Hi Everyone:

I'm new to the community and would like to get some feedback and insight regarding selecting a center stone from Bluenile.com
I found the perfect setting for me on Blue Nile.com and would like assistance in selecting a stone within our total budget of $6,000. The price of the setting is $1850 which leaves us $4,150 to select a very nice center stone.

I am interested in a round brilliant cut and would prefer 1.0 Carat.
What would be a good clarity and color for a nice center stone within that price range? I would appreciate any positive feedback. We have decided to purchase from bluenile.com.

Please see the Setting attached:

Thank you in advance!

It is going to be hard to pull off a 1 ct stone at $4150. You'd have to go to lower color and clarity to do it, and I think you will see a color contrast between your center stone and the halo. But it can work as long as you don't mind that. I only look at BN Signature stones because those are the only ones with any pictures at all.

Okay, there are no BN Signature Ideal stones in J color, which is what you need to get a stone close to a carat. There are I SI1's starting at $6k.

1 ct J SI1's start at $4400+. Again, I will not buy a diamond with no images, but this one might be a possibility if eyeclean and if you had an idealscope image of it.

You are sticking it in a halo so the difference between an 85 point center or a 1 carat center really isn't going to be obvious at all. What might to be obvious is the color difference of the center to the halo.

I'd go for an 85 point stone. http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?elem=sub1&filter_id=0&pt=sig&track=rotator1#diamonds_pid=LD04364443 if you an stretch your budget a little, this would be the best choice. It's 6.1mm which is great. And will look like a one carat once in a halo. Seriously. I have a halo, it makes your center itself look big.

it's a signature stone, so the light performance has been checked (and the numbers are great), and it is guaranteed eyeclean.

So I suggest you get this stone. And not go down to a J to get a one carat.
