My husband and I just recently purchased a new stone and setting from James Allen. But now I am second guessing the table and depth. I want the spread to look good and want the most bang for my buck. Did we make a mistake based on gia report? Our budget was 11000 for setting and stone, I need platinum because I develop an allergy to the alloys in gold after time. We spent 8450 on the diamond. we also wanted to get setting and stone from same place to make things easier. I'm wondering if there are better choices out there

Well, if you like it that is what counts. It looks good in the images if you are comfortable with the tint in a J. It has a larger table than most people here recommend, but that will mean more brightness than fire, which is fine if that is what you like. Did you get an ASET or idealscope image for this stone?

It scores 2.3 on the HCA screener, which is very good, worth buying if the price is right. I recommend a score of excellent. Yours got very good on light return, fire, and scintillation, and excellent for spread (diameter). We generally see the opposite with ideal cut stones, excellent for light return, fire, and scintillation, and very good for spread. You are giving up some performance for a very slight bit of extra diameter. Most ideal cut 1.5 ct stones will be close to 7.4mm.

These are measurements that I use on GIA XXX stones to get into ideal cut territory and have a good balance of brightness and fire:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0

pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0

We didn't get an ideal scope or aset. We had been looking for weeks and I couldn't make up my mind and it came to the point where my husband was like make a decision. My ring should arrive tomorrow so I guess we will see. I guess now I am just wondering if what we paid is too much for what we got. My husband didn't want to go too low with clarity even though I wanted the largest stone I could get that still looked great. I just don't want to buy a 1.5 and it doesn't look like a 1.5!

You'll have to let us know what you think. I* would have dropped the clarity and upped the color. It should look every bit a 1.5.

You have to let us know what you think tomorrow when you get the ring on the finger. 60/60 stones are a different flavor so it's up to you to decide whether it works for you. It'll definitely look like a 1.5 ct.

just got it in.I love the center stone but not sure of setting, I feel like it detracts from center stone. I'm trying to figure out how to post a picture!

Hopefully pic shows up!

Glad you like the stone. The setting is very intricate with lots of details and it gives a lot of finger coverage. I think you should live with it for few days to see if it works for you. JA has a great return policy in any case.
