Hello,

I am new to the group and I have really enjoyed reading all the helpful information. My husband and I would like to restyle my wedding set. Eventually he would like to upgrade the center stone, but right now our main goal is to get my engagement ring in a sturdier setting and possibly change the band, which is a ring guard. We were originally going to go back to the store where we purchased my ring to look for a different setting and band but Ive been reading so much on here about how buying online can save you money and you can get better quality diamonds. Our budget right now is $2,000. Ill post pictures of my set I have now

I like my split shank setting but its thin and the prongs bend and I am considering having my new set be in white gold. I also prefer the look of my engagement ring alone without being in a guard, although it does create a unique look.

So I guess what I am asking is what I can do to change it up on our budget?

Thank You

Welcome to the forum.

With your budget you might want to check out Engagement Rings Direct, and speak to Chris.

I think that the mouth watering settings from Steven Kirch or Victor Canera will be above your budget.

Best of luck.

ps. Since you did not mention any specific designs you might want to check out this link for ideas:

Thank you for the reply and the links. I dont really have a design in mind. I think Im going to have to look around at stores and try some things on to see what I like. My current ring set was a rushed purchase and I didnt spend a lot of time going through settings and styles. Im also wondering if maybe I should just keep my engagement ring setting and change the guard for a wedding band, or even if I reset my engagement ring, just keep it in a solitaire setting and change the band.

Is your engagement ring setting comfortable and safe? If so, I may keep that as-is for now and maybe change up the ring guard to a wedding band or two. I think your current wedding band/ring guard takes away from your engagement ring, as it is rather bulky and doesn't allow your diamond to be the showpiece.

Yes I agree, I do like the engagement ring better on its own without the guard and that was one of the options I was thinking of. As far as I know the setting is safe and there is nothing wrong with it, the guard has prevented me from knocking it around since it sits up high. I do like the delicateness of the split shank on my e-ring.

So what type of band would you suggest to go with my split shank?

You should go to a jeweler and ask to look through catalogs. Stuller.com is a USA company that makes all kinds of settings, and I find it easier to browse their printed catalogs than the online version. Adwar is another casting company that all jewelers can access.

A bezel settings, either full bezel or partial, can make your diamond look substantially larger, so you'd feel like you got an upgrade.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/under-1ct-diamonds.25028/ is diamonds under 1ct but some of those settings make the diamonds look larger.

It you don't want or need a lot of diamonds in your mounting, then you have a lot of options that will be well under budget. A halo ring with diamonds in the halo but a plain shank plus a matching plain wedding band might fit. too.

If you are going to upgrade the center at some point how about a nice diamond band now you can use with your new ring later? In concerned you will get a beautiful setting that won't accommodate your new stone.

Yes this is why I am leaning towards possibly just doing as suggested above and getting a new wedding band for now. So many decisions

what about two simple, thin eternity bands for now...one on each side of the wedding ring!

Looks great! I have always liked that channel-set look. You diamond looks a lot larger in that style of head, too. :-)

Looks very nice! Makes your stone look much bigger too!

Wow, now that looks very pretty!! Agree with others that the setting makes your diamond look bigger, which is always a good thing! :naughty:

Beautiful!

Thank you everyone. I'm going to try and take a picture in the daylight and post.
