Hi all, this is a two-part question.

I intend to propose in less than a month - I bought the diamond and the ring is being made right now!

The surprise proposal will take place in the hotel room during our forthcoming trip, and the lights will either be very dim or there will be candles. I worry the diamond might not look its best under those conditions, even though the diamond is amazing - round brilliant, D colour, VVS2 with terrific cut - and it remains pretty bright even when the lighting is not all that great. But still, the first impression is crucial. Accordingly:

1. Is it worth getting one of those ring boxes with a built in light to really make the diamond/ring sparkle? Is a simple ring box worth all the trouble?

2. Where can I get one of those boxes? All the old links from previous topics I have found on PS are no longer working, the only one I can find on e-bay is for 2 rings, and the only working link, http://www.favoritejewelry.com/RingBoxes/Ring-Boxes.htm , does not deliver outside of the US and Canada (I''m in Australia) + you need to buy 3 in one go!

I really want everything to be perfect so please help!

Thanks

mmmm, the room lighting, pupil dilation may be good for fire. very romantic look.

i wouldn''t bother...

I personally would skip the box and fill the room with candles. One, it''s terribly romantic, and two, diamonds look awesome in candle light.

Candlelight will make the diamond throw off fireballs which adds to the "old-feel" romance: I''ll skip the lighted box.

If you like the box, then get the box. I had one, but it just came that way automatically from James Allen company (DCD). It worked out nicely because we were in a dim setting, but ultimately it not what she is going to remember. It can be a nice touch though.

You can call James Allen and ask if you wish. I am sure they would be glad to speak to you.

most girls would be happy with a lump of coal. if you think her decision is going to hinge on whether or not the ring sparkles enough, you''ve got more worries than finding a lighted box.

the ring is all you need.

best of luck!

Thanks everyone for their input!

I''ve given up on the lighted box idea and am putting my efforts into the actual proposal itself!

If I can get away with putting candles in the room I certainly will!

Good deal, try hard for the candles!

Hi knuman, I''m in the exact same situation as you. Mine might be outside in a darker setting but I finally decided to just bring a small LED pocket flashlight. One of those tiny ones that throws A LOT of light. That way, if I need some light in an emergency, it''s right there. You can also use it when the ring is on her finger too so that she can see it better. Harder to do with a lighted ring box. If you end up not needing it because of candles, it never has to leave your pocket.
