The Queen is wearing for the small aquamarine tiara for the first time time tonight at the reception for the Corps Diplomatique at Buckingham Palace! The tiara was previously worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II in Canada in 1970 (?) and then by the Countess of Wessex (now Duchess of Edinburgh) at a number of events since 2012.
Her Majesty finished off the look with her own set of aquamarine and diamond jewels and the King's family order.
Other than Their Majesties and the Prince of Wales, no other family members were present, as is traditional since the later years of the late Queen's reign.
Cam will be missing her royal engagement tonight as she’s still unwell from her recent chest infection.
@prince.of.preslav those portraits of the King and Queen of Spain took my breath away! What a gorgeous pair they make!
My wish is to one day see a lady (in real life) bedecked in as many jewels as Queen Ena or even Queen Mary and wearing them with the same confidence and panache!
Queen Maxima wears tons of jewels with confidence and panache!!!
Queen Maxima wears tons of jewels with confidence and panache!!!
But I haven't seen her in real life (yet)
The Queen of Spain is wearing Queen Ena's collet necklace (short version) and earrings in a new portrait by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz!
The necklace and earrings were originally a wedding present to Princess Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg in 1906 by her husband, King Alfonso XIII. The necklace (originally set with 30 diamond collets) has been extended and shortened over the years as tastes in jewellery changed. At lome point it was a most impressive sautoir reaching, until it was divided into two necklaces.
The portrait is part of a series of 3 pictures commissioned by the Banco de España (the Spanish National Bank) depicting the Royal couple and the former governor of the Bank.
The King is depicted wearing a gala uniform with orders and decoration.
I’m wondering if that collet necklace is sterling silver. The Queen of Spain’s portrait shows the metal to be bright white, but Sterling would be patinated. Just curious why they did that…it’s not usually done to antique collet settings.
The royal houses in Europe will end the year with a number of State Visits and glittering events (the Nobels) and the first two have commenced today in London and Brussels.
The British King and Queen are hosting the Emir of Qatar and his consort. Unfortunately, not a lot of royal ladies were present, but the ones in attendance made sure they sparkled!
I'll focus on Queen Camilla, until more images emerge.
HM debuted Queen Alexandra's diamond kokoshnik and also wore Queen Elizabeth II's City of London friend necklace. To this she also wore her modern diamond drop earrings and one of Queen Elizabeth's Cartier bracelets (the ruby one to match her belbed gown).
This is really quite wonderful. The enamel portrait is something that both my grandmother and great grandmother had done when they were children, in the latter half of the 19th C. But I see it’s still being done! (Although with diamond frame and embellishments for Royalty.) I wonder who is making these pieces still.
