Shank Height?

What is a "safe" height for ER shank to be able to stack with ~2mm bands (or smaller)? Is 1.3-1.4 mm shank height really low?
I'm not sure what the norm range is for solitaires?

Also, if you stack with a larger eternity (10-20 pointers) please let me know your ER shank height.
Pics would be fabulous as well:)

Many Thanks!

Yeah, I think 1.3-1.4 is low. 20 pointers will pretty much sit higher than the e-ring shank, though, which is why we usually don't recommend them that big to wear with an e-ring.

I just measured mine. The height of the knife edge ring is a little over 2mm at the very top next to the diamond and 2mm just a little farther over to the side. My Tiffany Legacy band I consider to be relatively low, and it is 2mm high.

Thanks, appreciate it DS!
I just caught that when going back to compare the different solitaires at WF and thought that seemed low.
May be back to the drawing board. :wall:

I remember a couple of people in the past changing settings from one of BG's settings because it was just too low to wear bands with. You are very wise to consider shank height!

Oh, and I did have a Memoire band with 10 pointers which was the right height. But that brand sets the stones really low and not all do.

I just checked BGD b/c I have had my eye on the Classic Tiffany Half Round and the tapered version as well.
Per the website:

Classic Tiffany Half Round:
Measurements
Top Width 2 mm Bottom Width 1.8 mm
Top Height 2.3 mm Bottom Height 1.45 mm

Tapered Tiffany Half Round:
Top Width 1.85 mm Bottom Width 2.1 mm
Top Height 2.4 mm Bottom Height 1.75 mm

What about the knife edge solitaire at WF? I just got mine and I really LOVE it!
I think the shank height is going to be perfect for stackers. It looks really nice with my channel set WB. I had them soften the knife edge a bit, like M-2-B did and I think that really made a difference for me. I will post the glamour shots in a bit and try to get some hand shots today.

I'm not 100% sure about comfort factor of knife edge for me .I heard you either you love or you don't. You'll have to let me know if you notice a comfort difference from your past ER (assuming it wasn't knife edge). I also can't wait to see it stacked with other bands!
Do you have any idea of the height?

It's so far very comfortable, but I did have them soften the knife edge, so it is not sharp. I don't know the measurement of the height, but it rises slightly toward the crown, which I like and that helps it rise above my WB. I don't have my Tiffany band that I scored on eBay yet, it was attempted to be delivered today at my office...so I will have that on Monday. I will post some pics with my WB though, so you can see that.

You cannot feel the knife edge if you are wearing bands the same height. I never wear a solitaire without a band, so it has never caused me any discomfort even though my edge is definitely thin...I would never say sharp because it really isn't. The height is great on the other two Tiffany rings, too, and about the same as my knife edge height.

Ohhh, I didn't hear you found a Tiffany band! Which one?

So are you thinking of sending your WF stone to Brian Gavin for setting, if you get the setting there? Or how would you work that out?

I think I read you have to send the stone to BGD. Ideally it would be nice if BG could make the setting per the diamond measurements and send to WF to set..but doesn't sound like that is an option. Really not sure what I'm going to do..once again:)

DS, which other two Tiffany rings are you referring to?

mns12--Did you see WF's new policy regarding designer engagement rings, especially since you are still undecided on the setting? Looks like 50% of the original sale price will be credited towards a single designer setting as part of their lifetime trade up benefit.

No, I did not know that...thanks for pointing that out. But that won't apply if I purchase one from WF's line correct?

a question definitely worth asking!

I believe you are correct. They will give you credit for raw materials from their WF signature designs, though.

Hi!
Unfortunately not, my mind changes from day to day...indecisiveness is evil :Up_to_something:
I did hear back from WF though that for the Exquisite ring, the height of the shank near the center stone is 3mm, it's about 1.55mm half way down, and about 1.4mm at the bottom. So the 1.38mm (1.4) height on the website is accurate, but only for the very bottom of the ring. So if I decide I still want a simple solitaire that is a top runner.

On a bright note I just received confirmation my u-prong eternity arrived today!! Can not wait to see my first ACA's

How have you been enjoying your gorgeous rock? I'm sure you are getting a ton of WOW's:)

Oh, I didn't know you were getting a uprong eternity! Can't wait to see it!
Yes, loving my ring and everybody loves it. I really do understand about being indecisive. it's a tough decision.
I was at the jeweler's yesterday getting the appraisal and caught myself looking at some settings! LOL.
The owner said when looking at my new diamond "do you like the setting?" I'm sure fishing for business, since it's in a simple solitaire, maybe hoping I was planning to change! LOL...I said "for now". I told my husband I said that and he gave me the stink eye! :naughty: Hey, a girl can always change her mind about these things! The rock can get new homes along the way!

Ha ha, a natural instinct I suppose! And my husband doesn't quite understand all the fuss and research I have been putting in regarding the setting. Speaking of insurance, are you using Jewelers Mutual Circle insurance or adding to homeowners? I think this time around I am going to go with JM as long as the premiums are competitive. Unfortunately this was our 3rd claim in 1.5 years so thinking better not to have on homeowners!

I am going to check with JM too and see what the premium is. I agree that it would be nice to not have it on the homeowner's insurance, this had been our 2nd claim in 15 years (the first rock chipped).

are you going to wear your u-prong with your ER?
