This has to do with diamonds, I swear.

Some of you may remember my post about retrieval of rings from a friend''s broken engagement: Broken engagement, ring unreturned.

The good news is that the rings have been retrieved by another friend who lives in the same area. Now they must be shipped here (Southern CA) from there (Austin, TX.) The shipment is worth approximately $40,000, and it would need to be sent overnight.

Either that or someone''s going to have to fly there in the next couple of days, which will cost $350, at least.

What shipping method should we advise our friend to use when returning the rings? Would especially love to hear from jewelers or people who''ve purchased high ticket items recently.

Thanks so much!

Probably UPS insured would be the best way to go. UPS offers their own insurance which will cover the shipment. The charge is $0.35 per hundred, excluding the first hundred, plus the shipping charge.

A $40,000 overnight shipping charge will probably cost you about $175.

In regards to worst case scenario, UPS is good at paying up on lost shipments.
