I love pearls but golden South Sea pearls are my weakness! My strand is from PearlParadise and is 9.2-12 mm, round, AA+/AAA, with almost no blemishing, high luster, 24 karat gold color (color and luster are washed out in the photo).

Thanks @MakingTheGrade for tagging me. I seldom wear my GSS so it’s been hard to find pics but I found some in my old thread so here I am =)2

pics from when I got the pearls back in 2015 - mine are the 2 in the middle:

GSSP strand from Eiko - 11.1-14.8 mm off-round with strong pink n green overtones. 35 pearls/28.1mom. The luster is above average. Not mirror-like like some Tahitians but better luster than most strands. I recall I got this strand mainly due to the deeper color and rare overtones, both pink and green which I love.

I think they’re lovely! I appreciate pearls with some character! My blue akoyas are baroque and weird but the overtones are gorgeous.

Haha if you really never wear them and want to rehome them I’m sure they’d get adopted by a PSer happily!

@icy_jade i think I have similar coloration as you and I also think GSS strands look washed out on me. My solution has been to mix it in as an accent pearl. So maybe you’re can find new life in some mixed pearl strands? They really are gorgeous 802152

The method I found last time was to wear a white top with a bit of gold accent... something like these:

And then the white top brightens up my complexion and it helps to balance the gold. Maybe I need to go shopping for a new top! =)2

Thanks @icy_jade I have been looking at all the old threads. The really dark GSS are just lovely. The thing that I particularly like is that they seem to go really well with dark clothing and “pop”. Whereas I find that my multicolour Tahitians and purple freshwaters dont look great against dark clothing. The Tahitians grey out - they look best with white and other light colours.

That’s interesting as most of my Tahitians works well with black (and most of my wardrobe is black)? The strand I have problem with is my “wave” strand due to it’s lighter, autumn colors.

Do your Tahitians have dark grey body color?

@icyjade I don’t think so. Here is a photo of them against a white background. A279C7A9-9B1A-49FF-B289-21644DB0B132.jpeg

Ok maybe cos I don’t wear white often but I was curious enough to throw some strands on a black cardi to have a look at how it looks and:

16F1E003-4ABD-41CA-9911-056FAD073F8F.jpeg
Top: various strong peacocks
Bottom left: harvest strand
Bottom right: multi-color graduated strand

I don’t think the pics accurately show what I see irl so some thoughts:
- best looking strand against black: harvest strand, probably thanks to the strong contrast between the light and dark Tahitians and good luster
- 2nd: peacock strands, thanks to their luster and strong overtones. Irl can see the changing overtones so some pearls for example looks reddish etc, and changes with movement (I remember I do enjoy wearing these quite a lot)
- 3rd: no surprise, as this strand has fairly average luster. But also as it has most of the Tahitian colors, I could tell which colors don’t perform as well against black and imo that would be blues and purples.

My dear enablers, I love all of your generously shared pearls. All of them.

@pearlsngems that is a wonderful baroque strand with lovely luster. I cannot afford a strand of round GSS, but maybe can swing a strand of GSS baroque. I love your strand because that color is rich and beautiful. I have been stalking Etsy to see if there is a strand I could knot myself, and I don't see anything that satisfies that deep gold color (with my pauper's budget). I may check in with Cees.

@icy_jade Gorgeous! Can you tell me more about that other big luscious white strand in the same photo as the GSS? Is it a WSS strand? Size?

@icy_jade Ooooh! Your GSS strand is gorgeous! The size in right in my sweet spot! So are the overtones and deep color. Funny, i think the gold goes with everyone's skin. But then i'm smitten with GSS and probably don't even see someone's skin tones. All I see is the pearly beauty, LOL!

@MMtwo My circle strand came from Cees. The color really is beautiful and deep, and there are overtones on them, as well. They were, as GSS go, very affordable. This was a while ago, though. Maybe two years?

Here again, my recent strand from Andrew (@molinePDG), the one on the outside, and the circle strand from Cees. Earrings from Andrew.

I am still undecided about whether to use the "bean" clasp. I have larger strands that are on the same bean clasp design and they've been fine. However, I also a have a bracelet on a bean clasp that opened, and the bracelet came off. Fortunately I felt it!
