I damaged my very newly acquired engagement ring''s band. Dented the gold on one side, and did some deep scratches on the other. It is worse than it looks in the pic.

Do you think it can be polished out a bit? or put in the ultra sonic? It is such a downer as it was a rush to get the ring, before leaving to go back overseas, now I am in Singapore, I don''t know any jewellers here- don''t trust them either! If it requires more gold to be fixed that would be a problem here too as everything is white gold or 22-24k.

One more question, the diamond was bought on a rush and I didn''t have time to get educated about it all. I am mostly interested in the quality of the cut. Here are the specs, what do you think?

Princess, 70pts, width 4.82, length 4.77mm depth 3.63mm depth % 75.3. Table% 79.7. Crown angle 44.1 pav angle 59.5

Hi there,

Both my DH and I have scratched our wedding bands heavily as well as broken them (not sure how we did that, probably from the our weight-lifting). I''d try the jewelery store on the ground floor at the Marriot''s. They did a very good job on ours.

If you don''t have any joy, let me know. I have another place you can go to.

Depends on the scratch/dent/ding. My solitare platinum setting got dinged and it couldn''t be polished out so I had to replace my setting. It was covered by my insurance though.

wow, dunno how you did that!! but since it looks lie it''s on the bottom, I''d just leave it and consider it part of the charm!

Is it just at trick of the lighting or does your band look hollowed out in the inside. If that is the case that may be why it has dented.

Looking again I think it is a shadow I was thinking was the hollowed part, sorry.

It''s actually on the side. The band is not at all hollow, quite a broad band and very heavy that I am not used to it, and it is the band that seems to catch on things not the setting. Today I scratched it some more- but superficially that can be poished out. I really don''t want to admit to my fiance that I have already damaged the ring I just got! grrrrr I guess I will ask at the jeweller at the Marriot. Lien you don''t happen know if one of the ones in Holland V might be OK, as I am in the West?

I wouln''t go to one of the ones in Holland V, I am not very impressed with their service. Do try the one at the Marriott''s, there is another one in Lucky Plaza, I forget the unit number, but ring 6737 6676 and ask for Collin and mention that I recommended him. They''re both very reasonable and their service is great. Good luck!

There is another one located on the 3rd floor at Shaw Centre (Isetan), called Franklyn Jewelery. They''re a bit more pricey and the owner (Franklyn) goes on a bit!

but he really is a nice fella. You''d need to ask them what they can do and judge for yourself who you''d be most comfortable with. They''re all pretty good at polishing wedding bands (though I wouldn''t recommend them for anything complicated like setting diamonds into a pave setting or halo setting or anything llike that, their work is just not refined enough for intricate work but for wedding bands, they should be ok).

Incidentally, you''re going to have to leave your ring with them for a couple of days (don''t forget to ask for a receipt), how are you going to explain that to your fiance (you mentioned you don''t want to tell him)? Just wondering...

Wow! thank you so much Lien! I didn''t expect anyone living in SG to be reading my plea. Glad you told me about HV as that was where I would have headed.

Just on a note about Singapore, do you think or know whether the coloured loose gems for sale here seem to be way over priced? I was looking at a peridot- no idea of size but it was several hundred, I swear a peridot in Aus might only be about $100. I guess I will stick with finding my own sapphires back in Aus.

Cheekyprincess,

It's my pleasure to be able to share some ideas with you. I have to say I enjoy PS tremendously! There is great camaraderie and it's so great to be able to share our common interest (ie. diamonds and more diamonds!!

). And I am particularly happy to be able to talk to fellow Singaporeans and PRs!

I am afraid I don't know much abt coloured gemstones, though I have to say this: Most stores and so-called dealers here do mark up their stuff hugely, be they diamonds, pearls, jade or anything else. That is my personal experience. I know of some places where you can buy them at more competitive prices but it is against the rules of PS to mention any names. I would stick to the internet and buying directly from the source. Your idea to go back to Oz to buy yr stone is a good idea, unless some other PS'ers know of any place online you can help Cheekyprincess with.

By finding, I meant literally

we get to do that there! Lucky us! Sapphires, garnets, gold and opals are all laying around for the taking, if you know where to look!

Sorry- I didn''t realise the PS rules (yeah it was probably one of those I agree boxes I ticked last night when signing up).

Yeah, I think it is one of the rules...Sorry...but I think Oz is a great place for such stones anyway.

Btw, congratulations on yr recent engagement!

Oh, I know I keep mentioning my DH and my wedding ring bands, but the work a jeweler would do on yr engagement ring would be the same, or at least similar.
