Is it worth sending in to down size .25 of ring size? My fiancee's ring spins a little and goes over the knuckle with little friction. I understand its the winter now but she doesn't notice her rings fitting more snug in the summer.

Size 6 -> 5.75

I just bought my ring recently from JA so they can still do it for free. Only cost is sending it in.

To me, it would be worth it. It bugs me when the ring spins.

I''ve done so before and it helps a lot. The one last thing I do want to caution you is that sometimes the weather affects ring sizes. In winter, I wear a 5.25 due to the cold and in summer I wear a 5.5. It might be best to wait until the weather warms up a little to see if it gets more snug then. However, if you are sure it''s fitting all right all year long, I''d do it.

Hey w3ss...

It''s funny you ask this because I have the same setting from JA (well, almost!) as your FI, also in a size 6. Mine is also just a little big. I have had my ring for just over a year, so I have worn it through all seasons. It''s spinning much more now (I''m in the midwest, brr!) than it did in the summer. Also, I think because the band is sooo thin, it spins more because it is top heavy. I often think about getting it re-sized down to a 5.75, but fear it would feel too tight in the summer. I would wait until you guys see for sure how to will fit in the summer. Are you getting the matching band as well?

My e-ring came in .25 too big (we ordered a 4.5 and it came in a 4.75) I never sent it back and now I am glad! Winter is NOT the best time to determine if a ring is too big. In the summer it fits comfortably (I HATE tight rings).

Agreed. Never resize a ring in the winter. And to resize a quarter size, you''d just do it locally rather than send it back to James Allen.

I''m actually going through the same debate in my head. I have a 6.5, and it is a little loose. FI and I determined that if it is still loose in the summer, we''ll have it resized.

ETA: My fingers also swell in the summer, but also thought winter was not the time to have a ring resized.

My suggestion to you: wait to see how it feels in the summer months!

nope. it''s such a small change... chances are when she is older she''ll wish that she had a little larger size. definitely don''t do it in winter. I hate tight rings with a passion - I think they look awful so I''d rather have a little spin. just my 2cts. If she needed a half size smaller, then I say go for it. GL!

I would suggest having sizing balls put in, and see how it fits come summertime. If the sizing balls work well even in the summer, the ring may not need to be sized at all. However, if she notices that with the sizing balls in place during the warm months the ring becomes a little more uncomfortable to put on and off over the knuckle, don''t size the ring! The sizing balls should help prevent spin.

Some of our clients with thin fingers where the ring sits but slightly larger knuckles have found sizing balls and euroshanks to be the best solutions. Both can prevent spin.

I agree...for such a small difference and if the issue is spinning, sizing beads might be her best bet

I don't know about you ladies but those sizing beads bother me especially when I carry my work bag or have to carry anything at all. They seem to dig into my finger.

I purchased my ring in the winter and was able to wear it throughout the summer, so I would say YES, it''s absolutely worth it to resize it down by that 1/4, especially if it''s going on with little friction. Depending on the type of setting, it may be best to do it locally and try on their sizing rings to make sure the fit is perfect before any work starts.

Melissa, what are euroshanks?

Check the fit in summer, if it''s still lose then have it resized. My ring is a tad loose in winter and perfect in summer. Remember, adding another band will tighten things up, so def wait if you are planning on a wband or stacking band etc.

I did this with my wedding band and it was worth it. It made just the right amount of difference!

wow...tough decision...thanks for all the input.

The only reason I may want to get it resized now by .25 is cause its free for 60 days ($20 shipping with JA) How much does it usually cost locally (I''m in Chicago)

Yes I''m planning on getting the matching wedding band. Should I get it in the same size? Maybe it will make things snug enough with the band?

I have the matching wedding band, also in a size 6. The band seems to spin more than the ER, don''t know why.

When you add the wedding band it will probably fit perfectly. .25 of a size is a fraction of a mm.

Well for my FI''s finger if she pushes the ring up a little on her finger it fits snugger. Maybe thats the case for your finger as well if you wear your band in your finger first.

I''d probably go with a 5.75 for the wedding band...

MY ER is 4.25, but spins in the winter - I JUST had the sizing ball (they put onein the middle) put in and am very happy with it. Actually b/c it''s top heavy my ER is 4.25 and my bands are 4.5 - I can''t stand tight rings.

I'd consider getting sizing beads put in, and I also second the advice to wait until summer to see how it fits when her fingers are bigger.

ETA: Sounds like she's already worn the ring in summer? For 0.25, I still think sizing beads are a better option than resizing the ring.
