Hello all. Let me first say a big THANK YOU to the PS community for all of your sage wisdom. Everyone has been incredibly helpful and kind, and I am SO grateful for your guidance and advice! :appl: Also, I owe a special thank you to diamondseeker2006 and mrssalvo; you ladies are so kind and knowledgeable, and I hope that life brings you the very best. :appl: Well, I apologize in advance for the long post (I research and write for a living and cannot seem to help myself).

Initially, since I was very, VERY pleased with the savings offered by the secondary market (I purchased both the ER and WB from a private seller online at a very reasonable price), I created a thread in RT detailing my experience, if anyone is interested (see https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-secondary-market-experience.174708/). Although my experience with diamonds and jewelry shopping is not even a scintilla of the knowledge that the average PS’er has, I had thought it prudent to post my experience just in case it might be helpful to another newbie PS’er out there.

The proposal:
I rented for the weekend a charming, old log cabin, which was perfect for the occasion, as it was quaint, romantic, and most importantly, private. We are both rather private people, and I knew that my fiancée would want only the two of us present for the proposal, as it is a rather intimate moment. Accordingly, I made a fire in the stone fireplace and proposed to her right there (after, of course, fortifying my nerves with some “liquid courage”, a/k/a, cabernet). Also, I am not ashamed to say that, me being a bit emotional for a guy, I started to well up halfway through my little “speech” prior to popping the big question. She seemed to love it though, and she loved the ER!

The stone: .81 RB, AGS0 ideal cut, E color, VS1, 0.9 on the HCA, negligible fluorescence.

Although the below pictures don’t do a great job of showing this, the fire and light return on this stone is really impressive. I am SO happy that I went with an AGS0 (a big thanks to PS on that one)! As many here have said, it is really nice to have the reassurance of an AGS0 when buying sight-unseen! Also, the E color faces up incredibly white, which was very important to us.

I had initially wanted to get a larger RB (slightly over a carat) and buy it new. However, early into my ER search, we discovered that she was pregnant, thus making money even more of a consideration! :errrr: In any event, my fiancée had expressed that she was not too concerned about size (as she is not “blingy” whatsoever) and she would much rather have high clarity (VS2 or better), & very high color, as she is VERY color sensitive. Also, I of course used my knowledge gained from PS to stress to her the importance of cut (I can imagine that she was getting really tired of hearing me use the term “AGS0” all of the time.)

The setting & band: Platinum Ritani EL halo & matching platinum WB. I knew my fiancée liked the bezel halo style (which is really nice considering her active lifestyle) and I thought that, if I could find a nice setting within our budget (hence the secondary market search), it would be a great way to maximize finger coverage (she wanted a delicate setting and has rather small fingers – size 4.25). The E color center stone seems to mesh perfectly with the F-G melee, and it is nice how the center stone is higher in color than the icy-white, delicate one-pointers.

Well, I apologize about the lackluster pics, but here goes!

Aww, Cherokee, what a very happy story!!! :appl: Congratulations on the engagement AND a new baby!!! :appl: What a busy and happy time you are about to have! You did a terrific job with the diamond and setting, and it is gorgeous! Ritani is beautiful and expensive, so it was terrific you were able to find that set pre-owned! :appl:

I wish you a lifetime of happiness together! (You aren't by chance in NC are you? We have a Cherokee here.)

Thanks so much for your kind words, DS! It means a lot to me, honestly. =) I am certainly very fortunate at this special time in our lives, and I just need to remember to always count my blessings and never focus on the negative (or try not to, at least!) I was also very fortunate to find a wedding set at the right time that met all of our specs and more! I guess it was providence. Oh, and I am not located in NC. PA actually. NC sounds nice and warm to me right about now! Well, thanks again for your message, and congrats again on your 35th Anniversary and the beautiful new sapphire ring! :))

Oh wow, that is just gorgeous and looks fabulous on her hand!! How wonderful everything fell into place so well, including the ring size! Well done, and congrats on all of the wonderful things going on in your life! :appl:

Thank you, Cherokee! Very good advice to focus on blessings and to acknowledge where they come from! ;))

Oh my goodness, what en exciting time for you both!! The rings are absolutely stunning, and congratulations to you both on your engagement, AND the new baby!! Yippee!!!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl:

BEautiful ring and lovely story - you write very well, thank you for all the details!

It looks gorgeous on her hand!

Congratulations on the engagement and new baby - busy and exciting year ahead for you both!

Thank you both, dandAndi and Enerchi! It is certainly a very exciting time for us now and, to be honest, I am pretty glad to have the ER hunting behind me, so that I can now devote all of my attention to preparing the nursery for the arrival of our baby! My personality leads me to be singularly-driven, which is good when you want to get something done right the first time, but it can be bad in that other things can sometimes fall by the wayside until the project is done! It feels great though! Well thank you both again for your kind words =)

It is the perfect size on your hand!! So pretty~!!

Beautiful, congratulations!

What a lovely set! It looks beautiful on your hand. Congrats on your engagement :)

Congratulations! You have done a marvellous job with the ring. It looks just beautiful on her hand. Wishing you every joy with your upcoming marriage and - so exciting - precious new baby!

I was wondering when you were going to post pics for us, hehe.

I looks wonderful on your fiance's hand. To me, I love it even more because I know all the effort you put into getting the ring and making it right. I wish you two the best and congrats on the upcoming bundle of joy.

Such a great story Cherokee1979! I'm thrilled for you both! I also think it's great that the ring is bezeled...no sharp prongs or edges to scratch a baby on. :)) You did a fantastic job on both the ring and the propasal! Enjoy this time together!

Not much makes me feel teary, but just reading about a guy well up during a proposal gets me a little choked-up! :) Gorgeous ring! Congrats!

Beautiful story! Congratulations on the ring and the baby. The ring is just perfect on her hand. :appl:  :appl:

Gorgeous set!

Thank you all SO much for your kind words! I REALLY appreciate it. I adore the people on PS; everyone is so sweet. Also, I apologize for my delay in responding. I got called out, last-minute, to somewhere where I had no access to a computer; I just got back in to the office today.

: Thank you all for your comments regarding the set! I am really glad to hear that the PS community approves of the rings. =) I respect the opinions of you all far more than those of your "average Joe."

Glammy: I too am glad to finally now be able to post pics of the rings! It has certainly been a journey for the both of us. =) Speaking of which, I really hope that your search for a RB with the necessary spread is working out! I was actually thinking of you the other day when I saw an AGS0 pop up on the secondary market that was right in your price range, but it was only .8 carats and had likely nowhere near the necessary spread you need. :(( I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you to find something perfect soon! Also, thank you SO much for your sweet comment about you liking the story particularly in light of the effort put forth. =) I'm sure that it will also mean a great deal more to you when you get your ring completed to remember what you went through to get there! Best of luck!

Christina: Thanks for your comment (and for your comment in RT as well)! I've been reading a great deal of your posts in the past few months, and your opinion really means a lot, so thank you. =) I'm glad you had mentioned the bezel. That was exactly my thought! I had initially planned to just buy a JA Tiffany-style plat. 6-prong to maximize the amount I could dedicate to the RB, but once I saw the bezel, I immediately knew that it would suit her lifestyle SO much more. She is not used to wearing any jewelry, and I suspect that a high-sitting setting with prongs could have been slightly troublesome to her at times (not to mention the fact that I have 2 loved ones who both lost their RB after a snag on a 6-prong! I really need to get my set insured ASAP!) Well, I wish you the best of luck in your diamond search! However, seeing that you are sharp as a tack and well-versed in diamonds, I'm sure it should pay off for you soon!
