Here's a ring I've had for ages but only recently taken to wearing. It was bought at the Pearl Factory once-kiosk (I think they may have a full store front now) on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. It's a total tourist trap, but I remember thinking it was way cool when my dad treated me to this. I think I was 14 or so?

Anyway, for $15, you got to open an "oyster" with a pearl inside. They're Akoyas, mostly small and low-quality, and they make their money trying to hustle you into buying expensive settings. :lol-2:

My pearl was set into an inexpensive 14k YG bypass style setting, and done so poorly: they put the drill hole in the middle of some rippling on the nacre (so that's mostly hidden), but there's a bit of extra glue along the bottom of the pearl. For all that, the ring is nostalgic for me, and I've been wearing it quite a bit recently as I've developed a fondness for yellow gold. :D

@Aditya, you can check ebay or Etsy to know the approximate worth of your mabes. Usually individual mabe like that isn't expensive.

Nacrelover, sorry for digging out this old post, but I am super curious about where to get such small SoC pearls. I hear the big ones are so very rare but I still cannot find the small ones anywhere, it seems in Douglas' web shop only 10mm+ ones are listed...

Breaking out some of my pearls today as it has been a long time since I wore any pearls. I am feeling in a pearl mood and am going to wear my metallics today. Choker length at 15 inches. It's the perfect necklace for this cold March day as it brightens up my mood.

Close up to better see the colors.

Dejay, I don’t think those are sea of Cortez pearls. I suspect they are dyed Chinese freshwater pearls based on the shape and color. But you could contact Douglas McLaurin at Sea of Cortez pearls for an expert opinion (https://mexican-pearls.myshopify.com).

It looks silver to me, but there are test kits that can tell you whether something is gold or not. Or you can have a jeweler look at it. If they are dyed Chinese pearls like I suspect, they would be relatively modern and quite inexpensive, and would be unlikely to have a gold clasp put on them.

New 8.4mm silver green tahitian studs from pearlzaustralia on etsy arrived this week. Attempted to get ear shots in the sun. Failed miserably. Very happy with them

White and dyed Chinese freshwater pearls. You can tell by the colors and the egg shape. These would be modern and relatively inexpensive.

Dejay,
Sea of Cortez pearls fluoresce red when you shine a UV light (a.k.a. "black light") on them. If you have a UV light you can test for yourself. See Nacrelover's post #991 for a photo that shows this effect.
But I agree with cmd2014 that the pearls you posted all look like cultured Chinese freshwater pearls.

My first strand of pearls (how exciting!) 8-8.5 mm, 16 inch, natural white (not bleached) with gold overtone. A lot of orient on these, hard to photograph.
