Ring size

My girlfriend mentioned that she has a ring sized of 5mm, what size is that with American sizes. She is orginally from South America and I want to buy her a nice gift when i go and visit her, but I want it to be a suprise. I don''t want to ask her what ring size she is again because I asked her a while ago and she has since forgotten. I thought about taking her to a Jewler when she was here but just didn''t so stupid!!!!!!!!!! Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt it would be 5mm, that''s would mean her finger is only half a cm round? That doesn''t sound right?! It''s likely she is a size 5, US sizing, which is just under the average ladies size of 6.

Be careful, though, if the ring is from Brazil. Brazilian sizing is a little different for some reason; it most resembles German sizing (go figure?). I''m a size 5 in the USA, and in Brazil, every ring I tried on that fit was a "15 3/4." Maybe she is a size 15? And the "1" has been worn away by use?

I forgot to ask: Are you sure she bought it in S.A.? If it came from Japan or Europe, the size might make more sense...
