Show us your David Klass bling!

What did you do with this original setting? I love it.

I am seeing so many settings like this now, that perhaps it would have grown on me. It was way too small anyway. I gave it to David. He always gives me credit for any setting I part with. I have no idea if he kept it as is or not. I'm sure he'd be happy to discuss it with you.

Thank you @Dreamer_D for responding.I was so hoping you would! I believe Jocelyn called it a transitional cut. I agree they are a bit chaotic. I think she has a beautiful cut too, thank you. I was disappointed about the clarity and cut at first. I am so happy I got over it and can enjoy the diamond for how she looks and not the certificate. I did really wonder if I would be able to get over the mind clean thing. I surprised myself that I did to be honest! I felt like it was a fair price with what I was told she was approximately. I feel since she faces up like a 3ct and the stone is so beautiful, I did pay a fair price. That is high praise coming from you- glorious is quite a word for her, thank you!

I am going to have to go back and look at what an American Cut is. I believe you and Inked discussed it before. I do have a couple of photos where the arrows are more crisp. I just always feel like those aren't the really pretty pictures.

The ring is SO lovely, @peppermintpatty! I remember Jocelyn's posting - loved that antique setting, but this new setting really brings out something special in your stone.

Despite the lower color and clarity, it was a jump on the carat weight tho putting you over the 2.5ct mark. That alone is a win! :kiss2:

Thank you so much @K9 for your kind words! I love this setting! It sits low, it’s comfortable, I adore the fluted halo. David chose the perfect size and color for the sidestones and I’m so happy he said all 18k yellow gold!

I agree, even with the change in clarity and color, it faces up like a 3 carat and the stone so special to me. I find myself wearing her often and that says a lot!!! Thanks!

@Dreamer_D Of course! I purchased the diamond from Gilded Lane, it was set. i didn't care for the setting so I sent the ring to David and for the first time ever asked him to send it to GIA to get the diamond certified first. Joycelyn had estimated the diamond as an OP and SI1.
It came back as S-T and I1. I'm not going to lie, at first I was bummed. Especially about the clarity. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. I do want to say, I don't think Jocelyn was being dishonest. I do think for myself I had to realize that this is a bling slinger's best guess and that if you purchase a diamond without a cert., you are taking a chance.

Once I had the ring in hand, I have never looked back. I will say this, in the other setting, also gold, it had warmth. I did not see any yellow. When I got it I was completely blown away by it. It looks like a lemon drop! It has the fluted halo, which I chose because I liked it, not to enhance any color since I didn't see yellow. There is no cup though.

I have seen in this diamond the most stunning, beautiful facet pattern. I happened to look down at my hand while I was at a light, I have never had a diamond light up like she does. Took my breath away!!!! Such big chunky bright colors all across the diamond. Lit up like it was Christmas!

It has strong blue fluorescent. Something Jocelyn said would help offset the OP color. I was surprised that with that it would still look so yellow!

Table is 60%
Depth is 53.4
Are those number's crazy?! I honestly have never seen I diamond with those numbers!!!

It doesn't have the much desired high crown.

Anything else Dreamer? Just let me know:)

Well I just LOVE the faceting!!! It looks GORGEOUS! I keep getting bitten with the uncertified diamonds, i think maybe they know deep down it wil come back a different color or clarity and thats WHY they dont certify them and why the price is amazing!! I will HAPPILY take the bargain great price and sacrifice stats, as long as i love it!! I got over my disappointments pretty quickly on mine, too!!

Did you post about yours somewhere?

Yes seller routinely exaggerate stats on stones without reports.

well i have several, LOL. My 3 stone center for one (dimensions were way off, carat correct but dimensions wrong), my cluster center (color way off) , one I havent posted about yet (clarity way off), and then there's the occasional 'win', which i consider my chameleon diamond, that was uncertified sold as S-T, wound up being fancy brown yellow and way bigger than they said (so everything was off). Its being fedexed to me today after David fixed up the setting for me so i hope to have it back tomorrow & I'll do a thread on it

These people are experts so one can only assume these misreadings are on purpose, or at least, willingly ignorant.

Agreed. I think they KNOW it will come back exactly as it does... BUT they can give an amazing price because it doesn't *look* like that to the eye so they state the stats as it looks , not as it would actually be. And GOOD, because we get deals on the diamonds then... you just have to go in knowing, "I would not get this price if it really was...." whatever, a L VS2, i am getting this price because it's actually o/p but faces up super white like an L, or has a major inclusion but its off to the side or ...whatever

I am totally fine with it because the prices are way lower that way!!

Are they lower than what the actual stats are though? And would they sell as fast if correctly advertised? I’m thinking “no” to both as otherwise sellers would not do it and risk the blow-back.

I too will take the bargain price! I do love mine! Yes, when they are beautiful the disappointment fades fast.

I truly don’t think Jocelyn was trying to over grade the diamond. Maybe I’m naive, but I’ve bought several pieces from her, I’d much prefer to think the good! I definitely don’t want to do harm to her good name. I felt it was important to be transparent. In case someone like me purchased an uncertified stone, they either be aware this can and does happen. Also what is the seller’s stance if it comes back 2 or more grades off?

I’m not saying I wasn’t upset and disappointed at first, I was. I’m not sure if I would go uncertified again. I think for me, I have come to the realization that a bling slinger is not a gemologist, and if I want a different standard I’ll need to purchase from a different person.

That’s just me though!

It’s perfectly normal to be disappointed. I think it just showed you that the certificate is an important part of the journey for you. I’m glad it worked out tho because the final ring is stunning! @peppermintpatty

You bring up another good point tho - from a buyer’s perspective, when you buy an uncertified stone, you are buying into someone's opinion of that stone. I always advise my friends/family/etc that if they need a stone’s description to match a report, buying an uncertified stone may not be for them. Neither is wrong - everyone is different.

I have certified a few stones myself recently. By the time I have the stone unmounted, ship the stone, add the services I want, have the stone returned to me - it’s anywhere between $300-$500 for the cert. That starts to add up! Depending on the stone, I wouldn’t mind skipping that to have the savings up front. More money for a setting.

Drawing conclusions about the intent of a seller I have not personally dealt with seems a bit uncool, so I won’t, but since I have paid the GIA bill recently, I can certainly understand why a seller may not be certifying all of the stones they sell - and likely trusting the opinions of their own dealers from which the items were acquired. The juice may not be worth the squeeze if their margins are alright tight.

Thank you, I am happy you like it :) I think a certificate is important to me. I also think there are times, like with the stone we are speaking of, that I want it bad
enough to throw the dice and see what happens. To be honest, I did think hard about getting it certified. Do I wish I hadn't, kind of. On the other hand, It will give me more pause next time I see an uncertified stone.

I think that is a fair and accurate assessment. If you need them to match, probably best stick with certified. No, we are definitely all different. You just have to do what works best for you.

So is your reasoning for doing the certifications that you have to have the cert? If you don't mind me asking? That adds up to a pretty penny!

I think the one thing I don't particularly care for it when they say, I'm not certifying it to pass those savings along to the buyer...

I do wish they would say if they are wrong about it what their policy is. Or is that unreasonable? I never thought about the trusting the opinions of their own dealers. I have pretty much only bought from Jocelyn. She says things like, I have louped it and it has xyz, but I'll be safe and say it's an SI2. Or she might compare it to a different similar colored diamond to show the colors are close. It's eye clean. It has a crystal but it gets lost in the facets and doesn't take away from the diamond. The inclusions are primarily by the girdle.

I think it does come down to trust with whom it is you're purchasing and how well you are able to discern what exactly all of that means when buying. The other difficult part is often times you have to be fast or you're not going to get it.

I see them doing it if the margins are tight. I am probably naive and hope they do make a decent profit :) I feel like so many of them have so much that is beautiful, that is hard to find. I honestly have no idea.

I think we are all just trying to make a living and be able to buy our bling ;)

I don't mind at all! The stones I sent in this last year were being set/re-set and I decided due to their size that I should spring for the cert in the event I decide to sell later - then I know exactly what I have and there is no question since it would likely end up on ebay to sell. For the most part, when I buy, I have a handful of people that I would trust buying an uncertified stone from - the rest I would want the cert, because of lab diamonds being so prevalent. That's just me tho.

I don't know what any seller's policy is on incorrect assessments - I have always just been under the impression that their statement of an item is just an educated guess and if they're wrong, they're wrong and that's my problem. Heck - the stone I sent in last year was sold to me as an I and it came back an L! Much like yours, lower in color, but they were wrong on the carat weight and it was more than they said. But I bought it as a ring a few years prior so it's not like I had any recourse. Even still, I also love the stone so much I don't care - it is a fireball and I got it for a really nice price so I still win in my mind.

But you're right - we're all just out here looking for bling deals. :lol-2:

Speaking of my L stone - this seems like a good time to show off how I set it since DK did it for me last month!

3 stone set in Platinum. 1.3ct (7mm) L center with 5mm G and J side stones. I'm not sure many people would have mixed such high and low colors, but I can't tell the difference with my old lady eyes so I went for it. :kiss2:

Not only can I not tell the difference, I can scarcely stop oggling the puffy crown on the center stone!!! When a stone looks like yours, who needs a cert! I hear you with regard to wanting to know what you have incase you decide to sell.

I know never say never, but I can't see me selling mine and most certainly can't imagine you selling yours!!!

What I beautiful ring!!!!!

If I buy an uncerted stone, I never send it off for certification. I just don't care enough, if I like the stone when I look at it. But I do examine the photos pretty closely, mainly for clarity as I want it to be eye clean, but also for color. I don't mind warmth at all, but I do want to have a fairly good idea of what I'm getting there.

Thanks @vitona526 and @peppermintpatty !

I’m thrilled with how it turned out. It iis really very comfortable and I have been wearing it a lot.

Can’t imagine I would be compelled to sell it - but never say never. Something else may come along that catches my eye. ;)2
