Hello everyone, this is my very first post here on PS. I have been amazed by all the beautiful settings that everyone shared here. With my hubby's blessing, we recently upgraded my Diamond to a 2 carat ACA vs2, color g diamond that we purchased from whiteflash to celebrate our 20th anniversary. I received the diamond last week. I now need help choosing a setting :)

I'm torn btw vatche x prong 100: http://www.primejeweler.com/vatche-x-prong-round-engagement-ring-100/
and ritani 3245: https://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/ritani-1rz3245-solitaire-engagement-ring-3961.
If I went with vatche, I am planning to go with platinum
If I went with ritani, I can only afford 14k

I see many x prong on PS. That seems to be a very popular setting.
I like the simplicity of the 2 settings.

Any thought or advice on these 2 settings would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi! Congratulations on your new diamond! I like the Vatche much more and I almost purchased that exact same style. On the Ritani, the width of the Ritani is too wide and I think it takes away from the diamond. I think the Vatche highlights the diamond more. Just my two cents.

Good luck!

I like the X-prong better. But, just to show an alternative, this ring by Christine Guibara is a favorite of mine and David Klass made a great version of it.

I like the Vatche. There is a possibility that the diamonds on the ritani may eat into a wedding band. You might need a separator band. Plus I'm not big
on the prongs of the ritani.

How big is the stone that you are having set?

Hello, tyty333, 2 carat ACA g vs2. The store that carries vatche doesn't have the exact x prong 100 in their showroom. They have the x prong with the bezel head only.

I did see the ritani in person. The shank was being exaggerated by the online pictures. Both rings have 3.6mm at their widest width according to the sales people. They should look the same from the top view except the ritani has more blings from the side.

I really like the simplicity of x prong but also thought the side stones in ritani would add more bling....

Here are the dilemma I have:
X prong pros and ritani cons:
1. I can get the x prong in platinum as it is within my budget. I can only afford white gold 14k in ritani. I actually don't mind wg at all and I love its shine. The reason I put platinum as a pros because I never own a platinum ring b4... thought I would give it a try.
2. $400+ cheaper than ritani
3. My jeweler will set the stone in house and my stone doesn't need to travel all the way to New York for setting. Whereas the other jewelry store that carries ritani needs to send my stone all the way to ny for setting. I don't feel comfortable doing that to be honest.

X prong cons or ritani pros:
1. No side stones for additional Bling.

What do u guys think of those side stones? I really like them because they are kind of like surprise diamonds when u view the ring from the side....

Wow that is beautiful! It really makes the center stone pops!

Thanks Miki! Yes I like vatche x prong too. Indeed I had my eyes on it first.... every time when I checkout pictures online, for some reasons all the pictures I like turn out to be vatche x prong when I clicked into them for more details...:)

I would still go with the Vatche. Extra bling may be needed for a smaller stone, but your diamond is a nice size.

If you close your eyes and look at each photo, with the Vatche your eye goes right to the diamond. With the Ritani, the eye goes first to the little diamnds and then the larger diamond so your eye wanders.

For me, I want my ring to be all about the big diamond, as in “beautiful diamond”, not “beautiful ring”. Subtle, but key difference in my mind.

Let the 2ct diamond be the star.

Just my two cents.

By the way, I prefer platinum over white gold any day. Platinum is pure and never needs to be re-dipped.

White gold may turn yellow and need to be re-dipped which to me just feels cheesy (I don’t know why). Most high end diamond jewelry is platinum for what it’s worth.

It’s preference though.

I’m not sure if your local Jeweler carries Jeff Cooper, but I had this setting (Greta version) before I upgraded my RB and I absolutely loved it. The quality was great and the price was better than Ritani for the platinum setting.

I’ve also had Ritani and Vatché settings and I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice.

I prefer the Vatche over the other, but I have to say that wider shank settings like that x-prong haven't been popular around here in several years. Many people think that a thinner shank (like under 2.5mm) makes the diamond look bigger. So I'd only go forward if you have looked at or tried on a lot of settings and still love that one the most. And it's fine if you do, of course! You can look at Show Me the Bling to see a lot of current rings.

Hello diamondseeker, thanks for the slimmer shank suggestion. I did look around more to ensure I don't regret with my choice. I did find that I like a width that is around 3.0mm. Since the jewelry store does not have X-Prong setting for me to try on, Vatche actually had sent a sample in. Surprisingly, it looks like they may have changed the width... The width of the X-Prong sample ring is so different from all of the X-Prong pictures I have seen on PS.... the shank is much much slimmer. Probably around 3-3.3mm? It is not "wide" at all. So, I went ahead with the setting and it will arrive in 2 weeks :) I can't wait to have them set the diamond on it.

I will post pictures once I receive the ring :)

Thank you all for your help! Really appreciate it!

Wow, that was SO helpful to be able to try on a sample ring! I agree that 3mm isn't too wide. I look forward to seeing your completed ring!

My vote is for the Vatche in Platinum if you can swing the extra cost for Platinum. I love the swoopiness and simple sophistication of the Vatche.

Though I have to say @rockysalamander that is a lovely X Prong version. Graceful and elegant.

@Kae, I'm a little late to the party, since you already ordered, but I recently had a Vatche x-Prong sent to me, and, yes, it was 3 mm. Excited to see your ring when it arrives!

Hi Krisking, you also ordered Vatche X? That is great. I looked at so many settings but I keep on going back to the very first one that I landed my eyes on, Vatche X Prong. I like the classic and simplicity of it. Yes, I will post more pictures when I got the ring :)

Hi Krisking, you also ordered Vatche X? That is great.

@Kae, I ordered it to see the proportions in real life and try it on (potential future project). It's a clean, classic design, and I like a band with a bit of substance and reverse taper.

I c. The thing that puzzles me is based on previous Vatche x prong pictures on PS, it looks like vatche has changed the widest width to a tab smaller.... I think the older design probably has its width set at around 3.6-3.8?

I'm a little late to this thread, but if a wider setting is what you love, then the Vatche would've been my choice as well... so I'm glad you chose it! :mrgreen2: I can't wait to see the finished piece! BTW, what type of band are you pairing with this?

FWIW, I agree about the platinum... I think you'll enjoy the heft -- it provides a more luxurious feel than WG, IMO. (and I used to be "team white gold" all the way... until I reset in platinum) ;)

Hi guys, I just got a call from my jeweler that they have received the setting from Vatche. I am going there tomorrow to give them my stone. It came in 1 week earlier then the 2 weeks original estimated period. I am paranoid again thinking they might just gave me the sample ring that was sent last week. I have a question for you. Since this is a custom made ring, I assume I should not expect to see a "resizing" line or any line in the ring itself, correct? I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Thanks for your help.

BTW, is there a particular prong vs stone's arrow direction that I need to tell my jeweler how to set it? Or it doesn't really matter?

In terms of setting height, I like medium high setting. Please see the attached 2 images. Which one is better?VatcheSetting2.JPG VatcheSetting1.JPG

I like my prongs between the arrows -- not on the arrow. But, its personal choice.

Hi @Kae, any updates?
