I was browsing settings to suggest to my firstborn son since he and the GF finally decided to get married after 10 years together. She had been married previously and has an 18 year old daughter who lives with them. The also have the 4 year old son (our grandson).

I found this setting as I thought the EightStar would look good in it. My son and the GF agree. They are going to a Mom and Pop B&M who will design something similar. As long as they are happy, I am happy.

Nice to see you posting again Rodentman. I have forgotten how big your EightStar is, did you give it to them?

I love it that they are going to a local Mom and Pop for having the ring done. They will always have someone there who will be happy to see them, clean and polish the ring, and do any sizing or repair work that needs to be done.

My one suggestion for the design would be to ask the bride to be if she likes the flat inside, or would she prefer a comfort fit shank. It will look the same when worn and some people really prefer the comfort fit shank while others prefer the flat.

Sholdt makes a very similar setting that has more curves. If they like it, it would eliminate the risk of going custom. It has been my experience that clean and contemporary settings can be quite difficult to execute, even more so than vintage and more traditional styles. In clean and spare settings, every thing must be in proportion and of perfect angles.

If they like Sholdt, they need to work through an authorized retailer. They might like this Vashon line.

I like the Scholdt much better, it looks more comfy and less bulky. How sweet of you to giv,e them the diamond. And isn’t being a grandparent the best?

I agree that custom is somewhat risky for a setting like that, and I totally agree with the recommendation to look at Sholdt. There may be a jeweler nearby who sells it, but if not, I know Erica of Love Affair Diamonds works closely with them.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have to weigh how much involvement I should have in this matter. My son likes to be independent and sometimes I am too hands on. We'll see how they do with the jeweler. Also, folks here are far more emotionally invested in design than my kids. Stay tooned.
