not a really rare stone but when seen up close is facinating to see the rutile crystals within the stone with a gold like appearence...

Modern Jeweler mag had a really cool rutilated quartz featured in an article by David Federman. The needles all crossed together and formed a star like pattern. It was so cool. I wish I had a picture of it. Their website doesn't feature the same pictures as the magazine itself.

I''ve seen this kind of quartz used in Buddhist beads! They look really nice. The way I learned to tell value was by the number of crystal strands; the more strands, the higher the value.
