Hey All,

So I finally have met with David Klass to get a few designs and it's about time to look for the stone! I am looking for a round brilliant between 1.1 to 1.2ct and will try and stick with at minimum H/Si1 and most definitely eye clean.. I found a few below and would love if anyone could give me there input.. If none are "worthy" please be honest and let me know - I don't mind holding tight for a little bit longer. I will request ASET/etc once I have narrowed it down to 2-3 stones. If there are any missing details, please let me know and I will answer as best as I can - hope I don't get my stone hijacked if there's one here for me! If anyone sees any other stones elsewhere that are worth having a look at, please let me know.

Edit -- Trying to stay under $7000 for the stone (lower the better obviously..) and the larger the stone the better too! So I don't mind sacrificing if it's a good trade off.

All of them have problems. Most of them are not eyeclean. They have either visible black inclusions on the table or haziness and transparency issues from white/clear/cloud inclusions. The ones that aren't have cut problems. HCA isn't enough.

Stick to the following guidelines:
Table: 60 or less.
Depth: 62.3 to 59
Crown: 33.5-35
Pavilion: 40.6-40.9

HCA is not enough.

Apologies I did not have a backstory here.. and Gypsy thanks for replying so late - I was hoping you or one of the other vets would see this :) ! (it's 11:15pm here)

The stone is for my girlfriend who I have been with for 11 years now since high school. I am planning to propose before the end of the year. We have looked at both the round brilliants and cushion cuts but she seems to always go back to the round brilliant diamonds.

Ahhhh dangit.. I guess I may have to wait a bit longer until something else comes up? I've been scouring the JamesAllen site for a few weeks now but have not seen much pop up that seems all that great..

Thanks Gypsy! I'll restart my search. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. I will probably look in the lower end of the carat range and see if I can find anything.

Haha thanks Gypsy - yes please. I'm not in a rush but would definitely want to hop on something if it's worthy. If there's nothing, no worries! :D

Thank you for this.. I'll inquire about the one you mentioned that you'd jump on. I notice that at least one of the recommendations has strong fluorescence, should I be concerned about it? Also, I was pretty set on an H but is it safe to say that "normal" people can't usually tell the difference between and H and I color? I will probably reach out to b2c regarding the others to find out whether those are eye clean. I've called JamesAllen before which was pretty straight forward with regards to inspecting stones - hopefully it's the same at b2c.

H is safer. But I is very white as long as the cut is good. If you are worried about it put it in a setting that covers most of the profile of the stone (that's where you will see the color).

I like the H VS stone. It's a very nice stone.

How do you want to set it.

I am attempting to put the one you recommended on hold while I wait for responses on whether some of the others are eye clean or not.

I am getting two designs tomorrow from David Klass, one will be similar to the Lepozzi (LaurenB) but shoulders pulled in more and the other will be similar to the VC Jocelyn but without the milgrain.

http://www.laurenbjewelry.com/lepozzi-3-01-ct-round-diamond-platinum-engagement-ring-4292.html

As for the 1.25 H/Si1 for $6791 - if this is eye clean would you go with this over your initial choice? Are there any that you would choose over the one you recommended if the others are eye clean? I do notice that all of these have pretty good HCA scores so the dimensions and such you gave me were right on point. Thanks again!

EDIT: My girlfriend works in the medical field and deals with patients all day, so i'm not sure the design will be "practical" but it's what she wants .. I was told that the Lepozzi might be more sturdy due to the shoulders/cathedral? Thoughts?

Yikes, she works in the medical field?

Yeah, that's not practical at all. Fortunately, there is a fairly easy solution. Buy her a nice chain and she can wear the ring on the chain when she is at work.

She won't be able to wear it at work otherwise.

I personally wouldn't get that design. She won't be able to wear a band next to it.

Did she specifically pick that design? Or is that the one you picked based on her preferences?

Regarding the stones. The price difference is 200 bucks. I'd rather have the higher clarity, personally.

Makes sense.. David did mention adjusting both of the designs a bit to make it so that the bands could be flush so there might be a workaround. It's actually two designs that she decided on. I'm not sure any setting would be good for someone in the medical field so it doesn't leave too many options. I'm contemplating bringing it up with her but will ultimately get her what she would love the most.

Gypsy or anyone else - would you mind checking to see if there are 2-3 stones in the 1.1-1.5ct range you'd recommend? (or anything that stands out) She's a small girl (under 5ft) so If I get a stone too big it might end up looking gaudy on her(she has mentioned this before) .. She honestly could care less the size of the stone - I think that is more "my" preference. Trying to convince myself that the bigger stone is always good but i'm not sure that's the case - especially if she's working in the medical field and may have to wear gloves over the ring, etc..

EDIT: she still wears the promise ring I got for her about six years ago which is a half carat solitaire - she just wears the gloves over it. Never really complained about it inconveniencing her, but the new stone will be larger so i'm not quite sure.

there was a recent post (still on the first page) and the OP was purchasing an e-ring for his GF that is going in the medical field. Several nurses chimed in that most larger stones are going to rip gloves and not practical to wear at work and another chimed in about many hospitals moving to not allowing rings at all. I like the idea of a nice necklace to wear and put her ring on. You can find necklaces specifically made so you don't have to take off the necklace to put the ring on it.

WOW Farrahlyn! When Gypsy mentioned a nice chain I thought it was a regular "nice" gold chain or something. I did not realize they made something specifically for putting a ring on. Thank you for sending the links over - I will definitely have to get one of these.. :)

b2c sent some updated photos of four different ones I requested. All of them have the H&A images with the exception of the one that Gypsy recommended which is: http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-8702056-1.19-carat-Round-diamond-H-color-VS1-Clarity.aspx?sku=8702056&utm_source=pricescope.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pricescope.com

I'm assuming this one isn't eye clean due to that scuff on the mid-right center.. Will post the others I received in next reply

Next one,

1.23 I/VVSI 8702643 this one seems like it's eye clean but I color. According to b2c inspector this stone is a true I color with no warmth so it's "as good as an H" and also VVS1. 100% eye clean.

hearts and arrows images aren't helpful. ASETs or Idealscopes would have been. But those are safe enough to buy without it.

Pick one. I think you are good to go!

This is what they responded to me from B2C via email:

Our first recommendation would be stock # 8702643, Our gemologist observed that this diamond is a true I color with no warmth in it so color wise its as good as an H, being VVS1, needless to say that this diamond is 100% eyeclean so this is another plus point in the diamond. with regards to price, this diamond offers great value for money and is the lowest priced diamond amongst the rest.

In the SI1 range, Stock # 8688308 is another good pick and worth considering. As per our gemologist, this diamond is a better SI1 as the inclusion is not visible to naked eye, excellent luster and brilliance and the price is just about right.

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-8702643-1.23-carat-Round-diamond-I-color-VVS1-clarity.aspx
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-8688308-1.25-carat-Round-diamond-H-color-SI1-clarity.aspx - gemologist says it's eye clean but the cloud/crystal in the center makes me nervous. Then again, the gemologist isn't going to lie right..

Stock # 8702643 & 8688308 is highly recommended for purchase.

I would respond and say, "please confirm that the diamond has been examined and the cloud is not causing any haziness or transparency issues." About the H. If so, get it. Take it to a Hearts on Fire dealer Compare it with their stones. Make sure you see no haze.

This one is an odd duck: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.12-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-682800 All the numbers are great. It looks fantastic. Has excellent polish and symmetry. But is for some reason a VG cut??? It SHOULD be an excellent, but all indications. I don't understand it. But it's a nice stone and a great price. I'd put this one on hold and ask for an ASET or idealscope.

If eyeclean and there is no issue with clouds and transparency:

That's one of those subjects that bored me to tears. There are a ton of threads on here that have covered the subject in minute detail. Use the search function at the top of the screen to pull them up, and read through the information posted. Make up your own mind.
