Should I be concerned?

Okay. I picked up my ring from FedEx today. Everything about it looked perfect, until a couple hours later when I took out my loupe and decided to check the prongs. Doing a quick check, everything looked okay. When I decided to be more OCD and check every prong with more detail, I noticed one prong where the top of the prong touches the very top of the diamond, but that's the only place. The place where I thought the prong was supposed to clasp or hold the diamond, there is air space and air space continues down the prong. It's a six prong setting, and the diamond does not appear to move. I'm not a jeweler, so maybe this is normal? I've contacted the vendor, but being the weekend, I'll have to wait until Monday. I know the vendor has tight quality control. I'm really bummed because I decided to change settings. The first time the diamond was set, all prongs looked just fine through loupe. I like and prefer this new setting. I'm just worried about this prong.

So, if the girdle area of the diamond is not touching any metal in the notch area of the prong (the place that I thought was supposed to hold/clasp the diamond), will it be enough for the top of the prong which only touches the top of the diamond, to keep the diamond secure?

Okay. I am not good at taking pictures. I was able to get this picture - the prong on the far right is the one I'm talking about. When I enlarge it, I can see it better, but there is a gap between the diamond and the prong. It is harder to see up by the girdle area of the diamond, but the only place the metal touches the diamond on this particular prong is at the very top of the diamond (easier to see with the loupe). There is no metal touching around the girdle area. I took it to a local jewelry store only to have them look at it through a loupe and get an opinion. They said the diamond looked fine in the prongs. When I pointed out the particular prong, the person at the local jewelry store, did see upon closer examination, what I was talking about and did agree that there is air space. They did say the diamond is secure as is, but it could be tightened. So, I am planning on contacting the vendor tomorrow. Does anyone have any thoughts? Am I being too picky about the prong?

I think your jeweller is right - neither your diamond nor your setting are in any danger whatsoever, but a slight tightening wouldn't hurt if it would make you feel better

Whoever did your setting did a fantastic job: the prongseats are cleanly cut and look to match the angles of crown and pavilion and thickness of girdle very well. Many jewellers aren't so careful!

So I sent the ring back to be fixed. Received it today. Took out my loupe this afternoon and I found another prong with the same type of gap as the one that was just fixed. Several people looked at the ring before it was returned to me. Why is this happening to me? (Sorry, I'm frustrated.) The information I have found on prongs all says that gaps in prongs need to be fixed. Do I have a defective setting? Before I sent the first setting back to have it changed out with it's current setting, the prongs looked fantastic, so I wasn't concerned about that (I've had bad setting jobs done in the past). I'm regretting having changed the setting even though I like this one much better. The diamond appears to be secure. With the ring I had previous to this one, the notches on the prongs had an appearance of grabbing the diamond and holding it in place. Maybe I shouldn't look carefully at each prong with the loupe, but rather do a quick glance at the top of the diamond and as long as the diamond doesn't move, not worry? Any thoughts about what I should do at this point?
