Well, if it needs a good home.... I have an ocatagonal barion cut blue spinel...

It''s a pretty stone, sorry it didn''t work out! Little matches the brilliance of spinels.
i agree, i am officially a spinel girl. i''ve been hounding dan and some others, but they just don''t have anything that matches what i need.

so, be on the lookout, ladies!

~7mm, light pink or light blue, round or cushion spinel.
Sorry that tourmaline didn''t work out Karee, but I completely understand. I''ve never had a spinel, so I''m dying to try one too. Hope you find a gorgeous one soon!

Karee, take a look at mastercutgems.com, he has a few that may be what you''re looking for. His cuts are nice IRL, but taking pictures isn''t his strong point. Dana who runs the store is super nice.

Here are the two pinks I found (he has some blue/lavender ones as well):

thanks! i don''t think i''ve ever checked that site, but i''m off to do so now!

Very pretty stone!

Hey karee, I know you just sold that tourmaline (congrats - that was fast!), but I was wondering what you thought of that paradise brilliant cut. Did you like it better than a standard RB? And did you have less tilt window? Sorry to ask after the fact - I should have asked when you actually had the stone!

Oh, I''m sorry it didn''t turn out... be patient, there is a stone out there for you!!

yeah, a guy emailed me FOUR minutes after i posted it! apparently he saw it on barry''s site and loved it, and was sad when he clicked and it was sold.

honestly, the cut is very nice, but i think the tilt window was more noticeable with this cut than a standard round cut. i have several of barry''s round cuts and none of them have a tilt window, but this one did. it also might be due to it being lighter in color, maybe? not sure.

at any rate, it was gorgeous and super sparkly...but i could not justify keeping it [the price, how else would i set it, etc.] when i decided that i would rather use a spinel. hopefully dan or someone else can come through! :)

Wow, 4 minutes!!

gorgeous pink colors!!!!!!!

DANG! I saw it up there and it was already sold....

Well, I hope you find what you''re looking for Karee!!!!

The tilt window in that particular cut was probably due to the fact that it is lighter in tone, and it's RI. Tourmalines are lower RI and will always have some tilt window, which you may not see on a garnet or a spinel. The tilt window on a darker tourmaline will be there, but probably not as noticable. Now if you see a significant tilt window on a garnet or a spinel, that's just less proficient precision cutting or a poor native cut. A tilt window can be minimized on a low RI stone, but it will always be there. Likewise, a bad tilt window is much worse in a low RI stone than a higher RI one.

Sorry the stone did not work out for you. However, it's always best not to keep something you don't plan on using for a piece of jewelry or enjoying in your collection. Good luck in finding a better stone for your project.
