Hi David,

I thought I would start a separate thread as I didn''t want to jack the other one. You are right, the term "RAD" is on the label which is on the plastic jacket to my GIA report. Inside the report it is called a round-cornered rectangular modified brilliant. I''m not sure what the cut really is though. When you look straight into it it looks like a crushed ice radiant but from other angles it looks like a cushion. Here is a straight on view.....

Let''s make this easy and simply call it GORGEOUS!
It really does look lovely.
That stone is a perfect example of how inadequate the names of the shapes are.

There are a lot of examples of this phenomenon- such as " What is an "Asscher Cut?"
That conversation would be different, as GIA has no shape called "Asscher Cut"
Nor do they have a shape called "Radiant"
But GIA does call stones "Cushion"- it certainly looks like a cushion to me!

I''m guessing the reason they did not use the "C" word

has to do with the facet pattern.
Likely it''s faceted just like a cut cornered rectangular modified brilliant ( a radiant) except with rounded corners.

I''ll call in to a buddy of mine over from GIA to see if we can find out the distinction.

Thanks David! When I initially saw it I thought it was a cushion but then when I saw that crushed ice look I thought radiant.

The reason the C name is not applied is because the shape is a ''straight edge with rounded corners''.
The straight edge part of the girdle is too long and doesnt curve until the corners.

Thanks DiaGem. So a cushion would have a shorter straight edge and more rounded sides as well as corners?

Wow catmom! That ring is stunning...I''ve never seen it up close before and its just breathtaking

Thanks DiaGem!!

Here's a stone GIA called a "Round Cornered Square Modified Brilliant"- which also shows what you are talking about....
But if I'm not mistaken there's no specific measurement to decide this- it's up the the person doing the grading- or have you heard differently?

Michelle, I absolutely love that ring of yours!! I never tire looking at it.
My cushion is listed on the cert as "Cushion Brilliant"
I have seen so many cushions with different descriptions, it is confusing for sure
(or was to me during my search)

Thanks so much bebe! Your cushion is gorgeous and is one of my favorites! I guess mine is unique and doesn''t fit really either a radiant or a cushion. I kinda like that.
