hi, everyone.

i have a question, can the girdle of the diamond be scratched by the prongs? or is the surface so hard that it is not possible? Or must it take some "really hard" friction to be scratched?

The diamond is much harder than the platinum or gold prongs, and you don't have to worry about them scratching the girdle.

because i was looking at the diamond through a loupe.. and i saw .. is it called faucets? well, I saw different edges around the girdle and was concerned that the metal could damage the edges.. because after i read a post the other day about diamond loose in setting.. i tried to turn the diamond.. and tho my stone was set pretty tight.. it moved a little bit.. and i'm afraid i applied too much force.. so when the diamond turned inside the prongs.. i thought maybe i might have caused some damage.

But thank you for the reply rich!!

Carmen,
Could wnat you have seen been graining on the diamond? I believe that this is a natural occurance in diamonds, very much like the grain in wood. When a diamond is cut it is also polished, but if there is this grain, I believe that there isn't much to be done about this. I think I have seen this a number of times as I've viewed diamonds online. Diamond experts, am I wrong about this? Just a thought...
