Has anybody ever had the band on a ring shaved down? What was your experience like & can you show me before / after shots? We're you happy with the results?

I am *thinking* of having the band thinned on my solitaire. I can hear you all letting out a big sigh after all the trouble & expense I have been to having this setting custom made for the third time, but in the heat of summer since having my eternity ring re-set at New Year, the rings are strangling my finger. They are all sized the same & get very loose in the cold, so making one of them bigger isn't an option. Altogether they measure 8.75mm. The eternity (3mm) is full so can't be touched, my wedding ring (3mm) is sacred so can't be touched, but the band on my pear tapers from 2.75mm underneath to 2mm at the top. Should I have it shaved to 2mm all the way around to allow more finger breathing space??

That is not going to make enough difference to be worth doing. The two 3mm bands are the problem, and realistically, most people cannot wear three rings of that width on one finger. I think you need to wear two rings in the summer.

Ditto :(sad can the pear and the sacred band not be sized up a half-size? You mention in another thread that your band is comfort-fit - these are usually thicker in terms of depth off the finger, so shaving the interior might be an option if cutting to resize is not...

I've found that adding sizing beads to a slightly large shank are an effective way to give the finger some breathing room and still prevent "slide off the finger in winter" effect.

I really, really think you need to consider sizing - cutting off circulation is not safe :errrr:

I had my 20pter eternity sized from a 6.5 to 7 by shaving a little on the inside. It might work to have sizing beads added for the winter months when your finger is smaller.

Thank you both for your kind opinions. I could have the pear made a smidge bigger by shaving it if that would make it more comfy. It's the last to go on my finger & therefore around the widest part where it's most fleshy underneath. That's where it digs in when I'm hot. I couldn't size my wedding ring as when it's on alone it slides up & down a bit, and twice on occasion in the shower it has pinged off :o

Maybe if I did this I could buy a really skinny 1mm band to pop on in the winter months. I know that ads ANOTHER 1mm to the stack, but as I said they are fairly loose when my hands are cold & jangle around. This all seems like such silly thing to be wasting my brain space on!

In hindsight I wish I'd gone for a 2mm wedding ring & then I could have had the pear made at 1.75mm. But who knew back then my hubby would buy me a full eternity? If he wasn't so attached & sentimental, I'd snap up that 2mm Cartier plain band on EBay. I wonder if he'd notice... :Up_to_something:

Thank you Nonie :wavey: I always, always thought a full eternity was untouchable. Mine, conveniently enough, has a closed inside & is quite deep from the finger. It might be a perfect candidate...?

It looks like the shank on your pear ring has quite a bit of depth - I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to shave it a bit to give you more room. I think the difficulty would be in finding a jeweler who could do the job while retaining that beautiful comfort fit contour... and getting just the right size so the ring doesn't accidentally slip off when your finger is smaller.
