What are things you'd like to do before you are too old? Things you think are actually achievable.

Life goals? Ambitions? Not sure if I like the 'kick the bucket' part of 'bucket list', but at least everyone knows what I'm talking about.

It doesn't matter if they are big or small, in the near or far future.

Here is mine, as of today:

Go to the Chelsea flower show.
Visit Gallipoli for a dawn service on ANZAC Day.
Learn piano and violin.
Climb Kilimanjaro.
See a corpse flower.
Get a PhD in something.
Do a marathon.
Do a triathlon.
Hike to Everst Base Camp.
Snorkle in the Palau jellyfish lake.
Learn French.
Learn to sing.
Take belly dance and ballet lessons.
See the solar eclipse in 2017.
See the Cherry blossoms in Japan.
Dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
Visit Antarctica.
Shark dive.
See wild gorillas.
Visit the Galapagos.
Drive a Ferrari and/or Lamborghini.
Own a birkin.
Own a 3+ carat diamond.
Lots of travel.

Live to over 100 in good health! See my daughter grow up and be happy and healthy. Have a 50th anniversary.

When I was 14 I wrote up a list of 100 things I wanted to do before I hit 30! I didn't even know what a bucket list was back then or that people made lists like I did. Anyhow I'm now 6 months way from turning 30 and I only have 16 items that I never got to complete! DH and I were bored not to long ago and actually made a bucket list or as we call it an "adventure list" of stuff we want to do with the kids and then stuff later on without them.

Here are a few
-redo vows in Ireland with just the kids for 10 years
-NZ/AUS trip
-White water rafting in the Colorado river
-See the Grand Cayon
-Safari in Africa
-Get a bungalo in Maldeise (sp?)
-Do a polar bear trek in Canada
-Get tickets to the olympic games for 2020
-Climb Mt. Fugi
-Go on an around the world cruise when kids graduate from HS
-Climb the pyramids as a family (i have already gone)
-Climb the volcanos in Hawaii
-Disney as a family
-Apple picking in New England in the fall

Oooh, you would like the 101 in 1,001 challenge!
http://dayzeroproject.com/

My sisters and I revise our list every 1,001 days. It's a lot of fun!

Survive the teenage years. My 14 year old has been a test these past few weeks... My wine consumption is up... WAY up!!! :nono: ;( ;(

Right now I can only think of three and the ship's sailed, so to speak, on one of them.
I always wanted to see the space shuttle take off. I did get to see it fly very close over my house a few years ago.
I'd like to go somewhere that requires a passport. I've never even owned one.
I'd like to see Kilauea when the lava is flowing out to the ocean.

Too old = unable to do anything on your list. Shuffling around in an old folks home or worse.

Texaskj, the shuttle launch was on my list too. :((. I'll just have to hope the price of a virgin galactic suborbital flight comes down a lot from $200,000 in my lifetime. Get that passport! Go on a trip! Do it! :D

So your list is :
Don't throttle the offspring.
Sample many delicious wines.
:))

Haven, that site looks cool, thanks!

Sarahbear, great list! I need to add a couple of those to mine, especially the polar bears at Churchill. So sweet of you to plan a vow renewal with your kids. And that 14 year old's list? Awesome. Congrats on getting 84/100!

Reading these lists and realizing that I've done so many of these activities makes me feel so blessed. :)

I've never sat down and thought about a bucket list... or big things I want to do before I'm too old. Perhaps I should...and get working on doing them!

Seriously??! I read them and think in 8 lifetimes I couldn't be bothered doing that much. What's with all the need for vertical displacement?

I have gone apple-picking in New England many times; the fact that the orchards are on level ground is a big positive for me.

In my head I have an anti-bucket list - things I somehow got suckered into doing that I will NEVER do again. I guess that's another thread!

hahaha Maria- I used to live in NH with my DH for years. But our kids were never there. We want to take our children so they understand that this is what Mommy and Daddy used to do when they were broke and in college. It was a fun time. I can't imagine it being on many people's list!

Oh Sharon... My DH asked tonight if I needed the IV or could I just use the slow method and drink from the glass?...I needed the IV

Welcome to the club--- it is NOT an exclusive club and there are PLENTY of new members of the "My teenagers are driving me to drink" club, who enroll every day! After a few years in this club, you get to move onto the "My Young Adults are going to put me in an early grave" club. FUN FUN FUN!!!

So keep buying up acres of your favourite grape - it will come in handy... says one who knows!!

One thing I wanted to do was a trip with each child. DD and I went to NYC, DS #2 and I did Las Vegas... not so sure I'll get #1 alone, but I'd still love to spend a few days having fun with him, just the two of us!

I'd also like to reach personal contentment. Not sure how to achieve that... but that would be on my list.

Oh no! Sorry MayK!

I have to admit, my list is really short and not exactly achievable. My life is compartmentalized into the time from now until both my boys are out of the house, then I will be free to run and explore all my goals!!!

I haven't a list, but off-hand, I'd love to visit some of the pyramids in Mexico, Belize, etc.
Sit on the beach of Costa Rica
Go to Hawaii
Own a pottery wheel & kiln and make lots of lopsided vases
Own a home with built-in bookcases to put all my books on and rearrange and have fun with that

So much more!

over 50...

Shoot. There goes my chance at doing anything. In all likelihood, I'll be 50 before both my kids are out of the house.

We now having two awesome little dudes in my life in addition to an awesome big dude, there is soooo much I want them to experience.

I want to take the boys to Hawaii! So they can snorkel with us.

I love to see their little faces light up so when they turn 5 or 6 I want to take them to Disneyland.

Take them to the Bar D Barbecue and Show; growing up my parents use to take us to Durango, CO and would take us to this cowboy show under the stars. It is very cute so I hope they like it as much as I did.

Go to Switzerland in the next 5 years; my great Grandfather was from there so I would love to see where he was born and lived for part of his life!

I have other things I want to accomplish but I guess I will ponder it in my mind for awhile before posting it for some reason.

Skippy - you are so sweet to want to have your boys experience all that. I feel a bit guilty that I need a break BIG TIME! lol hahaha I'd love to take the boys to see the Mesoamerican pyramids, but at the same time, it would be sooooo nice to just enjoy them and not have to worry about having snacks packed and organic foods for my older son.

I like seeing things I've already done too! It makes me feel very happy for the opportunities I've had in life so far.
Like I said at the beginning, big or small, it doesn't matter. I just like seeing people's ideas.

My big list doesn't mean I'm unhappy with my life right now, it's just some cool things I'd like to see and do and experience in life given the chance and opportunity. :))

My list was really short, and I've checked off half of them, so assuming I'm right at the midpoint of my life (I'm 40), I still have the opportunity to check off the rest of my list.

Be a mom (check x 2)
Go on a Disney Cruise with my kids (check)
Do something adventurous like Bungee jumpng or zip-lining through rain forest (check, check)
Experience the Napa food and wine train (check)
Do a tour of Europe by train (check)
Climb the Eiffel Tower (check)
Climb to Machu Picchu
Visit Venice, Italy
Visit Australia and New Zealand
Go white water rafting
Survive to see both my kids married, and hopefully hold my grandshildren
Go on a world cruise, maybe own a condo on a cruiseship.

I'm not sure how much of these I'll actually do, but things on my mind are:

Go to Hawaii!
See more of Europe than I have (I'd love to see Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and Belgium, but I don't think I'd say no to a trip anywhere!)
Go to Ireland again (but see different parts than where we've been)
Visit AUS
See more of the US (NYC again, CA, FLA again, and other places escaping my mind right now)
Take some sort of art class (drawing or painting probably). The problem is that I can barely draw a stick figure!
Become a runner (I should probably begin by walking more though. )

I had the most amazing bucket list at 16, I remember my mother beaming with pride when I showed her. She was thrilled that she had raised her baby in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, but she still had big plans. :)) You mothers should ask your children what THEY want to do in their lifetimes, I think it will bring you happiness. I know my last goal was "have a daughter and be as good of a mom as the one I have." :halo:

I haven't accomplished it all, obviously. I'm still (sorta) young! I can't remember them all, but the remaining points that I know for sure are going on safari, visiting an active volcano, and seeing the Aurora Borealis. I've done the hot air ballooning, stranger kissing :wink2: , the rescue work, the college degree and medical-based career.

Other things I've tacked on since 16. I really want to visit Nepal and Patagonia/the Lakes District. Those are my two huge future holidays - Patagonia (Argentina/Chile) will be our long service leave from work, when we get 16 weeks of paid vacation in another 4 years.

HI:

Drink memorable/remarkable wine (and not just to forget about kids! ) while I can't still remember and taste it.....I have my eye on a bottle of Harlan Estates at one of our fav restaurants. I truly enjoy what I eat and drink and if it in a great locale, all the better. But not requsite. Life is short!

cheers--Sharon

I've never made a bucket list! Reading this thread makes me think about MAYBE configuring one. The one thing that popped into my head right away after reading the responses is that I would really, really love to go on one more family vacation with my immediate family (parents, brother and SIL, niece, and my husband, daughter) so that my dad could enjoy playing in the ocean/on the beach with all of us one last time. The times I remember him being happiest when I was growing up were our family vacations spent in beach towns some Christmas breaks and every summer. When he went through all of his cancer treatments several years ago, he ended up having to wear a colostomy bag and he hasn't been back to the beach since. :((

He traveled extensively and accomplished a lot of things in his life. I wonder if he has a list...I need to get over worrying about whether it will be a painful subject and just ask him. Must apply "stop thinking so much and just do it" to my own list, I suppose.

Man, I love lists, but I haven't made one like this! How is that possible? Glitch in the system. Will sit down with DH this weekend and get this resolved ::)

Can anyone clue me in on why it's called a "bucket" list? Maybe I should as google... :read:
