Setting "Gladys": my new 4 carat OEC from JbEG

I found nothing like this in Australia, arkieb!! Other than at overpriced (but excellent quality) antique jewellers like Martin and Stein, Catanach's and Keshetts. And I am nowhere near good enough to try ebay for things like this. I bow down to you!!

I am in Brisbane. I lived in Sydney many years ago and come from NSW so I know Martin and Stein - stunning items price tag to match!!! I know all the Antique shops up here.

Self confessed bargain hunter. Found my old girl "hunting" its true!!! Haven't posted pics yet because I am still working out what to do with her. I am also abysmal at taking any kind of pics unfortunately. She is irregular a cushion shaped OEC the outline shape is almost a blueprint of yours actually.

I think yours needs a prettier less matronly name btw!!!!

I was thinking about rechristening her Dixie, arkieb. It seems apt: Dix is French for ten (it's our tenth anniversary gift to, well, me) and we love spending time in France. She is also a 10mm stone (dix, ten again). And (despite living most of my life in Australia) I was born in Atlanta, so am a Southerner by birth. But I want to see her properly before committing. It's almost harder than naming your kids (although at least you don't have to get your partner to agree to a name - that took 8 1/2 months last time...). What are the stats on your precious? And I'm sure your photography would be better than mine - I am shocking!

Thanks for the donut advice, JustGinger (now I am thinking about donuts...). I do like my e-ring and wedder to sit together otherwise I tend to fiddle with them. A lot. I was considering getting a thin spacer band with a cut out for the donut if the gap does bother me but if I end up doing a version of SB's band, there wouldn't be a donut. SB: did you feel like Venice sat securely on your finger despite the fact there was no donut, or did she tilt a bit?

I can't wait to see it set!!!! No specs or pics yet as I am still figuring out what to do with the stone. I am hopeless I buy and sell things, including stones - did this before I discovered Pricescope so I can't blame here for that.... Anyway one way or another should have something cool to show everyone by the end of the year myself or that is the goal anyway!!!!

Here is my oringal setting from the top down. It doesn't have a traditional donut as you can see but I never felt at any time the diamond wan't secure though. However, that might be because the swooping sides.

Arkie!!!! :naughty: I think you owe us a thread!!!! We need to see this diamond!!!!

I do indeed love the rosebud setting that SB had as a temp setting. I will post one made by SK that is all pave. But it can also be plain metal with just the pave in the top of the curves on the side.

I realize the complication of being in another country, but are you still going to be able to return this ring if you don't love the diamond? I just know that these diamonds have to be seen in person. Valmanin is a good recent example of someone who ordered a stone that she doesn't love. I don't like to see people stuck in that position.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the diamond version!

No probs. When I work out what the heck I am doing with the OEC (keeping it, recutting it, selling it etc), I will let you know. Working on having something or two to show by xmas that is the goal....
I can show something I sold 2.30 carat RB J VS2 triple ex - sold it never wore it not even once!!! A case of thinking split prongs look great on me - incidentally they didn't!!! I do love that Rosebud setting above!!!! RBs didn't do a lot for me then I discovered Old Cuts......

Arkie, I truly think that was my problem all along with my mrb's. They were gorgeous but just not "me". I have loved antique style jewelry as long as I can remember. So I am thankful to have finally figured out the diamonds I want for rings. (However, I still have ideal cut studs and I want a DBY long necklace and bracelet, because I still want some classic pieces with ideal cut stones. Those would be very expensive to pull off in AVR's, not to mention possibly impossible to get the matching stones.)

Thank goodness you make me feel better saying that. I worked my way through a number of RBs and seriously I didn't wear them, my poor DH was like you bought it aren't you going to wear it and they sat unset because I just wasn't into them that much.... I only set them to sell them. Sad but true.

Anyway I can't wait to see MissKitty's honker, I can stare at pics of OECS all day long!!!!

miss kitty - STUNNING diamond!!! Jealous!!!!

Thanks everyone!! I really can't wait to meet her.

DS, I completely understand your thoughts. Thank you for chiming in. That's one of the reasons I don't want to spend too much on the setting. If I decide to sell her or return her I don't want to lose out too much. I LOVE the diamond version of the rosebud! I wonder if I could take that suggestion and have a tiny little bit of pave on the swoops... Hopefully by mid next week I will have an idea of what it looks like in SB's setting and will be a tiny bit closer to making the decision.

I don't have any recommendations for a setting, but I wanted to say WOW! to your beautiful stone :appl:

I wondered about how you named her, and thought "Gladys" was maybe a play on words, like "Glad is mine" :loopy:
Now it seems like she'll be getting a new moniker!

Wow, gorgeous stone!! I know what you mean about a somewhat vintage setting that also has a bit of a contemporary feel to it...I want to reset my OEC and have been looking for a similar kind of setting - and they're not that easy to find lol. I think your stone would look lovely in the Sophie - here's a thread about Burk's modified Sophie - it has a split shank and cathedral sides, I think it is so pretty.

I love this, Gladys would look great in this setting. I hope we hear about her "Pips" too.

I hope we hear too! JbEG has got a LOAD of beautiful stones in at the moment. Some are truly jaw droppingly beautiful. I haven't really thought about a split shank but I think she would look great in one.

Ha ha! No, not my choice. We'll see if Dixie sticks!

Erica has sent me some new photos of Dixie (aka "Gladys").

Everything after the GIA cert is new.

I couldn't be more in love if I tried. She is amazing.

And this is the photo that made me decide to go with the rosebud style setting. I love how it makes her look more cushiony and the double claws on the corners will look fabulous.

Thanks for the suggestion SB! I have also asked if I can get a bit of pave on the gallery, as per your suggestion. Now to get it costed out and (fingers crossed) into production!

Oh my goodness. That is stunning! :appl:

Thanks luvmysparklies! Erica has said it's definitely doable which is exciting. I can't wait!!!

What a beautiful stone! Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

That setting is a wonderful choice missk! Your ring is going to be fabulous, can't wait to see it!

Love the setting choice! I especially love pave just on the swoopy parts on the four sides.

Thanks everyone! I think it meets my objective of being simple and classic but still a little bit special and unique (courtesy of the pave which you will only see from the sides anyway). It is going to be one heck of a beautiful ring. I am so excited!! I am BEYOND excited.

Oh good!!!! I just had a feeling if you saw it in my old setting it would help you decide! And I really can't take credit as it was DS who first brought up the rosebud many moons ago when I bought Venice.

And yes definitely have yours made with diamonds in the swooping parts (or whatever the technical term is. Also just for reference my shank was 2.8mm wide. I'm not sure if you like or dislike the width in the picture but thought I would mention that as I know most rings on PS go towards thinner bands. For the rosebud you really need something in the 2.2-2.8mm range

Well thank you SB and diamondseeker! It's such a fabulous style. I was worried that the symmetry thing might bother me a little too because the original photos showed a little bit of asymmetry to my eyes but in the setting it's beautifully symmetrical. And I think the new pictures are so much nicer than the originals (or maybe it's because she's now almost mine and I love her so much?).

I think I might make the band a tad thinner. I have a small space between the base of my finger and my knuckle and my current e ring and wedder are both 2mm. I still want to wear my wedding band and my bezel alternating eternity. I would probably also go a smidge thinner because I think it will suit the stone. Venice looked wonderful in her 2.8mm band because she is so ginormous. So maybe 2.5mm? Will talk to Erica when I get a minute!
