I could weep. I don''t know whether it''s an overreaction, or just frustration that I can''t seem to find a setter that I would trust to do the trap/baguette halo design.

Here is this drop-dead gorgeous asscher( please forgive the exaggeration) just crying to be shown off and instead it''s probably in a plastic bag in the safe. While there are lots of setters who do a wonderful melee halo, those who could do a great step cut halo seem to be non-existant, or willing to set only the diamonds they sell.

Help, anyone????

I"m no help, doll, but just wanted to reassure you that it is NO EXAGGERATION to describe that heavenly stone as "drop-dead gorgeous." It is!!

It will come together!!!!

Hope I dont get in trouble for this but....

I sent Jon an email with an idea, contact him tomorrow and ask him about the idea storm emailed to him.

That asscher is "drop-dead gorgeous." its one of the best iv seen here so its not an exaggeration.

Thanks blueroses and Storm.....You can bet I''ll follow up on your suggestion, Storm. Thanks a million.

I agree that you do have one AMAZING asscher. I also understand how you feel about not being able to find someone to make the setting you want. I also would be very interested to hear storms idea. Have you looked at any other settings that you might like as a RHR. Icemine posted this Leon that I think is fabulous as well.

Thanks, mrssalvo...I have that design stored in my picture file too. It''s a beauty, but I think I''d need a bigger centre than a 2c. to pull off the look of a RHR on a size 8 finger. A larger asscher is out of the question right now.

Oh that''s a bummer, but I do understand. The custom route isn''t for everyone. I think this asscher has to be the nicest one I have seen in a very long time.

I can understand your frustration, isaku! Custom can be a nightmare if the jeweler doesn''t produce what you want so it is good that you are not just rushing into the first option that comes your way. That said, I wish you could find someone to make your vision a reality! I hope this works out soon...you do have yourself a drop dead gorgeous asscher there.

HI:

I am sorry for your difficulty, yes it can be very trying. I don''t know what to say other than I was very happy with the recent custom work David Keeling did for me--he in another city and all. I don''t know what avenues you''ve been down with setting your beautiful stone, but keep your chin up!!

cheers--Sharon

Thanks kaleigh, FireGoddess and canuk-girl......I''m very greatful that Storm found the gorgeous asscher and that I am lucky enough to own it (even though I haven''t seen it in person). The setting will be a work in progress for now although I''ll be interested in what Storm suggested to Jon. Hopefully, I''ll find out tomorrow.

*hugs*

I hope the setting design issues resolve itself soon!

I have put my asscher on hold for now, but I have another project in the works which I''ll share soon!

I understand your frustration! Yes, you do have the most beautiful Asscher I have ever seen
emlove.gif
... and I can just imagine how hard it is for you to be so patient and wait for your dream diamond to be set.

If I do say so myself ... I am sure Storm has a great idea

! And, I am sure that Jon will give his valuable input on Storms idea

Hang in there, I know it''s difficult, Thinking positive thoughts and wishing a wonderful outcome for you and your Gorgeous diamond!

Isaku,

I'm sorry for your frustration. I've been following your journey and I feel for you. I'm from Canada too, so I remember all the stuff I went through and what a frustration it was!

I didn't read every single post, but have you tried to have Leon Mege? He loves step cuts. He's the one that did Lovey's ring, and my ring. I know it looks like he only does pave/halo, but he did this really nice bagette setting for I think Capitol Bill?? It was a modern style setting and quite beautiful.

Good luck!

have you considered a temporary setting?

Thanks to Mrs Darlin Joy, ally, and ladykemma.

I''ll be interested to hear the idea that Storm proposed to Jon and will give him a call today.

Ally, where in Canada do you live?
36.gif
Thanks for the Leon suggestion; I certainly wouldn''t question his capability, but wonder, after reading about his temperament on PS whether he and I could take turns being boss

ladykemma, I did that very thing with my princess e-rng, but the setting for that one was very traditional (trillions), but VERY expensive because I hadn''t bought the diamond there.
They did a beautiful job though. It took a long time to source the ideal pair of trillions to match the centre and twice as long to make the setting.

If I did the temp setting again, I doubt that I''d have great luck finding someone near Toronto do the permanent one well. However, it may come to that.

I'm sorry taking some time off didn't help.

Here are my thoughts.

As you know I've been looking at baguette halos for years. And in that time I've seen quite a few vintage and antique ones (like the one in my AV). These were set without benifit of CAD imaging software and many of the tools jewelers now have available to them. And yes, some of them aren't crisp and well matched... but some of them are. This is the thought that has made me become comfortable with the thought of having a jeweler attempt this setting for me. I knew, after talking with Leon that I probably would not be able to find a jeweler who had done this before (and if you look at the baguette halo earrings of Leon's that I've posted they aren't perfectly excecuted at all, which is why I think he won't do them again) at a price I could afford.

So...I decided that I would look for a jeweler with whom I clicked, who would listen to me, and would remake the setting, if need be. True I took a very long and twisted road to settle on a jeweler, but for me, personally, I clicked with Pete and feel comfortable with HIM. You didn't have that experience with him, from what I've read. I actually liked the fact that he was going to look for baguettes with Flourescence to match your asscher, and I liked the fact that they remade (ETA:) Mssalvo's old (Chrono's new) a couple of times before they were satisfied. And I really trust what Kaleigh has said about them.

So for me, it was a combination of the vintage settings (particularly the one in my AV which was made in the 1920's and IS perfect, the things' I've heard about Quest on here from people I trust, and my 'click' with him. If I wanted to overthink this, I could. And have, which is why I interviewed a 1001 jewelers. But once I sat down and thought about the choice was clear for me. And honestly, there comes a time when you have to let go and trust your instincts.

Now, you unfortunately are not in the same boat I was in terms of 'click' with Pete... or if you did click with him-- it's not enough to make you feel comfortable. And your instincts are, from what I am understanding, screaming for someone who has done this before and well, with the exception of Leon (and like I said his excecution isn't flawless-- wonder if he used a CAD)-- and his temperment (don't think he'd re-do it twice if you weren't happy) there isn't anyone except Icestore (did you contact them and beg for mercy?) and they many not make an exception.

So, honey... if the Daniel K option is on the table still-- regardless of the unscrupulous vendor talk and your gorgeous asscher. It might be best if you just went with the Daniel K. (Although... it might be worth it to call Bill Pearlman about the Daniel K and have him make a special, one time only request of Daniel K to use your asscher instead of thiers). Because well, that asscher-- while not as nice as this one-- was still very beautiful.

Whoops forgot the Leon photo.

Maybe I missed this, but have you talked to Mark Morrell?

Just for the heck of it... here is the Ring from my AV.. made in 1920''s. Wonder where Daniel K got his inspiration, huh?

I agree. bill mentioned in the other thread that it has happened, even very rarely that DK will set someone's stone. I would at least enquire about it futher. Wouldn't that be the absolute best of both worlds? Your gorgeous stone and the DK setting?

Wow, Gypsy...thanks for posting that! I''ve been drooling over your avatar forever... even though it was teeny!

Isn''t that sapphire ring amazing?? Where did you see it?

widget

PS: btw...Chrono''s new ring wasn''t mine. It was Mrs Salvo''s, maybe? Ack! Can''t remember!

Sorry widget! Mssalvo's... I thought you were the golden and she was the husky. Oops! (boy... did that come out wonky)

As for the ring... here... (and feel free to look around this vendor has some SERIOUSLY STUNNING pieces, though if you buy anything... I'd better get dibs on seeing it in real life...lol)

Are you SURE it's a real antique ring & not a repro? I didn't see the bit about "1920" on its ad anywhere -- did you inquire about it further?

Just curious -- 'cause if it IS a repro ... I wonder if they'd be an option for makin' custom halos -- or know who would ...

ETA: for instance this link says they also specialize in "making modern jewelry" and that's next to rings & halos that look just like the sapphire one in your avatar ...??

I had the same thought Deco. I do recall inquiring about the information when Ana first showed me the setting... but as I don't have the email anymore I thought to confirm-- already sent a note off. I am fairly sure it's really a deco piece but if it's not... that would be great for Isaku because I will drag the info out of them kicking and screaming...lol.

Will update when I hear a response.

ETA: That seller doesn't generally list the age of thier items BTW.

HAPPY DANCE HAPPY DANCE!!!

I must have gotten that ring confused with another one!!!
