Setting for a cushion

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking on pricescope for awhile ever since my boyfriend and I had talked about getting engaged. He's planning on purchasing in about two months, so I thought I'd start to get serious. I love the way cushion cuts look (the more squared cushion cuts versus rectangle). We're looking at getting a ring around 1.3 to 1.5 carats. I pretty small fingers, so I'm looking for a daintier more delicate setting. I'm trying to figure out a setting that would look good with a cushion cut. I originally wanted a halo ring, but my boyfriend isn't a big fan of halos. I want to make sure he loves the ring also.

Here is one setting from JA that I liked:
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/basket-set-Engagement-Ring.html

Not sure if that would look okay with a cushion.

Do you guys have any other ideas?

Additionally, he's most likely purchasing online, so we've been looking at WF, JA and Eternity Diamonds. Any other suggestions are welcomed! Budget is about $10,000.

Thanks!

I also forgot to mention. I also love the way a pave looks, but we're afraid the stones will fall out. Although, it's a pretty inexpensive repair, we don't want to have it happen frequently (I think I'd be sad if the stones kept falling out).

thanks again!

JA has a picture of that ring with a 1 carat cushion (on the right under recently purchased).

if you are interested in a cushion I highly recommend this video which explains the different types of cushions

Honesty, I dont see that setting complementing a cushion cut all that well. I'll post some that *I* like.

These from JA

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/sold/settings-with-sidestones/1040/Diamond-Rings-With-Side-Stones.html - I like
this one better than the 4 stone but still like the other 2 settings better

Are you looking anywhere other than JA?

tyty: I love the first two you posted. I actually like the way those two settings look. I think the one I posted looks great with a round, but I'm not sure about the cushion. JA isn't the only one I've been checking out. I've also been looking at GOG, Eternity Diamonds, WF, ERD, etc etc. I'm now leaning towards picking out a smaller August Vintage or ERD vintage cushion (approx 1 carat) versus going for a bigger modern (thanks to the video I just watched!).

It's a good thing we still have awhile because I'm being so indecisive. I love the way a pave and halo setting look with a cushion cut, but once again, we're afraid of losing stones. I don't do a lot of manual labor, but we'd be sad if we had to keep taking the ring in for repair. Does anyone know if the pave and halo settings by ERD and GOG are quality?

Thanks again.

I think it will work with a cushion actually. But it's not my favorite head for a cushion. Here it is set with a princess, I think a cushion will look even better. See what you think of it set with a princess... http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/sold/settings-with-sidestones/2255/Diamond-Rings-With-Side-Stones.html

Thanks for the replies!
I searched through for some solitaire cushion settings because that is what my bf ultimately wants to get. He gave a cute little reason for it, so I decided to give the solitaire a try.

I love this setting my JBEG. Does anyone know anything about JBEG? I just came across the site. I love how delicate and thin the band looks against the cushion.

I have a 1.43ct August Vintage cushion that I had set by JbEG http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.c...litaire-AVC/16552060_Yp78i#1273172770_QvCJnHV

My husband also was not a fan of a halo, but I liked it, so this is kind of a compromise as the "halo" is on the side :naughty:

I love this setting - it is dainty in appearance, but very well made and I'm very happy with it. I like how the shank is a combo of a straight shank and a split shank; definitely makes the diamond look larger than the plain solitaire setting it was in before.

JbEG did a great job, and I would definitely recommend them. Hope that helps!

The Julia solitaire is beautiful! ecf8503: Is that your ring? That is basically my ideal size/style for diamond. Do you mind telling me the clarity and color of your ring? Absolutely love it!!! Also, love the compromise by having a halo on the side

Yes it's mine - and thank you!

It's a 1.43ct G SI1 August Vintage Cushion from Good Old old (who are wonderful, btw!) in a platinum setting from JbEG using single-cut melee in the "halo".

Here is a link to the original photo thread I have on it, with a link in it to photos of it in it's original solitaire setting for comparison. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/a-match-made-in-heaven-avc-and-jbeg.160298/

I attached a few pics I haven't posted before below -

I am seriously loving the solitaire settings by JBEG! I contacted Grace. Thanks Farmer Gal for the recommendation. Even if I don't get the 1.87, I would love one of their settings
