Your profile pic - is your dog a Havanese???

ImpatientOne- I know I'm not SarahB, but I have been wondering the same thing about the dog in her picture :)
I have three, yes three!! Havanese.
I love the little buggers like crazy!
When I chose my user name I had two Havanese, thus my user name 2Neezers (Neezers being a nick name for Havanese)
Do you have a Havanese?

Yes, I have a Havi and Sarah's dog sure does look like a Havi to me!!! Bailey is 1.5 years old now. Hubby and I have been married for 8 years next month, and we always swore we would never have any pets. Well, we went and stayed with friends who had a Havi. My husband made a comment that "if" we were to ever get a dog, it wold have to be something like our friends' dog. When the empty nest syndrome hit, I told him I wanted a puppy, lol. I love these little dogs  :appl: I would love to get another, a companion for Bailey, but at this point hubby says no way. Still working on !!!

Oh my Impatientone & 2Neezers!! A gal whose kids went to the same school ours did, had a Havenese, & I thought he was sooo cute!! He always sat in her lap in the pickup line. What a cutie & such soft hair.

Our pups are at the breeders right now, as I recover from this hip--she has about 20 puppies, & hubs took pictures, are they ever cute!! I'll post the puppy pics below.

The breeders Name is Jennifer Peterson. She calls them Daisy Dogs, & they are a mix of poodle, bichon fries, lhapsa apso & a fourth she won't reveal. They are non-allergic, don't shed, & are bundles of sweetness--just like I imagine a havanese :). These Daisys are the perfect household dog for any family with or without children, they are not aggressive & just kind caring snuggly little things. I grew up with poodles, who are very smart, & these Daisys, altho not as smart as poodles are, are no slackers either. :) She ships the dogs everywhere & is quite a professional when it comes to her dogs. She breeds in sizes from 10lbish all the way up to 40ish. You have to bring in the entire family to interview to purchase a dog first, & during that time, she assesses what type of family you are, interests, activities, to best match the dog with the family. Once she feels confident of your profile, she then brings out a select group. Her dogs are very popular in my city, & in fact you see them everywhere. One family in my neighborhood, was denied a dog due to the fact that they both worked & no one would be home all day. In her purchase agreement, you have to accept that she is given the opportunity to buy the dog back if you don't want the dog, you cannot simply give the dog to someone else of your choosing. She is really a great person as well as a business woman, & has done a great job in her little exclusive niche.

Her farm & family is on a very large piece of property, & they have various buildings i.e. birthing building, kennel/office building, barn, they have horses, as well as a lake, so critters everywhere. I love to go there. I always tease that when I finish my real job, I'd like to volunteer as a pet friend. She likes the pups to have exposure early on. What a hoot that'd be!

We have 3, Jack (who is my baby) is in the avatar, & is about 10 years, & the smallest at about 18 pounds. King has the bandit face & is not too quick on the draw--maybe thats the Lhapso in him? (I've heard lhapso's can be not as 'quick'.) King is 13 going on 20. & then Pepsi (all black except for a few white toes), who is the grand madame. She's 15, & acts 10. They all get along well. We love them & they are like family, right now we're all going through withdrawal until we pick them up Sunday. :appl:

I just took my evening dose of pain med, so please excuse my misspellings, missing words & other such non-sense. My posts this week are rather embarrassing with all the missing words, mis-spelllings etc. :) I'll post some pic's below.a

2Neezers, I think we are in the same town, & if so I'm know you've seen a Daisy dog around somewhere, check out these pics & see what you think. First I'll post ours, then the pics hubby took last week.

Great pics, Sarah!!! I went to the website. I like the breeder---and I usually don't like breeders. I hate that dogs, like my darling Westies, have been ruined by greed and stupidity.

I like what I read about the Daisy Dogs. Good on you, you've got 3 to love!

They look like a larger version of a Havenese  So cute! My girl is only 11 lbs or so - pretty small. I like that I can take her on planes and put her under the seat in front of me. She is a great traveler. Your babies are beautiful!!!

ImpatientOne - your Bailey sounds adorable. It's wonderful that she is such a great traveler. My girls are a little bigger than Bailey at about 12.5 lbs. I'm sure Bailey would love a little Havanese brother or sister - if you can convince your husband it is a good idea :) I can't express how much my girls love each other. They play together all of the time and have a very special bond. It's a lot of fun to watch the way they interact with each other.

SarahB - You're a mom of three pups too! Your fur kids are so adorable and so photogenic.
Yes! I do know about Daisy dogs. My neighbors actually had one and it was the cutest little guy. They do look very similar to the Havanese. I have wondered if that is the mystery breed in Jennifer's mix that she won't disclose. In fact, our vet is over on Cascade, and there must be a lot of Daisy dogs in that area, because at least one person will ask us if our dogs are Daisy dogs every time we take the girls to the vet. When I tell them they are Havanese, they usually looked confused and say that they look like just like Daisy dog :) I have seen quite a few Daisy's in the waiting room at the vets office too, and they are always so cute and well behaved.
It is so nice that Jennifer is watching your pups while you recover. I love the picture of all of the puppies that you shared. I would have such a hard time not bringing every one of those puppies home. I hope your recovery is going well and that you feel better soon.

2Neezers & Impatientone: thank you for comments re our trio, quite a group. I bet yours have endeared themselves to your heart they way ours have here! I love the babies, 11a we pick up tomorrow, everyone is looking forward to it! :) Recovery is coming along fine. Today is a good day :) thank you for asking. :wavey:

2Neezers, I'll bet you coffee we go to the exact same vet--isn't that something?? Wonder if you were the gal whose dogs I remember from pickup at ACS? Now wouldn't that be astounding?!? Stay warm, more deep freeze headed our way next week, grrrr....

Oh Sarah, Your babies are such little cuties!!!! The picture of the puppies is just adorable. Like Kristie, I immediately went to the website.

Thank you Callie, they are so sweet!! We thought 2 would be it, but when we saw Jack, (he's the one in the avatar), he came home immediately. Hope you enjoyed your trip, & warm weather....oo la a! :wavey:

I want a Daisy Dog  and I'd love the breeder to actually match up us and the pupster!

Three dogs are no more trouble than 2, right?!?!?!

You are correct, 3 is just about the same as 2. However, my mothers 2 poodles, (medium sized) are approaching end of life. & the difficulties she is having with 1, who is deaf & blind, & the other who is not eating well. I am not looking forward to the end of life issues we will surely face here x 3. But they do bring a lot of joy & love into the home no doubt.

"When you love a dog, you make a contract with sorrow."

I'm not sure who authored that quote but it is so true. I'm thinking of it these days because my darling boy Finn the Westie, he had a near miss at Thanksgiving and he is 12 now. I love him so much. Our female, Maggie, is 7 and she has had 2 hip replacements and is on immunotherapy for allergies and we do all kinds of things with food and supplements and bathing and you name it. When she was 10 months old the vet told us to euthanize her because of congenital hip deformities---she was having a terrible time getting on her feet, running, etc. My hubs and I were destroyed by that advice and I got mad and started researching for hip replacement even though our internist vet told us they aren't done on small dogs. I found out they ARE done on small dogs, just be a small number of orthopedic surgeons. So we took Maggie to Houston twice from Arizona to get her all fixed up by Dr William Liska at Gulf Coast Veterinary Clinic. He does dogs from all over the world, there was a dog there from Finland when we had Maggie there.

Sarah, what is on the dog collars your cuties are wearing?

I look at the above Daisy Dog group pic in the snowy yard every day, it just makes me smile

Kristie, what a wonderful saying, will share it with my mom. Those poodles are her children, as dad has been gone for 13 yrs now, & those dogs are her everything.

What a caring family you are to go to another state for hip replacement 2 times!! How did Maggie do with recovery? & Finn, they are just like children aren't they. I hope Finn is recovering well, what a scare. Have you taken Maggie (with both replaced hips,) back to visit the original vet? Maybe Maggies experience will give him a different way of looking at the situation & advice for those facing something similiar.

The black boxes are the electronic fence receiver. & depending on what side is showing up, you'll either see the manufacturer info or our home address /phone number info.

All the dogs got home Sunday from the breeder--they were ecstatic when they got home. & Pepsi, the black one, cannot figure out why I am in this bedroom. She will not settle down, & has come & poked her head in the doorway countless times already today, bless her heart. Click click click on the hardwood floors, then peek--checking up on me.

Sarah, How happy you must be to have your babies back at home. It kills me to be away from our baby even for a few days. It's sounds like Pepsi is doing a very good job of keeping an eye on you. It must be a little confusing for her. The are such little creatures of habit.

Kristie, Your quote could not be more correct! My husband and I dread the thought of her not being with us. I already know I will be heartbroken beyond words.

Heehee, gotta love lil Pepsi, she's making sure her momma is doing everything right!!!

Sarah, after Maggie's hip replacements, I wrote the whole thing up and it was published in The Westie Foundation's monthly newsletter because when I called Maggie's breeder for help locating a surgeon and also the Westie Foundation, they had no help or information about hip replacements in Westies! It chilled me to think that people were euthanizing dogs that could be saved. So sad. The local Westie Club has 'excommunicated' me because I made public in the national newsletter a fact they want kept covered up: Small dogs, Westies included, DO have congenital hip malformations and they CAN be saved with hip replacement by these four US clinics. The sire of Maggie won Westminster for breed and is very famous---Handsome Highwayman---and I was told his owners were incredibly angry because they thought this could be a negative on the amount of money they charge for his inseminations. I just wanted Westie people to know that these dogs can be saved! And they didn't care one bit. This is why I frequently have been heard to say: I hate breeders. I was impressed by the breeder statement on the Daisy Dog site and no kidding, I would drive to Michigan if I wanted one so the breeder could meet us/approve us/match us.

I know, Callie, I try not to think about it too. ;(

SarahB - that would be an amazing coincidence if we go to the same vet. I'm not sure what ACS would stand for though, so maybe we do go to a different one... Ours is CHFA and is very popular in our area. I'm glad to hear your babies are back home with you. I love hearing the click click click sound of their nails running across the hardwood floors too. There's just something about that sound that is music to my ears.

azstonie - It is a very wonderful story to hear about what you have been through with your Westie. It sounds like you have given her a wonderful life.
We just brought home our third pup in December. Having three is not that much different than having two. The hardest part really is just having to house train the puppy, which would have to be done no matter how many dogs you have. How soon I forgot about the challenges of potty training! The only other thing I wish for is a third hand :) so I could pet all three of them at the same time when I come home and for giving them treats at the same time.

2Neezers, YES! We do go to the same vet!! Love CHFA--they are wonderful, the best.

RE ACS, I was referring to the lady who always had her Havanese in her lap at pick-up at the elementary school--ACS--our son attended. Now that would be a truly wild coincidence if that was you.....

Training a puppy again, oh my, best of luck--hopefully the other 2 can provide good behavior cues.

Here is Pepsi below on one of her check ins: I sent this pic to hubby today. I'm in the guest room & she just can't figure it out--I swear she came by 6-7-8 times today. :) Click click click, then this head appears around the door :)

Kristie--I'm so glad you shed light on this issue in spite of the negative feedback! Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking. I cannot begin to understand the levels people will stoop to in chasing the almighty $. So sorry you had to go through that unfortunate chapter. Wouldn't it have been such a breath of fresh air for them to applaud your effort & use Maggie as a shining example. Goodness, just about every breed has something--why they would ignore the obvious is beyond me, & then counsel owners to euthanize?? Wow. Thats fraudulent! I'll have to say, my experience with breeders extends to ours only, & she is the absolute best. Its totally transparent. She runs a very tight ship. ((Maggie)) is so fortunate to have you.

Calliecake!! Sister in NIRDI :) Yes it is nice to have them & all that goes along with it they are such sweeties! Thank you! :)

LOL: Mooooom, whaddya doing in *here?*

LOL....

or

'Did someone say CHEESE?!?...'

Oh Sarah, I LOVE that picture. Does she just stand in the doorway? She is probably trying to figure out what you are doing in that room.

Kristie, I can't believe the breeder told you to euthanize Maggie. I'm so glad Maggie has you for her mom?

Callie, yes--she just stands there for a few minutes peering in, I talk to her for a bit--then off she goes clicking down the hallway....LOL...bless her little heart--she does not come in. & this repeats many times over! Dogs are such characters aren't they... hope you have a good night! :wavey:

SarahB I can't believe we go to the same vet! They are the best. We take the girls there for grooming and to daycare occasionally too. If you see a lady there with three Havanese, two with cream fur and one with black fur, say "Hi".
Thanks for explaining what ACS was. That would have truly been a coincidence if I was the lady from your sons school. My fur kids are my only kids, so that wasn't me :).

Your Pepsi is too cute! She looks like she is really trying to figure out what is going on and make sure you are ok. Very sweet!

What a small world indeed, I will indeed look for the gal with the 3 Havanese :) Amazing we found each other on jewelry forum--what are the chances of that!?!

We take ours to a groomer I found on the Bulletin Board at FHF (of all places) :) she is a real pro, husband built a grooming station in the basement for her--she raised 5 children grooming dogs--lives in a beautiful piece of property on Hall off Cascade, really does a good job, CHFA did too! :) :wavey:

The vet told us to euthanize, saying there were no hip replacements for small dogs.

The breeder was very nervous when I called to tell her about the congenital hip dysplasia, I believe she didn't want to be held responsible---and I didn't until I found out she and another Arizona Westie breeder were using Maggie's sister as a canine ATM, many litters of puppies from a known hip deformed gene pool. I'm sure some heartbroken kids and owners received those puppies.

I'll take a sweet Daisy dog next!!!!

What a shame Kristie--integrity, it doesn't cost thing & so many are utterly bankrupt. You did right by chasing this one up the flagpole. Heartbroken families indeed. Wow---just wow. Glad Maggie has you!!
