The ring is so lovely. I hope these pictures help everyone so I can get a confirmation if you guys think it is a quality ring or not give the dimensions already provided

Last one -- So what does everyone think? Should I go for it?

I can see some arrows..., who is selling it? What other info do you have, carat, colour, clarity etc? I see considerable warmth from the side, but it is hard to tell with a pic. Is this the actual ring or a photoshop?

More Information:

That is actual ring - not photoshopped. I only know basic terms about the 4 c''s -- anything else is foreign to me...

This is a circa 1920''s diamond and platinum engagement ring. The Art Deco period ring is in excellent condition and shows no damage or signs of repair. The center, round, European cut 1.66CTS diamond measures 4.7 MM deep and has a 61.3% depth and 54% table, medium girdle, small culet and no florescence. It is absolutely stunning with modern proportions for maximum brilliance and is of K color and VVS clarity. The diamond is superbly cut, polished and proportioned. We see hundreds of diamonds every day. This is truly one of the most brilliant European cut diamonds we have seen in a long time. The diamond is set in a solid platinum mount with squared prongs and is accented by two (2) gorgeous tapered baguette side diamonds of H color and VVS clarity totaling .14CT. That makes the total in all natural, genuine, untreated diamonds 1.80CTS. The ring comes with a certified appraisal by a GIA graduate gemologist for $14,550.00.

Is it being sold on Ebay or an online vendor?

Lovely ring. To me, it looks like it has more color than one would expect from a K, but it''s hard to judge from photos.

I love tints of yellow, so I am certainly not opposed to that! I''d prefer M to be quite honest...

I think it''s beautiful, I love that setting.

It looks quite tinted to me for a K and I own a lower coloured stone than that which looks a lot whiter, although it is hard to judge properly from photos. Is this diamond being sold by a reputable online vendor? I would want to make sure the seller was legitimate, has a return policy and a good reputation before I purchased a ring from them. If you like the ring and want to buy it, ask if you can get an independant appraisal on the ring and make the sale final on it checking out. Make sure you are happy with the seller before proceeding.

If you like warmth in a diamond, this may be right up your alley. But I think there is a considerable difference in color between the center diamond and the side stones. That would bug me a bit. I would also want to make sure it really is a K and not lower so you are not overpaying.

HI:

I think the ring is stunning. But I agree with Lorelei and would have it independently appraised to make sure ithere are no hidden surprises.. Consider it added value.

cheers--Sharon

My concern would be the color, it appears yellow in some pics. Aside from that, it looks pretty :)

Do you know if that is the original setting? The head looks to be much different in color from the rest of the band. Also, the baguettes look to be larger than quoted....can they only be 7 points each?? And if so why do they look so large next to a 1.66 diamond. It is a beauty but I would think priced a little high for the color.

I'm not so sure that is an old cut...Hmmmmm, would have to see it in person but I agree with Lorelei that there are arrows there and that's indicative of a modern RB. My OEC/Transitional cut has some "spears" but they aren't visible all at once and they are definitely not arrows...And I've got the very chunky faceting and I'm not seeing chunky faceting in those photos. Perhaps it's the photos? What's the seller's return policy? As I said on the other thread last night, having a "GIA Gemologist's appraisal" is NOT the same thing as a GIA cert so you'd still need to get it appraised independently. Also, I think the $14.5k value is way over valued for the grading they've given you. That's just based on my ering and what other similar erings are going for. Just my opinion though.

ETA: Ultimately, if you love it, get it...I just want you to be sure you know what you're really getting...

ETA2: My appraiser said that it's not uncommon for Deco settings to have side stones that don't match the center stone because many center stones are a bit older and were re-set in the Deco era and they started using pre-made settings that came with the side stones already in the setting so it's not uncommon for the sides to be whiter in color grading. For my ering, the center stone is an I color, but the side stones are all F/G and you dont really notice th difference.

I am also concerned about the color, and at the price you are paying, it would definitely be worth getting an independent appraisal. Be sure you can return it for a full refund if it is not satisfactory.

Okay, first of all...it''s a very pretty ring. I am a huge believer that diamonds are personal, and if it''s your ring--then your opinion matters most of all.

Now, with that said...I agree with the other ladies on the issue of color. It is a very, very warm diamond and looking at other stones in the in the H-I-J color range, that K seems way, way off. A lot of people on this site are comfortable giving on color or clarity to stretch their budget for a bigger stone, and if you love rich warm diamonds, then it''s a very ring.

I would absolutely do more research before purchasing just to double check yourself. Why are you in a rush to buy anyways?

I''m rather skeptical that it''s an older cut, but I''m no pro either so it would be interesting to find out that a Transitional could look like that.

Seconded. REALLY doesn''t look like an OEC to me, and looks much more like a RB than even surfgirl''s transitional cut. Personally, I think you can do better if you are really looking for an old-style cut.

I was going to say the same thing about the arrows, it doesn''t really look like an older cut to me. I don''t mind a bit of warmth, but this one does show quite a bit in certain pictures. I agree that I would have it appraised and only purchase if there is a good return policy...you just never know. I am curious as to where this is from as well.

If we knew the vendor, that might help. I''m certainly not going to go and buy it out from under you! There are several online vendors who specialize in OEC diamonds and vintage jewelry. That is why I ask. Vendors like Single Stone in L.A.
