Ring Upgrade and Advice, Pls?

I have a milestone birthday coming up and I am really considering upgrading my center stone. I currently have a 3 stone ring and had hoped to get an upgrade on our 10 year anniversary but ended with a new band instead. DH seems to want to hold on to my ring due to sentimental reasons while I want something bigger. My compromise is to keep the side stones and setting and then turn the center to a necklace. Does this sound like a feasible and not an expensive route to take? The center stone I have now is .67 H SI1. I want to go up to at least a .90 $5K-$6K just for the stone. Obviously that budget will be less if I trade in to the place that we got my ring from.

It really depends whether the new stone will fit in-between your side stones on your current setting.

You could put a pretty colored stone in the middle and wear it as a RHR (and put the new stone in a solitaire).

I really haven’t thought this whole thing through. Now that I’m looking at it, I can’t just change the center. I’m gonna have to change the setting altogether which I’m fine with as long as I can take the side stones to the new ones.
