Hello :wavey:

My husband started married life as the most un-jewellery-aware person in the universe *cough $600 engagement ring cough* , but thanks to solid exposure over the decade he is turning into a benevolent enabler! ::)

To talk me into having a fourth baby, he said a push present / RHR would be in order!

So, now I have an exciting choice: a three-stone featuring .70/1.36/. 70................. or a solitaire featuring a 2.02.

Both same specs (F/SI eyeclean/H&A cut)

Which would you prefer?

And if a solitaire, how should it be styled? :Up_to_something:

Love to have you join the fun! :D

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Gosh, you're very lucky! My husband still doesn't see the point of jewellery, but indulges me because it makes me happy :))

I think I personally would prefer the 3 stone. I have always seen solitaires as engagement ring types, but that is just my preference. A lovely 3 stone RHR would give fab finger coverage all on its own :sun:

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

2ct solitaire... Then you can always turn that into a 3 stone when you have your 5th baby! :Up_to_something: :cheeky:

Congratulations on the new baby too. :))

I like, I like!

Would the 2ct solitaire be in addition to your current one (just over a carat IIRC?) or an upgrade? I'm a sucker for 3 stones so it's a no brainer for me, 3 stone all the way!!! :appl:

I agree with HOT. That way you can have both when you turn that lovely big solitaire into a lovely huge 3 stone!!! :naughty:

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I am not a solitaire kinda girl, so I would say the three stone. Plus, the size/proportions of the three stone sound perfect.

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I would go 3 stone - I'm always drawn to them and I like the amazing finger width coverage they give. When I was contemplating how to set my OEC, i found it hard to STOP looking at the 3 stone settings!!

" Go Team 3 Stone!!" :appl:

Another +1 here, so that'd make it +n! :naughty:

Me too!!! I dont know the specs on your current ring...but if it happens to work... maybe in the future you even combine the two and get a third stone and make a new bigger and blingier 3 stone!!!

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I agree a 3-stone would be nice for a RHR. Good Old Gold made a beautiful one with August Vintage Rounds, channel set small diamonds and engraving on the rest of the band. Yummy.

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I was faced with this EXACT choise earlier this year. I had two .70ct OEC and a 1.37ct OEC in hand. It is an amazing combination! But I chose the 8mm soitaire and I am exceedingly happy with my choice.

In my humble opinion, the beauty of diamonds in larger sizes is the more apparent facets. Wowza it changes the optics! So I vote one bigger stone.

ETA: And then turn your current 1ct into a three stone down the road for a RHR

I was going to vote three stone, but Dreamers got a good idea here!

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I would not want a solitaire for a right hand ring and especially not larger than the e-ring. But if you can start wearing the 2 ct as your ering and then later make the 1 ct diamond into a 3 stone, as Dreamer suggested, then that is what I'd do. In fact, what I would personally do is get a 1.75 ct e-ring and 2 half carat stones to go with your current diamond and go ahead and have 2 completed rings!!!

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Ladies, you are ALL geniuses!!!

I appreciate each and every comment, thank you! ::)

When I wrote this thread, I was gripped with certainty that I was going to go with the sol, in a bypass-style with pave.

Here is an indicative photo (not actual final style) in the link:

http://i.tfcdn.com/img2/XO6fX5MAY55...0MBAL6sgHaa9uCSxJDOZKBMsTE3jg0F6AQ**/fyVMtP8A

However, now is time to come clean with a l'il confession. During my extended PS 'break', my 1.1 ring has grown to a delicious 1.6!
So with current (relatively) low prices, it IS within my reach to upgrade my 1.6 to the 2c.

There fore, I COULD have my cake and eat it too.... I wasn't sure if I had the chutzpah to do that (one bird, two stones lol)
but after a quick trip to my local favourite retailer (HoF), I'm thinking I could rock a 2c after all hehehh.

Do I have the courage to swap out my beloved 1.6 though?

Am going to my dealer on Tuesday to check out my options.... and will report back!

Snaps! Ring choice sisters lol :)
I haven't seen the stones yet, so I am relieved to hear you knowledgeable women telling me the ratios should be good...

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I am also going to be brave and tell you lovely girls that unfortunately there are strong medical signs
that something may not be right with this baby :blackeye:
which is kind of a motivation for spoiling myself by considering both as well.

However, we should not dwell (totally off topic for 'Rocky Talky' lol) and also I am playing this right on the down low in my 'real life'.
But of course, hubby and I have already been through a lot emotionally...and there is much, much more to come.

So wish us all luck! :D

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Sending you lots of love to help get your family through the rough patches that come with any new addition and some extra for special circumstances that may add to your challenges and to your joys.

Definitely spoil yourself!!!

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Spoil yourself. You sound like a super mama and deserve to rock that massive solitaire and a three stone! :D :Up_to_something:
Best of luck with the new bubs, hugs to you and your hubby.

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Oh Lara, my heart goes out to you and your DH. I only wish you both the very best heartfelt wishes that the signs could somehow not be as dire as indicated...fingers crossed and a boatload of dust blown your way from Canada!

As for both rings, if it is doable and not a hardship --- go for it! They will bring you joy and happiness when you watch them dance and sparkle on your hand! Life is short - wear lots of bling! ( my new T shirt phrase of the day!)

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Oh Lara, my goodness hon I'm so sorry that is the case! Please spoil yourself, not only because you are more than deserving, but how I would love to see your tiny fingers rock a big soli AND a honking 3 stone!!

Much love to you and your hubby, and gorgeous kids x

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Thank you so much you lovely kind ladies.
Obviously, this has all just happened... I basically signed up for the 12 week scan to get my sweaty mitts on some early photos of our new child!

The scan was perfect and everything seemed wonderful.

Then, later that day, I got an unexpected call from my doctor. :knockout:
Even then I was in denial, it was only yesterday that the true extent of our 'situation' was made clear to me.

(It's not likely to be Downs Syndrome, btw, if you're curious.) So, off for more tests!

Given all this has happened, I think I just might be cashing in my trusty 1.6.
Much as I adore it...

But we shall see. If I go to this 2c, I'm really at the upper limit of my size limit, ...I don't live in a particularly ostentatious part of town lol and even considering this has seemed a little naughty.

But as a diamond lover, I fully intend to be 'in the game', already happily planning on improving my stats (clarity mostly as that is the area I am happiest to compromise...more on this later lol).

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I'm sorry to hog the thread with personal chatter but I wanted to take the time to thank each of you personally:

DandiAndi: You sound as surprised as I am, yes it is a very sudden shock! I wasn't keeping any secrets from you when we first spoke in Hangout lol ;) Thank you for posting.

Enerchi: It is quite true that the signs may not be as dire as possible - for every bad story you hear, there seems another two where things turned out okay. My plancental hormones are very low, which means the baby may not be at all nourished, unfortunately. I appreciate your sweet words. :))

JaneSmith: Thank you so much Jane, your enabling is very gratefully received, I appreciate it. :praise:

Rosebloom: My, your turn of phrase is amazing, you must be the friend that people come to for advise on 'how to say' something, what a perfect post! Your thoughts brought a tear to my eyes. :)

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Lara, My heart goes out to you and your family. My sister had a scan when she was pregnant 5 plus years ago with her second child that showed something might be off with the baby. All through the pregnancy the tests showed something wrong- fluid on the brain or something like that (it was a long time ago so I don't remember the exact details). However, all was fine but for a speech deficit that she is undergoing speech therapy for with a specialist in this specific speech disorder. I share this with you because all the doctors were very concerned that there was something major wrong with the baby and all the tests were wrong. She is such a sweet and smart child. Brightest in her class.

Sending you hugs and bucketloads of *****DUST***** that everything turns out perfectly for your sweet unborn baby!!!!!

Sending you lots of hugs and dust Lara :wavey:

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Lara, I surely hope and pray that all will be fine with your baby. I do hear many stories of warnings that turn out fine in the end!

Regarding the ring, I think everything changes to me knowing what diamond you have now. If you trade in the current 1.6 ct diamond for 2 cts, you end up with 1 ring. If you keep the 1.6 as your e-ring, then you get a second ring that is a 3 stone with a 1.3 center. Personally, I think these would be absolutely gorgeous together! That would be my choice for myself.

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Lots of dust and prayers to you, Lara.

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

Thank you again girls. I shall know more immediate news re the baby in a week or two.

Regarding the jewels *heheheh* I already own the 1.36, which makes everything so much more fun, decision wise! :)

Will update next week!

Re: RHR 'family ring': 1.36 centre for three stone, or 2c so

I hope the news and worry will be for naught. My thoughts are with you and your family.

In the bling department, I'd choose the 2 ct because you can't go wrong with that. Later down the road, there's always resets and etc which is more limited with a 3 stone ring.
