I am considering purchasing a 2.01 ct 8.00x8.03x4.93 depth 61.5 and 60 table..can i expect the crown and pavilion to be on target ...i am told this is a premium cut but have not seen the egl yet..what''s your take? I would like to compare against the sarin data.

Once a diamond is not in the ideal cut range, it is just another diamond. It may look okay, but it will not be all the way on top of the heap. I personally like the compromise situation with some diamonds. By going to a regular cut you can save some big bucks and still get the color and clarity range you wanted.

Be sure the EGL grades are realistic ones......You are paying by the grading, but the grading needs to be accurate.
Read some of the many threads on this exact subject in the pricescope files....

Seems to me that the quality of the cut should be placed first followed by color and clarity. If you have a standard cut stone, it wont be as pretty or firey as a stone of better color and clarity. No?

You may find this comparison (LINK) among labs' cut standards interesting. EGL seems to score pretty well - but only the top cut grades are taken into account there. Only I do not refer to the harsh title on that page ("Flawed cut grading" that is) but to the informative table below

Not same question but similar...

If a GIA stone fits into AGS Ideal proportions...

Table Diameter: 52.4 - 57.5%
Crown Angle: 33.7 - 35.8°
Pavilion Angle: 40.16 - 41.25°
Girdle Thickness: Thin, Medium, Slightly Thick
Culet Size: None, Pointed, Very Small, Small, or Medium

... does that mean that it would be an AGS Ideal cut if sent to the lab or are there other factors (like the appearance through scopes or something).

If a Stone fits Ideal proportions but has Very Good or Good Polish/Symmetry is it still a AGS IDeal cut?

Not form AGS's point of view, obviously!

The two would look the same though, since the details that make the differece between those polish and symmetry grades are not visible without proper grading conditions.
