I feel for you BOTH. You touched on why your husband is upset, and I get that. I also get why you want something else. If you use the sapphire he gave you and really love the final product I'm guessing (don't know you...) that it will become all right. I'm slightly lost on some suggestions. IS there a Stuller that will accommodate your stone?

So far we have not found a Stuller setting to accommodate the stone. It's so small that I think it will be hard. It's only a 2.8 mm stone. But we will see. My other thought is maybe I put a bigger yogo in the center and put the one my husband gave me somewhere else on the ring, like in the gallery... kind of like those peekaboo diamonds. The jeweler is searching for a setting for me so I will see what he says in a few days.

What about a three stone ring? You can use your sapphire as a side stone and source a matching one. The jewelers quote seem very high to me. For $1600 you can find a nice 0.5-0.7ct diamond even, so to spend that on “re-hosting” meleè seems crazy to me.

I like this idea! And you could even use your melee stones since they've already been unmounted. That way, you're still using ALL of the same stones from your original ring, and only the setting is changing (with maybe some additional stones added to what you already had).

FWIW, I think you're being very reasonable in your requests. It sounds like your original setting broke and you wouldn't even have considered a new ring if it weren't for that. He shouldn't expect you to wear it broken . . . that can be uncomfortable and unsafe! I know he attaches a lot of sentimental value to the ring that he gave you, but it sounds like you do too and you're doing everything you can to preserve the ring as much as possible. So IMO, he really needs to cut you some slack here.

Good luck to you!

It's probably cheaper to buy a whole new ring;

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yogo-Sapph...088039?hash=item4b063b2aa7:g:LxgAAOSwgZ1Xr48e

Maybe a three stone;

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-very-rar...es-gemstone-/142719920390?_trksid=p5731.m3795

This one in the middle;

And I'd try and find another to match yours. But these are just suggestions, you husband might be offended in some way that you want a bigger stone and a different style ring, since he has sentiment attached to the original ring. I personally would go with the tact I really loved it but it's broken and now unwearable so from this point onwards it doesn't matter how it changes the original sapphire is still going to be part of the ring. And I personally would use the diamonds they took out of the original ring and put them into a band, that way everything from your former ring gets reused. If that upsets anyone then people vary.

Arkieb posted good options. What do you think?

Thank you so much for the links! I'm certainly considering the idea of a new ring. At this point (so my jeweler doesn't strangle me Lol!!!) my ONLY must is the the original yogo be put into the new ring somewhere. I'm kind of thinking for the cost to reset the melee from my old ring (over $1,000) I could spend that toward a different ring, or bigger, better stones. I'm assuming that if I don't want to use the stones and setting that they would give me credit toward the new ring.

Some great ideas! I personally love the idea of more yogos!

Thanks so much for your kind words and support! I never in a million years would have guessed a ring would cause so much discourse. Lol!! I would love to reuse the melee since they have already been unmounted, but it sounds like it could run me well into a thousand dollars to reset them. So if that's the case, I say that's money that could go toward bigger, better quality stones in a new setting.
I am kind of to the point with my hubby that I totally understand his feelings, but am ready to just do what makes me happy. He will either be okay with it or he won't. But he's the only one choosing to make himself miserable over all of it. I promise I'm to always such a cold hearted b****, but I'm ready to get on with it and rock a new beauty on my hand!

I TOTALLY agree with you! My only must at this point is that the original yogo goes back on the new ring. But otherwise, I'm very open to all options! I love the idea of a nice diamond with two yogos on either side!

I am so happy that you like the idea! Perhaps see if you can find a good Yogo match first and then go from there based on the budget left. Take your time with this project so that you ensure that it is everything you want in the end. As a three stone owner, I can say that one of the best things is that the ring doesn’t need to be babied as much and I find that they look very elegant on the hand.

It's a shame that resetting your melee will be so expensive. In that case, I do think you might be better off to just go with a different ring, making sure to mount your original stone in it somewhere. Then maybe you could save your original melee stones to use in a different project at some point in the future.

And I don't think you're being cold-hearted at all! In fact, I think it's sweet that you're trying so hard to consider his feelings and make him happy, and that you're so intent on keeping as much of your original ring as you can. But I don't blame you for feeling like you're ready to just get on with it! It's been a struggle, I know, and I can imagine that you're getting tired.

I bet whatever you come up with will be lovely and I look forward to seeing it! :))

Honestly. Are you serious? Please stop and take a step back from this project. And now I promise to not comment any further.

Honestly. Why even comment at all?

Good for you for making yourself happy. It’s only a ring. Not like you are leaving a child behind. It’s your finger. Your choice what to wear on it. End of story. Keep posting away about your ideas.

I think it's kind of unfortunate that jewelry is sentimental. It puts jewelry lovers in an impossible situation. But at the same time, if my husband gave me exactly what I wanted I may become super sentimental, lol! That's probably not going to happen - my fairy tale is that he's a great husband and father. But please leave the jewelry pickin to me, ;)! Good luck @MTHealthyLiving. Go with your gut and you will find the best solution.

Gorgeous! A very royal look! It’s great that your stone gets even more attention in this setting.

I really like this setting for you. In fact, I LOVE it! It's absolutely beautiful and, to my eye, appears to capture the spirit and tone of the original setting. It looks like a better, more well executed version of the original. I think you found a real winner here and I'm so happy for you. I think you should go forward with this, hopefully with full blessings from your husband. At this point, if he isn't completely on board, then his issues are not really about the ring at all. I give you huge credit for trying to be considerate about his feelings, but enough's enough. If he still has objections, stay peaceful and order the ring anyway. Understand that he's a big boy and he'll eventually wise up to the fact that throwing hiss-y fits about jewelry is not a good use of his time.

My apologies to you and your husband, if my words are offensive.

I think I finally found a setting!!!!
It would not only fit my yogo in the center, but showcase it a bit. It’s also the look I wanted, and will go nicely with my wedding band.
Fingers crossed my jeweler can get it!

FYI (although I imagine your jeweler recognized the page layout) -- that is actually a Stuller setting, so your jeweler can doubtlessly get it:

If you decide to have Stuller be the one to source and mount the 36 diamonds before shipping, do ask your jeweler to get price quotes from Stuller re upgrading the diamonds to above commercial/"mall store" quality. Stuller offers a wide variety of melee diamonds in the 2 mm and 1.2 mm sizes needed for that mounting -- including Stuller's own Precision Melee, available in 2 different clarities (VS and SI1) -- which I remember thinking was nice for the price.

Beautiful!!! It’s gonna look amazing with your stone! :appl:

On the LAD site the setting for the 2.8 is more than the setting for the 4.8 by around $160. Why is that? So it's like $430 for 2.8 plus the cost of the melee and setting all the diamonds, right?

If you play around with the Stuller listing webpage, you'll see that Stuller has some size 7, 14K white gold mountings for 4.8 mm or 4.4 mm center stone in stock ("limited availability") and has posted a DEAL "sticker" in conduction with those; select other options and the DEAL sticker vanishes & you're told it will be a custom order.

Although Stuller provides a manufacturer's suggested retail price for all of its pieces (historically, their MSRP has been 3x the wholesale price), retail jewelers are free to charge as much, or as little, of a mark-up as they wish from the wholesale price they pay to Stuller. Which is why it can truly pay to shop around when considering Stuller.

Thanks for the tip! In my email to my jeweler I did tell him I wanted G-H and SI1 stones. I figured that’s better than mall quality but not over the top for what it is. My poor wedding band is color I and I2-I3. (Long before PriceScope Lol!) So I hope the new ring doesn’t make the wedding band look too dull.

Thank you!
I have literally spent countless hours for a setting! My heart skipped a beat when I saw this one!

Thank you so much for your kind words!

I have spent hours and hours searching for a setting, and this one couldn’t feel more perfect!
I totally agree with you about my husband, and I pretty much told him I’m going to do what makes me happy. He’s still a bit touchy, but I know in time it will pass. I am grateful to have such a sensitive man, but it’s difficult sometimes when I’m more like a rhino!
But we make it all work somehow.

Just got a call from the jeweler and we are moving forward! I’m so excited!
I showed the ring to my hubby, and while he didn’t seem thrilled, he didn’t say anything negative either.
It’s going to be a good 4 weeks before it’s ready though. The wait is going to kill me! Lol!
But while I wait... I shall find a band to go with it. Something to go in between my wedding band and the new ring, both of which are channel set. I’ll be buying from Blue Nile, so if you’re there and see anything let me know. :D
