Should I halo my 3.02ct F VS2 RB?

I'm getting a slight tweaked version of the Emilya for my 1.91ct RB.

Here's another thought--redo your 3 stone w/ the 3 ct in the middle and halo your BGD blue 2.3ct instead!

Awww, Phoenix! You have exquisite taste and I can feel your excitement over this new idea like it's my own project I'm hemming and hawing over! I like to wear my favorite pieces every day and if I have one or two extra fab pieces, I end up favoring those and feel guilty that the other sparklies lie unloved in the jewelry box. I'll bet with your fabulous halo'd pear, the RB doesn't get as much action? And it is spectacular so you should definitely change it up so that it gets some love, too!

GAH! I love ALL of your bling!!!! Oh and in that finger shot with the huge asscher and RB next to your equally fab 3 carat RB - I think that YOURS stands out the most and is the one I would pick. It just looks like the nicest stone - whitest and most sparkly. And it holds its own very nicely.

Since you love big bling, why not make your 3 carat a three stone or five stone ring like Yssie's? That would be a REALLY super blingy ring!!!!! Like a super 5-stone??? Or do a three stone with the 3 carat and the 2+ carat studs as sides - angled down sharply this time for better proportions and fit? I don't know if you will love the 3 carat halo'd because you have halo'd lots of things but you don't do it to the 3 carat RB for a reason - I'm wondering what the reason is? Heehee...maybe you just love the look of a big yummy nekkid solitaire?

OR..since you want to reset the 3 carat because it's too high, reset it in a Tiffany Vatche setting and get Yekutiel from ID Jewelry to make a custom enhancer? Then you could wear the 3 carat as a solitaire and other days, bling it up with a 3-stone look???? The possibilities are endless!!!!!! Or halo the 3 carat and halo the other two side stones like the 3-stone Ritani look - MAJOR BLING BLING!!!! Hehehehe, to others these ideas would be over the top but I know they'll look amazing on you and you can totally rock it.

I also think you could rock a double halo around the 3 carat like Jennifer Hudson's fabulous e-ring. It would be like a gorgeous cocktail ring for your right hand...or as a huuuuge e-ring look.

Or...just sell everything to get a 5 carat RB!!!!!

I actually do love my 3-stone ring as is and I now have a 5-stone ring from BGD, so no more 3-stone or 5-stone for me, though again I do love the ideas and would absolutely have LOVED to do a 5-stone ring a la Yssie had I not had the BGD 5-stone ring done! Boo hooo!!

I do not think that you should halo your 3 carater, knowing how much you love your halo'd pear, how often will you really wear it? I think that you should 1) Upgrade it to a 4 carat + RBC or 2) Do what Bliss did with her solitaire, simple solitaire with an enhancer of large carat sidestones. These two choices will definitely add to your jewelry arsenal.

I recently inquired about selling my 3.01 F/S11 and was offered 60K, the stone that I want is 4 carat H/VS2 with a pricetag of 125K, my budget was 40K, I am clearly out of the market and will probably not be able to upgrade to the color and clarity that I want; they did show me a 4 carat J/VS2 at 95K but I noticed the color and I couldn't live with that as my "engagement" ring. My husband asked me a very simple question, "Why don't I just get a different cut?" I answerered, "Because I wont wear it." I have a slew of eternity bands, but I don't think that I need more than one diamond ring.

Take your time and don't rush into anything...enjoy the process.

I think out of all the PS'ers, you're the one who understand the most what I'm going through, and have the most appreciation of the "pain" (if I can call it that) of having to pay several more of tens of thousands of dollars for an upgrade! I agree it is a HUUUUUGE jump, money-wise to go from a 3ct to a 4ct even if one downgrades by one grade in colour. And going from F to J is just simply not going to work, as that's several jumps down in colour and for sure the J would bug you, and I couldn't live with a J in an ering either (though studs or pendants are absolutely ok, imo), being so colour-sensitive myself.

I think I know what I am going to do. Thanks for posting.

First I want to say that your ring is absolutely stunning and I do not see a need to change it. I also completely understand that we all see things differently so maybe a halo would be just what you are looking for with your stone. I have noticed that many people here do not like halos on large stones but I do if they are done right. I have seen beautiful halos on diamonds up to 10 carats!

I'm sorry if my advice seems blunt, but this is not the first time I've read a thread about you and a 4 carat diamond. We have all had situations where we have had a strong crush on a particular stone or setting and it fades. I don't get that sense from you. On the contrary if you could swing a 5+ carat round I'd think you would go for it! So I think you should go ahead and do what you need to to make that happen.

No worries. You're right that I've posted about this a few times already. Obviously, it is not something that I take lightly - as there's a lot of money involved!

Posting about it is kind of like thinking aloud and having various input and suggestions is always good and helps me with my thought process.

Phoenix, no matter the value of the ring, if you are not happy with it, it does you no good. You said yourself it hasn't been worn in years! Better to lose your shirt for something you adore, than be stuck with a pricey bauble that gives you no pleasure.

I do doubt that you will get 12% off retail for it, unless you find the perfect buyer. You cannot offer the services, return, exchange, and upgrade policies and security of a jeweler/store, so it will always been seen as lesser because it is second-hand, no matter how beautiful and/or flawless the diamond may be.

He he, I wasn't gonna say anything, but just for you!

I am still going to try and sell it, to get a 4ct+ RB F-G VS with no fluor. If I can't get a price close to what I'd like (and the best is to go with a vendor who's going to sell you the replacement, ie. trade-in as opposed to selling outright), I'm going to keep it and halo it with a very thin very delicate halo, most prob the Emilya by Victor C, but with even a thinner halo. Just like my pear is not so much made bigger with the very thin very delicate halo, but the halo enhances it and makes it more appealing. (I'm 1000% certain that if my pear was a solitaire, as large as the centre pear diamond already is, I wouldn't love it as much).

Some PS'ers mentioned that it's such a shame not to wear my 3ct RB for so many years (In fact, close to 3 yrs - I'd misremembered in my post above - since we left Singapore for Shanghai) and I absolutely agree. I haven't worn it and am not going to, as it is. I know I know, a 3ct is quite large for most pple and for me too when I first got it, but alas DSS has seriously set it and it does look smaller compared to my pear and my 3-stone ring, not just "smaller smaller" but insubstantial IYKWIM because of the plain & unwearable setting that it's in currently.

If I do not sell it, I may look for an EC or an asscher later down the line (prob an EC as EC's seem to be priced more favourably). If this is the case, I may sell my yellow cushion "art-deco"ish VC ring (as much as I love this, I don't wear it very often); and maybe a few other pieces. I'd really like to end up with pieces that I *do* in fact wear and wear very often. What I'd like is perhaps 3 (max 4) LHR's and one 5-stone band for my RH ( I don't wear a RHR most days).

I know this is not in line wt the majority of the votes (again, thanks to PS'ers for voting and posting), but seeing it written out and hearing various suggestions make it so much clearer for me.

Btw, when's yr gorgeous 5-solasfera stone ring going to finish? I can't wait to see it...
