I am starting to think that the east and west coasts should secede.

Sounds like a good idea.

Yeah, until they lose those sweet, sweet blue state subsidies.

Bye!

I don't like any subsidies for anything. Not the government's place. An industry should stand or fall on its own.

Can you take crook county il with you?
Then IL might just turn into a good state to live in.

I can't find the thread in which OoohShiny and I had a brief discussion on privacy, but I wanted to place this link into that thread. I am going to place it in to this thread instead. It is pretty frightening.

I think it might have been this one?

Completely off-topic for that thread, in true PS style  lol

Big Data is such a new concept that I don't think many (most?) of us yet understand its full potential, both for good and for more malevolent intentions.

I do hope that the current focus on just how much data-harvesting is taking place, and just how it can be used against us, might make people stop and think in the future. Other than people on here and some family/friends, there seem to be just crazy numbers of people splashing all their data and thoughts and feelings about without even thinking about it, or just because they don't care about privacy because they don't think it really affects them or they somehow feel comforted that they are being GPS-tracked 24/7.

I do think that anyone living in, say, North Korea or China would have a very different view on privacy, given how intrusive their governments are and how there is complete disregard for human rights or due process. In the western world there seems to be this slightly bizarre belief that governments are benign and not out to control their populations to the best of their ability!

Anyway, I fear I'm starting to rant... lol

Single issue voter here and it's along the same lines. If any candidate supports the Patriot Act, they don't get my vote. I am way more afraid of government surveillance and trampling on my privacy rights than I am of anything else. I don't vote much because both of the parties are at fault and few candidates even mention the Patriot Act. Bin Laden won.
