Hi everyone,

My push present from my hubby is a new diamond for my e-ring, a 5.7mm OEC (small for PS I know!) but my current diamond is 4.55mm so I am preparing myself for a re-set in case nothing can be done with the existing setting. So, I want to prepare myself before I go to the jewellers (should receive my diamond in a couple of weeks) and see if my money goes further getting a setting from the US or having the jeweller re-set it here in the UK.

Now back in 2009 my e-ring setting cost £450 (approx $720) and wedding band £850 (approx $1360) so these would be our rough budget parameters. No one knows we are upgrading my diamond so my setting needs to look v similar as we don't want to invite questions (helping us is that I've not been able to wear my rings since I was 30 weeks pregnant due to v bad swelling). I don't mind subtle tweaks eg profile, maybe increase the width of my band slightly (currently approx 1.9mm) etc... and I definitely want the prongs to be more delicate. My wedding ring is bead set and just under 3mm wide, I like a delicate, vintage feel but not too fussy.

What the setting definitely needs -

1) made of platinum
2) four claw prong
3) diamonds in shank (currently channel set, could go bead set)
4) width 2mm-2.5mm
5) durable - I will be wearing this every day

Here are pics of my current e-ring and wedding band and thanks for your help and ideas in advance!!

Agnasia, are you thinking of replacing both your e-ring setting & your wedding band, or did you provide us with the cost of your wedding band because you would be willing to apply some, or all of that, to the cost of the new e-ring semi-mount?
When you say you should be receiving the OEC in several weeks, does that mean it's coming from a US vendor; if so, has it already left them (I'm wondering if there's the option of having the US vendor set the OEC before sending the packet off to you)?

Sorry, that probably wasn't clear in my post! I'm not sure how much a re-set would cost here in the UK as I'm guessing it would be more expensive now than it was five years ago. My wedding band was more expensive (because of more platinum I guess) so I'm estimating that a re-set of my e-ring now may cost between £450-850 in the UK, if that makes sense? My wedding band is staying as it is, I'm only looking at my e-ring setting. I hope that is clear, if not I'm blaming baby brain and lack of sleep!!

Yes the OEC is coming from the US and no it hasn't been sent yet. Ideally we'd like to "just" replace the diamond, but having received some advice from PS it sounds that it may not be possible. So I'm thinking ahead and figuring out my options. My husband is really keen to keep the original setting so I think we would take the ring and diamond to a jeweller here to see what they say first. I totally get your thinking though!
