Settings for large Asscher cut diamond?

First, let me say that I'm so glad I've found my people! My almost-fiance told me to figure out what ring I want, but doesn't want to talk about the details much. Meanwhile, I'm SO EXCITED, I'm bursting to talk about it ALL THE TIME!!!

So, here's where I need help. I've narrowed it down to an Asscher cut, between 2 and 3 carats, but I haven't been able to find the right setting. I like pave and micropave on the band and maybe the prongs? I like antiques. I do NOT like halos or side stones. Any ideas? Designers or shops you can steer me towards?

Thank you!

They aren't for everyone, but have you considered a tension setting?
We love ours below.
FYI the larger asscher is 2.26 ct.

With a tension setting you get to see MUCH more of the diamond you paid for.
Asschers give off plenty of bling when viewed from the side too.
Light gets to enter the diamond from more angles too.

Diamonds in tensions settings are much easier to keep clean.
IMHO tension settings are safer than prongs since they are so strong and beefy.
Usually when a diamond is lost due to a bent prong the person had no idea she/he bent the prong.
Prongs can bend just by putting on a sweater, or reaching into a purse, and you'll never know it till it's too late. ;(

Since special alloys and processes are required to safely hold the diamond there are only four companies I'd trust to tension set my diamond, Steven Kretchmer, Gelin Abaci, Neissing, and Boonerings.
The last works only in titanium.

I think asschers look great in bezel settings:

I know you said you don't like halos, but I have to post these 2 beautiful rings:

omg asscher!

so i'm bit biased, but one of the most beautiful (well i like antique style) asscher ring i've ever seen was at philip press's workshop in west hollywood. i almost wanted that exact setting, but decided to go custom since my stone is round and the ring was for asscher/squarish cut. it has "bezel" prongs i dont know if that's what it's called but that's what i'm calling it! gah i can't really describe it, but PLEASE go to

http://www.philippress.com and click on "rings" and before you click on engagement rings, etc, there's a black background photoshoot thing with several of his rings. it's the second one from the right! the side profile and top view is shown together! can't see it too well?? go to "custom designs" and click on watch video. slightly less than half way through he shows that specific ring!! he's focusing more on the setting since that's what he's talking about in the video, but that's the same ring! and i saw it in person too GAH so beautiful.

kk good luck on your search!!

Lucky! 2.5 or so was my sweet spot for an Asscher, I digress..check out Mark Patterson's website for a beautiful knife edge split shank. Very classic and elegant looking. Wow that Phillip Press :lickout: good luck, can't wait to see the final verdict...
