Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a Round Brilliant H&A, but as I've mentioned in previous posts I'm quite new to this! I was wondering what ideal dimensions are for a 1 carat RB H&A. I was told by a jeweller that 1 carat diamonds come in many different dimensions (obviously), but I wasn't sure what is ideal, i.e. I don't want to compromise the diamond being too shallow in order to have a larger surface area, but I also do not want all the weight carried at the bottom of the diamond. Not sure if I'm making any sense, but hopefully someone out there understands and can help! The one I am looking at is 1.01 cararts 6.39-6.42 x 3.99mm. Is there anything else I need to consider? Any thoughts? Thank you!

If you are looking for an ideal cut diamond, (not necessarily Hearts and Arrows) below is a cheat sheet of what parameters you should stay within. Credit - Lorelei.

And to point out it is only a guideline.

depth - 60 - 62% - although my personal preference is to allow up to 62.4%
table - 54- 57%
crown angle - 34- 35 degrees
pavilion angle - 40.6- 41 degrees
girdle - avoid extremes, look for thin to slightly thick, thin to medium etc
polish and symmetry - very good and above

note - with crown and pavilion angles at the shallower ends ( CA 34- PA 40.6) and steeper ( CA 35- PA 41) check to make sure these angles complement in that particular diamond - eyeballs, Idealscope, trusted vendor input - check as appropriate!

the diameter looks a little small but may still be OK. is this a GIA graded stone? any pic of the hearts?

Hi,

Yes it is GIA graded with a Hearts & Arrows report. Unfortunately I do not have a picture :(
What would be a better measure for a 1 carat? Thank you!

OH WOW! Thank you!...I'm not really sure about the crown and pavilion angles- still need to learn about these but I will definitely research!

1 carat is generally 6.5mm when cut ideally.

no pic = no proof it is a H&A stone.

You need the GIA report number so we can look at all the numbers.
