Hi again,
Thanks for the replies today -they were very helpful to me. I went down to Cartier and am now considering the 1895 round diamond ''simple'' setting (no pave or side stones).
The price I was quoted was $16,400 for a 1.21 G VS1 and a 15% off that $13900 or so. In comparison, Tiffany was:

1. 1.38 I VS2 $12,600

2. 1.24 I VS2 $10,400

No discount. Is it worth spending the extra $1,300 over the 1.38 Tiffany on a smaller ring? Cartier also showed me a 1.16 G VS2 for $14,750 with the same discount = $12,500.

Any more thoughts?

THANKS!

I read over your other post, and I don''t see where she has any idea about this ring, and therefore must not have a preference? So unless you think she''d really like the Cartier more, I would be inclined to say no.

Hi, I would say go the Tiffany as well if they are comparable styles. The Tiffany stones are beautiful, so I''d prefer the size over the brand personally.

For me, since the Cartier is G-color and the Tiffany stones are I-color, there are two main issues: size AND color, as well as the vendor difference (and price, of course). If I liked both style settings and had no vendor preference, then, I''d go with the larger, lower colored stone. I''m a size hound. However, some people have a preference for higher colored diamonds and may be happier with less size and higher color. I don''t see the difference between the VS1 and VS2 clarity being significant enough to worry about.

I may have missed it on the forum, but, do you know the face-up size for each of these diamonds? If concerned about diamond size relative to a finger, I''d be looking at each stone''s measurements in addition to weight.

However, at this point, these are all similar enough diamonds that if they are all in your budget, I would judge each diamond for what you see IRL... not necessarily what is on the paper, or what it will take out of your pocket.

Clear you mind of all the pricing, size and paper gobblety gook. Just LOOK at each diamond. When you hold each of these rings, which one "speaks" to you at first glance? Do you think about one diamond more than the others when you leave them behind? If so, get THAT one. Don''t worry about the stats, or what you may, or may not, be getting for your money. These are all quality diamond rings. Choose the most beautiful to you. I''m always amazed at how much personality an individual diamond can display...

Whichever ring you decide to purchase, I''m sure she will be overjoyed.

Thanks for the replies. I feel that the Cartier are the more beautiful rings. They claim that each setting is made by hand vs machine at Tiffany (according to Cartier, of course....). I will most likely, however, go with the larger Tiffany.

If you feel the Cartier are more beautiful than I think you should go for it. They are ALLreally nice sizes - I like higher color.

I definitely agree. Go with what you think is most beautiful. If it is Cartier, jump on it. There is not enough difference in size to pass up what you love most.
