I asked the mods about this ages and ages ago and got the thumbs-up (these things were not intended to fool anybody - Deco ladies loved the ostentatious possibilities they opened up, and it wasn't even a wink-and-a-nod, just a "where'd you get THAT?!?"). Of course, I also promptly malingered and didn't start the thread. Why now, almost two years later?

I FINALLY GOT MY RIVIERE YOU GUYS I AM SO EXCITED.

But as it's still en route from England ... I need something to tide me over. I'll show you mine if you show me yours? ;))

And here are close-ups of a few of my favorite pieces ....

- a Georgian black-dot paste buckle with blue enameling that I picked up in Goteburg: it dates to the 18th century, and somewhere along the way, somebody converted it to a brooch. They called it "black dot paste" because they literally painted a black dot on the culet to mimic kozibe!

- a Victorian starburst brooch that was made in the 1890s in England, according to the hallmarks: I found it in an antique store in Copenhagen (and this illustrates why I love antique jewelry so much - just imagine how it got there and what it saw along the way!)

- Half of a peacock glass buckle, very Art Nouveau or possibly Deco with that Egyptian Revival influence, found at Picadilly Market in London (I'm still sad it was only half, and look for the other hand with half an eye everywhere I go)

- and a Deco dress clip with "sapphire" cabs, just the thing for dressing up a boring work blouse.

Okay, your turn!

What neat pieces Circe! I have a couple of brooches from my great grandmother (not in the best of shape)...I'll try to get some photos of them one of these days. I hope that Grace from JBEG sees this post. She and Erica brought some of the most amazing paste earrings to the GTG in Vegas over the summer. They were huge and at first, I didn't realize that they were paste and almost had a heart attack when I saw one of the pairs in Grace's ears!

Hard to believe they aren't diamonds. Your pieces are exquisite. I know I should know, but what is paste composed of again? I have a very old tea pot (huge too) that is made of paste, which is all I know about it.

I adore your dress clip! It is fabulous! Where ever did you find it?

I'm always admiring paste, but I don't think I own any. I'd really like to find a brooch, but the perfect one at the perfect price hasn't crossed my path yet.

Oooh great thread! I adore this sort of stuff & it's more in my price range too. I have mainly Mazer Bros things - 2 necklaces & matching earrings for the more elaborate one. I've worn them to a lot of military balls where you just need something fancy but classy too. Somehow vintage paste just looks much nicer than modern CZ stuff to me...

P.S. Sorry about massive iPhone pics!

I like it. Lovely aqua colour.

I got a “paste” and faux jade pin from my husband for our wedding anniversary this year. I adore it.

Oh love the pretty color of those stones, like the perfect ocean!

I have a few paste pieces, these earrings, which is funny because I don’t have pierced ears. Also a pin, I’ve been tempted to use that stone for a ring I like it so much!

Ohhh pink!! :kiss2: And these smooth plump close-backs are just so satisfying to look at.

Gorgeous classic sparklies! Need to put shades on. :cool2: I can see why you got the earrings, the old style basket setting is unbeatable.

I have a few vintage paste pieces that I haven’t pulled apart of the years… like these earrings my grandmother gave me to wear to my yr 10 formal….. E811EBD5-0019-47CB-BFAC-8A754BD6D94C.jpeg

Buy I also have something new and completely over the top for something different (I actually just have this piece to my sister because she is a redhead and it looks spectacular on her)…
It’s made by a designer in London who does one off couture designer pieces….. who’s name is escaping me at the moment. The pics don’t do justice to the huge centre blue/green stone.
