I am brand new here and need advice for my ''new'' wedding ring. My husband and I are renewing our vows this spring and I am getting a new ring as well. My wedding band was lost and we have no insurance money coming from it, so our budget is tight.

We purchased a loose ''pink'' champagne diamond, (6mm size) and I want a vintage/vintage looking semi mount or setting to put it in. I love two kinds of vintage looks, one is the very popular ''halo'' look, with the diamond frame and the other is an ornate white gold setting, it''s a new ring, but made from ''antique ring molds'', but it doesn''t have any accent diamonds to offset the main diamond. This is very similar to the color of my diamond (on my screen anyway, it''s definitely more of a pink than yellow or brown/gold).

http://www.colordiamondshop.com/detail.php?id=2208&scroll=3184

I am torn between the two styles, because while I love the ornate white gold setting, I am afraid the stone will look dull in the setting (it is not a high prong setting, more flush mounted)...I want to highlight the pretty/subtle pink champagne color of the stone and I think the halo style, with whiter diamonds for contrast would do that, while the ''plain'' white gold setting may just make it look like a ''dirty'' diamond.

Here is the white gold setting I like:

The biggest issue right now is budget...I have been trying to find something affordable (under $400) and can''t find anything. I really don''t need the best clarity for the accent diamonds in a halo style, since the main stone is not bright white either. I have also searched this site for links to stores, but haven''t found anything in my budget. Our budget took a huge hit after a Christmas Day visit to the ''ER'' so we have to keep looking.

Any ideas or links to reasonably prices e-stores?

I made the huge mistake of putting my pink champagne diamond in white gold recently with pink prongs hoping I could reuse a beautiful Tacori style mount for it. Well, it pretty much killed the beautiful pink color. I have since reset it in a pink gold halo, and it glows pink. I have worn it out and people have commented that they like my "pink" diamond!

Beautiful stone by the way. I think it's a gorgeous light brown pink shade and it will look very pink in a rose gold setting. Regarless of whether you do a three stone or a halo or a solitaire, please use rose gold around the stone.

There is an ebay dealer called LOGR (Lord of Gem Rings) that does any of his rings in rose gold. You can upgrade the diamond quality and still get this stone set in your budget. However, for such a beautiful and important stone, perhaps I would still check out Whiteflash and see if they have any affordable rose gold mounts.

Oh, thanks for that tip! BTW, that is not my stone (I WISH) but mine is that shade of pink champagne...mine is round and not that large! I''ll keep an eye out for rose gold settings too, I haven''t looked for those yet!

I''d also recommend http://www.jewelryrings.com over Blue Foxx... while they both do recasts of antique molds, the Blue Foxx setting I got 1. didn''t fit the size of stone advertised and 2. had a prong that was wayyyy wonky and needed replacing to even be useable and 3. was very visibly asymmetrical and flawed looking. Jewelryrings.com I''ve used three times and never had a problem with their settings; plus, they''ll do whatever type of gold you want from rose to green gold. Also they''ll customize settings if you see one that is for the wrong size stone or something. Of course, they''re still cheapie repro settings, but at least they are functional and pretty.

LOGR is one that a lot of people here have used for temp settings or cheaper settings. Also OxfordDiamondCo on ebay is one I''ve bought a couple of cheap settings from and been pleased with (for the price), very similar type of Chinese made settings; they do overstate the color & clarity on their settings quite a bit though, which is irritating, but not unexpected for the prices they''re selling for!

Good luck!

Thanks for the links Little Grey Kitten! And for the info on Bluefoxx...they have 100% positive feedback on e-bay, so it's nice to hear from someone that didn't have the best results, to balance out my opinion. I do love their choices though...

I found one I really like on the other site: http://www.jewelryrings.com/Setting-M74.html But am not sure if I'd want the whole setting in pink gold, it may be too much...since all of my other jewelry is white metals.

I found this one from the other place: http://cgi.ebay.com/34CT-E-VS2-ROUND-DIAMOND-SEMI-MOUNT-ENGAGEMENT-RING_W0QQitemZ250350603123QQihZ015QQcategoryZ152869QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

It is pretty, but not sure if it's substantial enough. And bummer, they do have a setting with a rose gold head, but I don't like the setting.

I will keep looking and keep you posted!

Thanks again!

I have several LOGR settings and I've paid to upgrade the diamonds on all of them except one. You can have either SI diamonds of inconsistant quality, but if you do pay to upgrade the diamonds to VS, you will get full cut all sparkley diamonds (at least I did). I suspect their VS diamonds are really SI and their "SI" diamonds are really a combination of SI and I quality and are single cuts. Full cut diamonds sparkke much better. It costs $249/ct to upgrade the diamonds, so on a typical setting of around a half carat of diamonds, it adds a $100 to the cost, but I think it's worth it. It also costs $10 to resize the ring, and $50 to do two tone on any setting that two tone can be done in. Not all of the LOGR settings can be done in two tone. There are a myriad of LOGR mounts for 6mm size stone. I wish we could see a picture of your diamond, it sounds lovely.

You should probably check out
http://www.danforthdiamond.com/

They have some nice settings in many colors
How about something like THIS. I bet they can make it in rose gold.

Or THIS or THIS ONE

The first one is a little more than 400.00 but the other 2 are under.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the further suggestions and info!

Do you have a website/link for the "LOGR" site you mentioned? I'd like to check that out...I think I like the idea of the rose gold head, but white gold band...i'd love to see some like that!

And I am going to try to upload a pic of my diamond...it has a 'feather' inclusion, but is eye clean and is much more pink and very sparkly in person.

Well, I tried to upload the pic and am not doing it right...I'll keep trying!

And, I did find the LOGR store, they do have some interesting settings! A good place to start!

Thanks again for all of the input!

what about doing it in a rose gold solitaire setting for now until you find the *perfect* setting and have more of a budget? It''s a pretty stone. Congrats!

Just a quick update...after looking at TONS of settings, I think I am going to go with this set. They will do the head in rose gold, the rest is white. I REALLY wanted a halo style, but the ones in my price range aren't substantial enough and would need a wedding band to go with it, IMO... but I like the vintage feel of this set. And I like the fact that the bands aren't solid, I don't like to wear a thick band that doesn't let my finger 'breathe'...

Anyway, here's a link to the set, but mine will have a rose gold head:

I'll try to update when I get it all done and on my hand!

Ara Ann, I love the setting!! Great choice on the rose gold head with a white shank. That will really make the pink champagne diamond POP. I''m also having my peachy gray diamond setting created as we speak, and I chose full rose gold (head and shank).

I can''t wait to see your ring!

In case you still wanted the LOGR link, http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/lord_of_gem_rings. There are also other china vendors on eBay that offer excellent services and comperable quality. This one is my favorite - http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/lan.bo4. His selection isn't as large as LOGR but I like his service better. All of these seller can make the rings in 14 K, 18 k white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, or even platinum (no one has attempted this yet).

I also purchased a setting from http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/18kfish and I was very pleased. A vendor who used to import settings from China looked at it and he told me it was high end from what would come out from China. I am not sure if she is able to make settings in rose gold and I know she can't change the head size. She is amazing though - great communication and fast shipping.

ETA: Just finished reading the thread and you already picked a setting. It's gorgeous! I can't wait to see the complete set.

Thanks for the comments everyone and Hi Charmy Poo! (cute name, lol!)

Thanks for those additional links! I looked at the one site and LOVE this ring too, it has kind of a split shank, giving it some 'weight' and has the halo design I LOVE...but I'm not sure how I could work some rose gold into the head on this setting to compliment my diamond. Maybe I'd have to do the whole ring in rose gold? Any suggestions?

Just wanted to pop by and say I am sorry you lost your wb

And, congratulations on your vow renewal.

Congrats on the new vows.....
Nice looking settings!
I love using pink gold for brown diamonds- but we have found it''s a wildcard. Sometimes the pink gold imparts a pink look to the diamond, sometimes not.

I''d love to see photos of your diamond!

Thanks for the nice comments and well wishes everyone!

About the rose gold with my diamond, I have kind of ''tested'' it against several rings I have, one is an old white gold setting from my mother''s original engagement ring...my diamond just fits into the empty setting. The white gold does nothing for the diamond color at all, it looks dull and like a dirty diamond in the white gold. And my husband has an antique rose gold signet ring from his great-grandfather and when the diamond is held up to it, it glows and sparkles like crazy...so I really think it does need a rose gold setting, or head at least. It brings out a nice peachy/pink tone, which is what I like most in a champagne diamond.

I tried to upload a pic of my diamond, but have to resize the file...since I am not very computer savvy, hubby has to do that for me, when he has the spare time! Who knows when that will be, LOL!

Awww bummer. If you open the picture in the Windows accessory, "Paintbrush" or "Paint" as it's called in the icon. It's in the accessories folder under your Start button and then Programs sub menu. Then go to the menu bar and pick "Image" and then scroll down to "Stretch/Skew", a box will open up. Set something like 30% for both the horizontal and vertical boxes (the first two boxes only). It it's too small then you can just click on "Edit" in the menu bar, and then "undo," and start over by resizing to a higher percentage. It's really easy. I'm DYING to see the pictures.

I agree with David that rose gold can be a hit or miss with champagne diamonds. I did see a champagne diamond on the DBL site that was in rose gold halo, and it brought out the yellow tones. A PS'er bought it. I thought it was lovely, but that was a yellow champagne. You have a pink champagne, and I bet the rose gold would be gorgeous with it.

Hey Charmy Poo, (or anyone else who has bought from this vendor http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/lan.bo4)

I really like this setting on their site: http://www.jewelrytoy.com/ring/L011C.jpg

My concern and question is about the quality of the pave setting...has anyone had problems with lost diamonds from this vendor? Are these settings sturdy enough to hold up to daily wear? What is the average repair/replacement cost for a small pave set diamond? I''m just concerned that I''d lose diamonds if I wear this every day.

I LOVE the setting though...any input? I''m thinking of having it made in rose gold.

Thanks!

I found another setting that may be the one... It has mill grain edging, which I LOVE, the halo look and it can be made in rose gold. It is a LOGR setting... Any feedback on their quality is appreciated!

I need an opinion though, would this be too thin of a band to wear it without a wedding band? I think the head is high enough for me to wear a band with it, but I would maybe add one later. I just don''t want to look like I''m still engaged, LOL!

I''ve finally decided, after seeing some very nice LOGR settings completed in the Eye Candy folder, I am going with this last ring...but need some prong advice...I am only doing the head/prongs in rose gold, to highlight the champagne diamond, but this setting has 6 prongs...should I change it out to a 4 prong? Would the 6 prong detract more from the diamond than the 4 prong would? Any advice on that?
