The halo you found is really nice and very much the current look. You'll scratch less on the corners of the halo than your present corner prongs. Here are a few different types of halos to give you some ideas.
If you want to eliminate the prongs, what about a bezel set halo with a similar outline as the one you like (although for outline, I tend to like more strongly cut corners like the 3rnd on down)?

I don't like a halo that wide on a stone the size of yours. I prefer the look of your stone as it is, to be honest. But if I wanted a halo, it would have to be done by Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch who do very fine micropave halos.

If you do decide to go the reset route, did you ask your jeweler if he/she is able to show you stock settings from reputable vendors such as Ritani
https://www.ritani.com or Gabriel https://www.gabrielny.com. You may save $$ instead of going to a full custom ring. Many of these settings are fabulous and you can ask to see it before committing and try it out to see if you are pleased with the quality and feel.
After seeing halos be a strong trend for over ten years now, I adore the way your current ring looks! I would talk to your jeweler about possibly softening the edges of the ring instead of resetting it. Take the conservative route, and see how that works out before resetting. Your ring is just gorgeous, and you can't beat a nice size accented solitaire!
I too am a fellow brit so appreciate how difficult it can be to reset a stone. I personally love a solitaire. If you can find a good jeweller who can soften your prongs or provide a similar look with a setting that is less scratchy, that might be a better option for you![]()
