Hello RockyTalky members,

i'm in a time crunch to purchase a second engagement ring and wedding band by next week. I would like some help on the second engagement ring, on choosing a diamond with the specs below. And is this possible in 5days?

Round Cut
0.75-1.05 ct (would like ring to look large when seen straight on) - second most important factor
I-G
Cut, Sparkly and Brilliant as possible - most important factor
SI1-VS2

The ring setting would be simple and in white gold.
Budget is about 4-6k

Hope to buy this weekend or even today.

BTW, this forum has a great community. Unlike any other. Thanks for spreading your wisdom.
And my wedding is next weekend.
I have a good idea on what the wedding band will be(platinum band with pave design)

Thanks

One short week?...I think your best bet is to find a local jeweler

Platinum and white gold are very different in color, might want to take a look at that together before buying.

She would like to have a variety of looks. But i'll ask again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but for engagement rings I believe the majority of online vendors have to make the setting (at least the head) specifically for the stone you choose to get the sizing right. A week (including shipping time) really isn't long at all.

I'd start by asking each vendor (JA/WF/BGD/etc) if they could even do something that quickly. Let us know which ones can, and we'll go from there

Edit: Another option is to go with a preset ring. I know BGD offers this, and might get to you in time: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pre-selected-engagement-rings

They have some white gold rings in the 0.7-0.82ct range that are in your budget, and a lot of styles to choose from

I thought that JA had a few preset rings... can not check from where I am now... Is that possible or am I thinking earrings only? (apologize for false hope if I'm wrong...)

Search the In-House stones only on the PS diamond search. You can get .8 - .9ct in a simple gold solitaire for that budget.

Also -- try contacting IDJ (IDjewelryonline.com) and see what Yekutiel may be able to do for you quickly.

I would go ritani. Their reserve ideal stones are nice enough I would feel comfortable buying without an idealscope so that would save time. Plus they have many in your budget. I'd go with this, gives you plenty under budget if you go plain solitaire, or gives you a budget for one of their very nice other settings

Hopefully that link works.

I'd see if they could expedite it! Worth asking

Looking to get this 18k white gold ring/setting from JA:

And to purchase this wedding band/ring in platinum:

I will get in touch with JA to see what is possible. They have a store in Los Angeles.

Thanks for the recommendations so far.

I had a chat session with JA rep (very nice service) and they will try their best to figure something out. The rep doesn't see it happening, but she will provide a response after some investigation.

So I am still eyeing the ring listed above and will be searching for a diamond from JA.

I would go with WhiteFlash because they have their ACA and Expert Selection stones in house and I would think they'd have some stock of plain solitaire settings. I would not delay...call them immediately. I would not waste time talking to vendors who might have to call stones in. Plus, WF stones are top cut quality and you just don't have time to mess around!

Listen, I like James Allen but you are wasting time. It sometimes takes them 2-3 days to even provide and idealscope image and a lot of their stones aren't in-house. Call WhiteFlash before they close!!!

DS2006 is 100% correct!
You might call Leslie at BGD also and see what she can do for you.

I have seen people post that Yekutiel and LuAnn can turn things around in less then a week if the diamond is in house or near bye. I would contact them.

Am I wasting money on the VS2?

Prefer new...the first proposal was with a pre-loved. I got major kickback from it - but it was also not a diamond. Family drama.
Trying to right some "wrongs".

She prefers the white gold (if not platinum).

On chat with WF right now.

That one from dbl isn't used and its in a beautiful plat setting. Over a ct, and based off that Whiteflash one you are looking at its in budget! :D

I prefer 6.

I like 6 prongs better than 4. I have bent prongs like that 4-prong rather easily. With 4, the stone can pop out if you bent one prong to the side just enough. With 6, there is far less chance of that happening.

If you are going with that WG JA setting, then why buy a platinum band especially in an eternity ring like that where all you see are the diamonds? I would get either both in WG or both in platinum.

I like that J stone. I didn't suggest it on the 1st pass because it was over budget and also a J. J, to me, is visibly tinted. Most people can start to see tint at I color range, especially from the side. J is a warm color, to me. The cut will be beautiful, lots of brilliance, fire scintillation. But if someone is really wanting glare-white, then D - H is the range to look at in the .8 - 1ct range.

whole thread of J and maybe a couple of K color diamonds in platinum, lots of pics:

Just for reference, a typical CZ is a D color in diamond.

I'm no expert and all the above posters have way more knowledge about this stuff than me but i did just buy my FI a J colored stone and she simple loved it. I say get it and the six prong setting and call it a day.

Yeah, I agree I wouldn't waste valuable time with JA this late in the game. They would have to call in the stone and get you additional images, and it takes a minimum of three days, I've purchased from them several times and it's always 10-14 days from date of order.

The stone from WF looks good, I agree with the others on the 6 prong setting, it will make the stone more secure and I also think that it makes the stone appear larger and more round than a 4 prong.

Oh, just one more thing....I wouldn't mix platinum and wg. Platinum is going to get a patina that makes it look grayish over time, while the white gold will begin to take on a creamy or more yellow appearance as the rhodium plating wears off. If she likes to switch things up, I would add stacking bands or diamond eternity bands over time.

Do the 6 prong. More secure plus I love the overall look more.

Hello fellow RockyTalkies...i dove in with the J diamond and the 6 prong WG setting from WF(well served by Brittany).

Thank you everyone for their input, suggestions, and guidance - this has to be one of the greatest forums in all the interwebs.

I should be getting the ring next Wednesday.

I will take a couple more hours to consider the wedding band with my fiance.

Cheers for now,
TT
