Search for biggest OEC for 10k

All - I have had such a hectic week I’ve found it hard to thoughtfully respond, will be writing back tonight after work.

I sent back the diamond I had. I couldn’t get over the dark center.

I realize there will be compromises, and that is ok, now on to figure out wha compromises I can handle: I’ve figured out if I had to choose either or, I’d prefer a less lively but still beautiful diamond to a diamond with darkness in the center. I couldn’t get past the nail head effect!

I don’t mind if it takes a long time to find the right one, or a couple returns. I have no regrets about sending the larger stone back, so I’m sure it was not the right one for me.

Here’s another option, what are your thoughts on it? Do you all think this stone might have a better center than the one I had? It’s super similar, but uncerted.

Rita had a really lovely L/SI2 9mm for almost 3ct for $10k but I was too slow!

I just came on here to send you this!

I personally like this a lot, i like the faceting way better than the one I actually bought. It's got longer thinner coffins (LOL) ok, fine, petals... Yes, several turn off at once, but that said I personally dont mind, and actually prefer that. I mean, you're going to like what you like. Does she allow returns??

Oh, shoot, sorry, that was me... I thought you were looking for bigger?!?!

Is it really 9mm?? I didnt ask her anything, i just DMed her "Ill take it" at 630am

I inquired on that one too but then I had to put my kids to bed and missed it. It is indeed 9mm. Not certified though.

Loveeee that you got that one!!! I DO want bigger, so I’m not sad about missing it, but I was like dang, what a deal! I hope it’s fabulous. It feels great that someone I “know” will have it, if that makes sense?

And yeah she told me it was 9mm!

Yes this one is very promising. The central petals are the right shape, table a little larger than the last. A classic later OEC. Nice optical symmetry. The petals dance nicely.

But is 9 mm big enough for you now?

Lol no, you’re so right. 9+

I’m waiting to hear back from Rita on if I could get a few days for review this stone or not. Her policy is final sale, and I really like it but I would feel better about having at least a couple days for review.

I don’t recommend risking final sale for this purchase, for you.

Yes. Another video was posted, it’s beautiful. Rita estimated it was 62.5% depth, it’s 9.7mm.

I thought the one I returned looked great in photos/videos too, so I’m reluctant to risk final sale. However, it does have a coffins instead of pies, prettier cut, as pointed out by you and Inked. Seems lively. Excellent price.

Some people can take a risk like that and just live what they have or sell it and eat the loss if they don’t want it. Others would be angry about it and it would taint their enjoyment and it would cause them unending stress. Only you know which you fall into!

I think the stone has a lively make but without a lab report there is still guess work and. As you said, things look different in person. I personally would keep looking t but again, your tolerance for risk may be higher than mine!

Why are they still cut too short in modern attempts to create antique flavours? Partly because the big pavilion mains is really distinctive of antique cuts. It’s such a huge part of their flavour. And maybe because most modern cut antique styles — and here I don’t mean the boutique versions that cost a lot where designers invested in developing great antique style cuts, I mean the generic ones sold for a pittance and mass produced — are not cut by masters of old style cutting. They are going for fast and easy ways of making a chunkier cut and from what I can tell it means taking an MRB and just shortening the lgf. The really nice examples we’ve seen, like custom cuts people have done or some examples from Park or others, cost more bc they are taking time to cut a nicely proportioned stone.

That’s my take, anyway.

Yeah it seems like some cutters are just going for “chonk facets + culet = antique.” IMHO some of those bargain stones might be just fine for a setting where you only see the top view. But if you want poofiness and lively facets then it takes a little more effort.

Same — Solid dark centers just take away the joy of diamonds for me. But a little light loss is ok.

I'm not sure if you know this but another vendor might be able to pull the same stone for you and they may have different pricing and return policies. My HG stone was first advertised by Dolly, then Rita had it but I requested if 88 Star could source it for me. As I was overseas there's no return policy but I needed a vendor that I could trust that didn't feel like a business transaction.

I suspect the price is higher than your budget but this is a glorious diamond.

That’s twice now we’ve seen the dream stones that fit the parameters coming in at ~28k. It’s good to know I guess in terms of setting realistic goals.

Faceted girdle, so it’s had some clean up.
