Selecting out pearls

I am considering buying a rope and picking out about 1/2 or 1/3 of the darkest pearls to make into a necklace. I realize this would require the strand to be restrung (and knotted). Has anyone done this?

I decided not to go for it.

Seems like a complicated way of going about it. Why not simply buy loose strands of the pearls you want?

I agree. At this time strands with the color I want are not available; only mixed colored strands are available. I will put myself on the HK buying list somewhere if I still feel the need for these later.

A poster here bought an inexpensive strand of Akoyas on eBay, selected out the pearls with the worst flaws, and used the better pearls to make a necklace. I think this only works if one is craft-y and strings their own pearls.

Thanks, Ennui.

Thanks, 4Ranch Girl. I didn't know about Pattye! You have the most wonderful pearl collection and it's so generous of you to share it on PS.

Thank you pregcurious. My pearls make me happy. I wear them for me and wouldn't feel dressed with out them.
