waited many years to get a spess ring, so I’m delighted!

Oops, I keep mentioning Nambian as the source when I mean to say Nigerian! Also, looking it up, carat weight is 4.25!

This spessartine, and the piece of rough beside it, are irreplaceable. They came from the Little 3 mine in Ramona, CA. Not big, just a carat, but internally flawless and the best orange. DSCN0168.JPG

Really lovely!

I’m not sure how many folks here follow rough dealers, but lately there seems to be fantastic colors popping up lately, reported to be from Tanzania. Nothing huge, maybe 4-6 ct rough, and all sugery.

I havent seen really nice spess rough for a while, though maybe I just don’t travel in the right circles.

Any idea where this came from all of a sudden?

I was fomo’ing so I decided I needed a piece. Like most everyone else, it’s freaking impossible to photograph accuracy. IRL its a dead ringer for a ripe navel orange, and is much brighter and more saturated than the camera wants to show.

@chroman It's a gorgeous colour. Coincidentally I have just ordered a few pieces of rough (green mali garnet, aircon and sunstone). Bit of a risk I know but I'd love to get them custom cut. I'd love a decent piece of spessartite! :kiss2:

My spess from the Little Three mine.

What are the green stones? They complement your spess so well, and the color combination just looks fantastic!

Thansk @voce @T L and @Seaglow ! It's one of my favorite color combinations.

The green stones are mint garnets

It was one of my first from scratch design collaborations with Yvonne. I had the idea of using the mint garnets as leaves and she added the pink which really brings it all together imo.

I‘ve always admired your candy rings!

Thank you! I love the bright orange color of a nice spessartite garnet (so thank you all for sharing yours). However, orange does not go well with my skin tone, so I opted to surround it with other colors.

Here’s mine. I bought it from a PSer a few years ago and I still haven’t figured out how to reset it (except that I need a halo). :halo:

I love the stone and setting as is..but am curious to see what it would look like with your Tsavorite melee. I can picture a tsav/spess floral/scalloped halo .

I’ll have to get some pics. :Up_to_something:
Unfortunately, I can’t wear it as is. For one...the ring is a couple sizes too large. For another, I’m positive I’ll knock the spess against stuff in a solitaire setting. I would hate to do that to such a lovely stone.

Use white diamonds AND pink sapphires in the halo, pretty please!

I look forward to adding a proper spessartite garnet to my collection one day but I took interest in the gorgeous gem when I did some research to work out that the orange crystal inside my oval diamond is most likely a spessartite :D
