Hi all, this is my first post in this forum - hope I'm in the right place! Just before the coronavirus, my grandmother told me she wants to give me her old engagement ring (round brilliant, around 1.25-1.5ish carats) and I have her blessing to do whatever I liked with it. I thought I would turn it into an everyday right hand ring. I am quite a blingy person and I love big over the top jewelry!
It is not a certified stone, and my guess (from memory, since the ring is lying at her bank in a different city - I wasn't able to take it from her before the situation went pear-shaped) is that it can be considered an alphabet yellow (X-Z). Its current setting is a simple yellow gold solitaire band, but the band is two sizes too small for me and two prongs are broken/chipped, so the ring will definitely have to be reset. It looks like a pale lemon-y yellow in the sunlight and indoors, never actually looking 'white' (and I'm quite color tolerant) - the whitest it looks is like a yellowish cream. It is quite sparkly however, so I think its cut well.
I don't want to keep the diamond as a single solitaire in a band - I'm a size ho (runs in the family!) and I want it to look very big and bold on my hand. I love the color of the stone though and I definitely want it to be a ring (I don't wear pendants and I already have nice studs, besides I feel like matching this stone will be difficult). However, I don't want to add other color stones to it either (since its yellowy, I would only add other yellow stones or white). I do want to wear it every day so it can't be a setting that is too high off the hand. The only thing I can think of right now is to either do 2 white side stones, or a halo/double halo in either intense yellow melee or white melee.
Suggestions are very welcome! I would love if you would weigh in on my two ideas, or give me some of your own.
