Hi there.

The original plan or repurposing an old family diamond for my ring doesn’t seem to be in the cards. I found this one while looking through old posts and love it. Any help finding something similar in the sub $3000 range and with good spread, hopefully close to a carat?

I also like the look of this. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.40-carat-k-color-si1-clarity-sku-3112090

Thank you

@ac117 @tyty333 Any help would be greatly appreciated. I respect your eye for beautiful cushions, thank you in advance :)

Brilliantly Engaged has a very nice cushion. I'm not sure if they have others, not in their website, but these have strong ASET.

Here are a few true antiques that are GIA graded.

Thank you

If you are alright with the Ks color, please go for that stone. My SIL actually had placed an order for that same diamond when she decided that she wants "whiter", but it is an amazing diamond! Such an clean SI1 as well! I knew that as soon as she gave up on it someone else will snatch it in a second. Here is the ASET for it (gorgeous!)

+1 to the K! Didn't realize it was available again. Gorgeous.

Here are the ones I have requested asets for:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.02-carat-h-color-si2-clarity-sku-3272595 This faces up 20% larger than the pretty .91

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.91-carat-i-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-3410542 This is beautiful but worry about face up size

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.03-carat-j-color-vs2-clarity-sku-3410564

Which do you think?

The setting will either be this or something similar from IDJ. Would IDJ be able to beat James Allen prices on stones?

Thanks in advance

The 1.03 J VS2 and the 0.91 I VVS1 look promising. I did see the 1.02 H SI2 - I think that it will have good light return in the center and not so great around the edges.

I would call IDJ and see if they can source you any of these stones and for how much. They have access to some affordable settings, so it is possible for them to beat the price, but you will need to speak with them.

Besides elongated, are there any other requirements?

My tolerance is to about a j/k, it will be set in a halo, so I think I am fine with going as low as that. I really like the 1.1/J you posted, which would be the upper price range. We just purchased a new house and have a 2-week trip planned so this is taking the backseat at the moment

Thanks for your help @ac1117

Thank you...That is what i figured, but I worry about its size. Do you think that would look really small on a size 5.25 finger with a halo? Halo similar to what your sister was looking at?

I think that it will look lovely. I have a size 5.25 and my first e-ring was a 0.7ct RB in a vintage art deco halo type setting. Also, I recently helped a friend with an e-ring for a dear friend of mine. He ended up picking a cushion at just under .9ct and set it in a halo. I will try to find a pic to share.
I would pick the best performing cushion, I know that you indicated that you want an elongated shape, but I am not loving the light leakage and weaker performance around the edges. I find that diamonds which have light leakage around the edges tend to appear "smaller" and are just really not as bright and fiery. It is your decision in the end though. What is the total budget for a setting + diamond?

Really wanted to be under $4k all in :) Life is getting in the way.

You can definitely achieve that with the 0.91 I VVS1. Do you plan on getting the setting from JA as well? Also, ask for their advantage pricing. If they do not offer it, make sure you get the $100 discount off your first order.

I am debating between JA or having IDJ handle this. Not sure which would be most economical.

You will probably get more flexibility with JA at this time because even their halo settings are returnable. However, it is worth giving IDJ a call and seeing if they can beat the price. I would also make sure to discuss your future upgrade options, in case you ever want to take advantage of that.

Maybe get a lesser costing halo for now (https://www.jamesallen.com/engageme...ond-engagement-ring-cushion-center-item-17449). Save your pennies and then upgrade your setting. This is a pretty setting that does not overwhelm the center stone. You save money since there is not pave on the shank and it will also be durable as a result. Just get a blingy band if you want more sparkle. I actually prefer a plain shank with a halo. Even in platinum, it is only $1230 which is less than the other halos on JA.

Maybe these will help (not me!)
Size 5, 1 carat round (so ~6.4 mm)
