Ronaldo is engaged - and gave his partner a big ol' rock

It does look better with the natural nails.
I think an elegant manicure complements beautiful diamond rings much better. But I still find the stone too big. I just don’t think it’s attractive. I like big emeralds, and I think she has a big emerald also. So does Lauren Sanchez, and I prefer her emerald over her oval also.

Excellent observations by @AllAboardTheBlingTrain and @purplesilk !
I too would prefer it as a solitaire and with more natural nails. And I actually think the slightly elongated oval shape is rather elegant!

It got me thinking… why is it that in general, we seem to find large CS more “acceptable” than large diamonds? Is it purely because diamonds flash brighter? Or is it because we attach a dollar value to diamonds and find it too showy for someone to wear something that costs so much?

For example, my 18*16mm jadeite cabochon is probably a similar size to Georgina’s oval but I don’t think people would react so strongly against its dimensions.

Yes, it’s not particularly practical to do chores around the house with it on, but I doubt celebs wear their 30ct rings 24/7 either…?

Hello, I don’t know what a CS is. If that is what the stone in your ring is, what I can say is that your ring probably has not been flashed around the world like Cristian Ronaldo‘s fiancée’s ring has been flashed around the world, so perhaps if as many people saw your ring as have seen hers, they might feel that you also have an enormous stone. As far as the fiancée’s ring, I don’t think it’s the cost that’s makes it “showy”. It’s the size.

I don't like when the stone is bigger than the proximal phalanx because it seems you can't bend your finger.
I think Georgina Rodriguez's e-ring would look wonderful if she wore it closer to the metacarpal (and if she had shorter nails).

Purely anecdotal but all my friends and my husband think my CS are too big

I think it’s just that a bunch us on the CS forum are happy to go up up up up and more up!!!

Mind you NONE of us have a 30carat plus Ruby. sapphire or emerald though so no one has tested that theory out on the forum yet! I don’t think any celebrity has been given a 30 carat sapphire engagement ring either.

You know I take back everything I said about her diamond being slightly too big. Bring it on!!!

I'm quite sure that the problem is her fake nails: IMO her e-ring would look not that tacky with short nude or short dark red nails.
[Excuse my naive attempt!!!:) ]

So true - the nails looked dreadful IMHO.

DK :confused2:

I just can’t bring myself to appreciate this diamond. I never thought I could not like a diamond, but I don’t like this diamond. Perhaps if I saw it in person I would feel differently. It must be stunning. But looking at it on the Internet, I just do not like it. I take all that back. It’s not the diamond I don’t like. It’s that it’s in a ring. I’m sure as a pendant it would be gorgeous.

After thinking about it, to my eye, it is the glitteriness. So I find a 4-5 carat step cut solitaire diamond more elegant than a 4-5 carat round brilliant or oval diamond, or a diamond with a halo. But tastes vary; not criticizing anybody else’s diamonds (including the lady with 30 carats).

Maybe it’s also that colored stone rings are larger in pop culture in movies/TV/cartoons than diamonds. I think of a colored stone ring as an heirloom, or a signet ring. There are some settings I want that look better with large stones so I will get them with CS.

I got a 4.5 carat lab diamond set in a halo just for occasional wear. Don’t laugh but I actually just got an 8.5 mm round spinel intended for more frequent wear and it still feels large!

I guess it is for each year she has been waiting.

CS shorthand for coloured stone ie any precious gemstone that isn’t a diamond :)

My cab is a jadeite

Another great observation! If it were closer to the palm, it wouldn’t look so disproportionately big

Hahaha I have been influenced by you, @mellowyellowgirl , I have been leaning towards bigger and bigger stones.

I think it’s because I don’t wear much jewellery regularly (two young kids at home) so when I do, I want them to be cocktail-esque!

Very true, large emerald cuts are indeed beautifully elegant! Out of interest, what cut is your 4.5ct lab?

A generic “crisscut” in cut cornered rectangle.

My apologies as I don’t know how to find the celebrity ring forum to post this there, but this is French Montana’s fiancée’s engagement ring. This is an example of a big stone that I like. I guess big emeralds just face up differently than big round, diamonds or big ovals. IMG_1322.jpeg

I think Georgina is enjoying her ring! I love the rose ring too!!!

IMG_2796.jpegIMG_2797.jpegIMG_2798.jpeg

Oh dear. Well, in addition to simply being really just gaudy-looking, her engagement ring is basically anticlimactic. If she had all that other stuff ready, what is the engagement ring adding to it?

I quite like the “more is more” look for evening - I think she is at an event in the first two photos judging by her dress and her choker. The two petal rings look like Pascale Bruno and the rose ring could be by Piaget but I’m not sure?

As for “balancing” the oval with the emerald cut with a black croc Birkin for daytime… why not! I actually think this look is quite elegant and, at a distance, her rings don’t look that big anymore.

DSS is real even at 30cts haha :lol-2:

Edit: the oval looks pink at those angles, is it reflecting the red carpet?

Probably yes, reflecting carpet. I like her other rings and I like the emerald, but I can’t make myself like the oval, try as I might.

@Pomelo I saw the emerald/oval combo and thought “Oooh what are my biggest rings so I can try the poor woman’s version of that!!!’ I’m such a “more is more” girl in real life!

I see the pink tint too. Looks like there might be some pink in the background?

Georgina captivated the audience wearing an exquisite Rosina high jewelry collier in 18k white gold, adorned with diamonds, rubies, and pink sapphires. She completed the look with a matching Rosina ring, delicate Giardini Segreti rings, and the dazzling Aleluia earrings in 18k white gold set with diamonds — all from the iconic Italian jewelry house Pasquale Bruni.

As over the top as they are, I like all the floral rings, and they all look nice together. (I do not like the choker.) Which makes that oval look even more ridiculous. That oval does not go with those other rings at all. I don’t like the way the oval looks on its own and I don’t like the way it looks with those other rings. I just don’t like that oval ring.

I'm not a fan of over-the-top-manicures, but wow, I love her jewelry, purses, and style. I love her engagement ring, think she wears it well.

I agree--she is a cutie and wears "stuff" well.
